Ever imagined riding a Super Moto against factory race bikes. Well yes! This guy named Yuri Barrigan did exactly the same thing in the last season of tourist trophy. On his quest to do something crazy and adventurous, he took his Yamaha YZ450 Super Moto single cylinder bike to Isle of Man TT and raced with Big boys.
Here is what he has to say in a conversation with Supermotoaustralia.com
“The reason I wanted to go to the Isle Of Man on a Super moto is because no one in history had ever attempted it.”
“The (IOM) organization over there told me in emails months before applying that not in a million years would a 450 cc single survive the week of qualifying let alone the race – nor did it have the speed on the straights necessary to make the cut off time…that really lit a fire under me.”
“I wanted to prove to myself I could do it. I qualified the bike in just my 3rd lap of the course with a 26:37.”
“I went on to best that on a 5th lap with a 26:14 averaging 86.9 mph with a recorded top speed on Sulby straight of 112.9!”
“You can see in the comments people saying a 450 is too slow etc, and that I didn’t win or place high in the order. That wasn’t the plan or the expectation…Just to QUALIFY and FINISH was!…”
“It was extremely difficult and I look forward to someone else stepping up and attempting to better my times. I ended up finishing 7th in Newcomer C.”
Will you ever try riding your Pulsar and karizma against those fully faired litre class beasts on Budhha International Circuit. Do let us know!
