News on 23rd Jan 2017:
Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali has confirmed that they have a plan for V4 superbike model for the customers. During the Ducati’s MotoGP racing motorcycle Desmosedici GP team launch event, he says, “The engine development we have made in MotoGP is exceptional. We have an engine which is very reliable, very light, compact and has a lot of interesting technology. We are seriously thinking of introducing it to regular customers because it is a masterpiece of engineering. Of course, translated into a something that can be sold for a reasonable, if not a premium price. So, it will not be a kind of exotic bike like the Desmosedici, but a more regular high-end sports bike.”
Ducati Sporting Director Paolo Ciabatti said, “For sure we will race with the Panigale for 2017 and 2018”. Currently WSBK sees Ducati using the Panigale R with Chaz Davies and Marco Melandri on board. That bike is a V-Twin 1198cc, but this new V4 superbike will have to be 1000cc to meet WSBK regulations. Since Ducati has already decided to use the Panigale till 2018, the earliest we can see this new V4 superbike will be in 2019. So expect the launch of the bike for 2018, since traditionally Ducati races their superbikes first in the superstock category, before moving up to the WSBK category.
