Yamaha Motobot unveiled at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. Motobot is a robot capable of riding a motorcycle. It is designed to ride superbikes much like we would. From twisting the throttle to turning the motorcycle it does everything though this initial version travels slowly and needs training wheels to avoid tipping over in a turn. However, Yamaha hopes that one day this Motobot will beat nine time World Champion Valentino Rossi at what he does best.
Not that you’re going to see robots taking over racing leagues any time soon. Instead, Yamaha sees its robotic rider as a testbed for rider safety and support systems, both of which have to work well under punishing conditions.
On the other hand Honda has been working on the ASIMO robot for the last 15 years and it has just learned how to kick a soccer ball whereas Yamaha just showed how a complex task like riding a superbike can be achieved by its Motobot version 1.0 and time is not far when we will see Motobot blasting at more than 120MPH on a race track.
