Red Bull KTM’s Toby Price won the 2016 Dakar Rally stage 9 with over seven minutes lead against the closest rival Honda’s Kevin Benavides. Stefan Svitko from KTM team finished 3rd. Toby Price retains the overall lead with Svitko at second followed by Rockstar Husqvarna’s Pablo Quintanilla at 3rd Place.
While Toby Price set a pace to claim his fifth stage victory, Honda rider Paulo Goncalves challenge for 2016 Dakar Rally victory has ended due to radiator problem. His bike can’t be repaired by his crew nor does he have access to spare parts to repair his bike. The rider in the previous stage managed to emerge unscathed from the crash.
In the face of the extreme heat, organizers elected to declare the stage results after the second checkpoint, despite the fact that some riders had yet to reach the first.
Stage 9 was the shortest of this season but brutal loop through the Fiambala dunes. The competitors faced added pressure of the temperature above 50 degrees Celsius which eventually forced the officials to cut it short.
Sherco TVS riders are no longer in top 10 standings now. Alain Duclos is at 15th and Joan Pedrero is at 16th place in the overall classification with the third teammate Florent Vaysaade at 30th place.
Alain Duclos finished the 9th stage at 24th place followed by Joan Pedrero at 28th and Florent Vaysaade at 29th place.
