KTM will introduce new range of motorcycles. The company is planning to re-launch its entire fleet of existing bikes by early 2017 which are proposed to be developed on new platforms and engines manufactured by Bajaj.
KTM CEO, Stefan Pierer, said,
“The company along with Bajaj would gradually phase out its existing fleet of 125cc, 200cc and 390cc KTM bikes by late 2016 and introduce an entirely new range built on new platforms. Investments would be jointly made with Bajaj.”
KTM has set itself a target of 200,000 units for CY2016, 20,000 more than CY2015 for global sales. Bajaj will raise production from 60,000 units in 2015 to 100,000 units to meet this target.
This move by KTM is not unexpected; they have already showed their 2016 RC390 at EICMA motor show, Milan, Italy. The updated 2016 RC390 has features like side slung exhaust and ride by wire. Also the 2017 emission norms are very tight and the RC’s new exhaust was required to create space to package the hardware needed to meet those regulations.
The new models will step-by-step replace the current models and by the end of 2017, all of KTM’s markets will be offering the new bikes manufactured jointly with Bajaj.
