I wouldn't advise doing it alone - especially in this heat and since it's your first time. Suggest you build up to such distances slowly and in better weather.

I you do decide to go, remember to hydrate - at least a litre of water every 90 mins. Carry Electral and Glucose too. Avoid soft drinks and caffeinated beverages.

              Ride Safe!

I'm back from Rameshwaram only 2 weekends ago; it simply is not worth visiting just for 2 days; have atleast 4 days in hands. 2 days for journey; 1.5 day for site seeing, 0.5 day to cool off.

And, having gone to that far extreme, do not miss to take the Rameshwaram-Keezhakarai-Tuticorin road, you'll love it.

                • Aargee, what awesome pictures you have posted in your travelogue ....I had been to most places in train or in a car,and Like you said the pictures can not do justice to the actual scenery ....I still remember my waiting at Vanchi Maniyachi station in early morning, and seeing the train coaches swaying to the wind(meter gauge),or going from Ernakulam to TVM in early morning in rain/winter season in train with windows open, enjoying the back water scenario, going for a evening walk in Ayirkudi near Thenkasi ,with fields on either side of road, and Pea cocks casually crossing the road, riding from this place to Achankoil during rainy season, crossing many small mountain streams cutting across the road.etc.,
I am Happy you have enjoyed your moments ,which will remain forever with you,....and thanks for sharing the beautiful Pictures.

                  • ^^^ Felt like I got 6* for my T'Log Yes, there were peacocks, not one, but like a gang of crows I wanted to stop & take pics, but, I just kept moving & besides I don't have patience with birds especially; they tend to show off too much when you point a camera at them Now you must be knowing this better

2 days for 1070 kms ride ? did I heard it right ? So is it like - ride all day and sleep at night and then ride all day again.
I wish you take another 2 days in hand for exploring the places and taking proper rest. If I were you, I won't make any plan in this hot summer. Its unforgiving for bike rides and ride will be more painful then delight. Rest all your choice end of the day, that was my 2 cents . But as Sunil mentioned already, keep as much water and re hydrating drinks as you can - you will need a lot of them at this time on south India Roads !!!
                      All the very best !!!

                          • Somehow didn't feel like staying home after 5pm today. And the daily power cut kicking in made me gear up and hit the road. Did the Chennai-Tindivanam-Pondicherry-Chennai circuit. The weather was wonderful on the way back with the coastal breeze cooling me down well. The stretch between Tindivanam to Pondicherry is all close as it can get with the nece road from Bangalore. All in all, it was a good day crouching and munching miles with the R15 V2. Low back exercise from the gym seems to work wonders coping up with the aggressive posture touring...
