In light of recent terrorist attacks at various places in Europe, London Police is starting to use motorcycles for quick response time to tackle similar situations of crisis. The motorcycle being used is the latest version of BMW F800 GS. Due to its versatility as a decent off-roader and road motorcycle, the F800 GS is considered as an ideal motorcycle to go from one place to another in the shortest time possible which might include jumping over dividers and tackling bad roads.
Other than this, heavily armed policemen have been deployed across the streets of London equipped with pistols and semi-automatic SIG carbine rifles and they ride on the BMW’s said motorcycle.
According to Scotland Yard, 600 extra policemen will be there to “confront terrorists and prepared to deal with worst situations”. Another police officer noted, “Traffic can be gridlocked at the best of times. If you look at Europe, at Paris and Belgium, traffic becomes a major impingement on a rapid response. We’ve looked at tactics and pillion riding with motorcycles gives us a very fast and effective response. The guys practice riding off road so they can bump up and down across pavements and make really good progress from A to B.”
The F800 GS is powered by a parallel twin 798cc liquid cooled engine, fed by fuel injection and 6-speed gearbox. It churns out 85 BHP of power at 7,500 RPM and 83 NM of torque at 5,750 RPM. As for various safety features, it comes with BMW Motorrad’s ABS, Automatic stability Control (ASC) and Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA).
