I went to Shell - Brookefields, Blr and asked them to do full tank. To my surprise i was able to fill 9.68 lts. So my bike now has in all about 12.48 lts of petrol. Now how is this possible when bike has only 8 lts of capacity !
I verified on my way to office there was no overflowing of tank.

So either Shell, Brookefields is cheating by giving less of petrol for 1 ltr or Bajaj is wrong in measuring the bike tank capacity. Has anyone done full tank before and how much were you able to fill?? Please please please help.....
I don't think that the tank capacity is wrongly stated by Bajaj. It may not be exact 8 L, but 12.48 L is a lot more. BTW, when my bike goes to reserve (i.e., 2.5 L petrol remaining), I fill Rs. 250 worth petrol, i.e., 5.2 L and I could see all the bars in the fuel indicator. I believe that I could fill some more petrol but not till 12.48 L.

Ok, then next time I will check that by telling the bunk attendant to do tank full and see if the overall fuel in tank is indeed around 11.5 or 12 L. But, I don't understand, if the tank can hold more than 8 L, then how come my fuel indicator shows all the bars when there is approx. 7.7 L (including 2.5 L reserve) of petrol in tank.

i have tried it on my Yamaha gladiator...the actual capacity of the fuel tank is when the filling nose is inside the fuel tank but generally the bunk attenders bring that nose out a bit to accommodate bit of extra fuel....

The day i bought my bike, apart from the 1 litre tht bajaj put for me, i did a full tank. And the bike attendant filled in 12 litres! Even i was suprised as tank is 8+2.5ltrs!

Also I'v clocked 300kms and my petrol tank has just gone down abt 3 inches(maybe 2 or 3 litres) and fuel indicator still shows all bars. Its impossible to get that mileage..im sure my odometer's not wrong

its not that ODO is not working,,,its working properly but according to the 8lt. capacity...the 300kmz ride of your has just used the extra fuel that u have put in(12 lt.)...wait till the fuel reaches that 8 lt. mark n then check if the fuel indicator is giving proper response or not...

Thats a relief to know that Shell is not cheating me. I had so much faith in them.
OK, now if the tank capacity is about 12-12.5 lts why does bajaj claim it to be only 8 lts? Any ideas? I am going to shoot a mail to Bajaj in this regard.

will simplify it will an easy example...

when we purchase a cold-drink bottle its it completely filled up-till to the cap... its not...but does that mean company its cheating us by saying a liter bottle n not giving the same....

similar is the case for fuel tanks....company has to maintain some security standards...

in case of my bike company quotes 12lt where as i have fueled 13lt once....not tried that again...

The "Cheating" point was with respect to Shell station not Bajaj.

And even for Bajaj... why say 8 lts when bike holds 12 lts or more... I understand your bike taking in 13lts for 12 lts tank capacity but 12 lts for 8 lts capacity is just too much... And i dont understand the security part!! People do tank full at the time of fueling, not only bike, but any automobile... So, if doing tank full is a security thread automobiles companies should put that in bold letters that doing so can cause hazards.

Had my 1st servicing done today, and the bike seems to have slightly more vibration than prior to servicing. Also the SC guys have no clude about the BAJAJ 10000 DTSi Engine oil, they all are using Servo 20W40 in all the bikes.I opted for buying my oil myself . Wanteed motul but only MOBIL1 was avalaible in vicinity so settled for it.
