A new commute option has been launched in Gurgaon for Women – A two-wheeler taxi service called Bikxie Pink exclusively for women, and has only women riders. The service was officially started on 20th January 2016.
The Motor Vehicle Act does not have provision for bikes to be used as taxis. But after Haryana made amendments to its transport laws, introducing regulations for the use of two-wheelers for commercial purposes, many bike taxi services have started operating. These services are helping commuters fight the last mile problem – that is reaching the final destination from transportation hubs like railway stations, bus depots, metro stations, etc.
Bikxie began services few weeks back with Bikxie Blue (bikes with male rider) has now added Bikxie pink to its range.
The Bikxie service charges Rs.10 for first two kms and Rs.5 for every extra kilometer, which is cheap compared to other transport options in Gurgaon. Bikxie app also comes with SOS feature to ensure safety of the users. the service runs between 8am to pm and will take you anywhere in Gurgaon.
This is the first of its kind public transport service for women started by Divya Kalia and Mohit Sharma. They have plans to expand their services to Delhi and Bengaluru as and when the act is amended in these states.
