Ducati recently were in talks with the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) for procuring 100 acres of land in the Greater Noida region for setting up of a plant!
TOI reported that Ducati India’s management met with senior officials of GNIDA to get 100 acres of land in the area for a manufacturing unit. GNIDA provided Ducati with the rate list and availability of land. Later this month, the Italian manufacturer will make a formal proposal. This probably being the first meeting, there will be some time before a decision will be arrived at.
This shows the interest that Ducati have in the Indian market. That they are ready to setup a manufacturing/ assembly plant in India. Last year Ducati had launched the Scrambler Sixty9, a 400cc Scrambler, though the company has shown no inclination of bringing that bike in India just yet. A move such as this, might make it possible for Ducati to manufacture and assemble bikes in India on the entry level of their range.
Currently Ducati makes a number of models in Thailand, would it be financially viable to setup another plant in India?
