WorldSBK rider & the former motoGP champion Nicky Hayden today passed away, succumbing to his injuries. He was hit by a car a few days ago while training on his bicycle in Italy. He was rushed to the hospital, where he remained in a very serious and critical state till now. He had sustained multiple severe injuries, including injury to his head.
The MotoGP Legend was training in Italy after the recently concluded Imola round of the WorldSBK season on his bicycle where he was hit by a car. He was taken to a local hospital but was later referred to the hospital in Cesena for better treatment. He had been in coma since.
Nicky Hayden was one of the most popular riders in the world of motorcycle racing, both among fans and fellow riders. His untimely and tragic demise has left the entire motorcycle community in a very sombre mood and a state of shock and disbelief.
Many of the MotoGP and WorldSBK riders spend a lot of time training on bicycles. The dangers of cycling on public roads is forever increasing, with drivers getting addicted to using their smart phones. Maverick Vinales said that he might give up road cycling after Hayden’s accident, a risk which every cyclist faces. Last week Tour de France winner Chris Froome was knocked off his bike by a car. He was lucky to have come out unscather. This is an increasing trend, especially in the western world.
Nicky’s death has left a big void in the world of motorcycle racing, which cannot be filled. We wish his family and friends strength to cope up with this loss.
