  • Saw the KTM 200 finally in Indiranagar,Bangalore .I sat on it to feel for sometime .They said test drives will start after 2 weeks. Took my no. and gave a KTM brouchure.

    My initial observations
1.It looks bigger than I thought . I actually think its heavier than 126kgs without fuel(as mentioned in brouchure) with saree-guard and lubricants.Tank looks biger than 11L.
2.Accessories used in this bike are quite exotic from the radial tyres, brembo disks, digi console/cockpit,trellis frame, thicker suspensions (really thick infact thicker than enfields I guess) which also means if you drop you may have to pay big like Ninja's.
3.Fit and finish of the bike LOOKS great but again looks can be deceptive.
    4.Rear looks the sexiest.

The salesman as ususal was blabbering its the fastest on road.He didnt clearly say anyhting on the rev-limiter,mileage or the petrol octane suggested.

    My Concerns:
1.Compression ratio of 11.5 - There have been issues with CR 10.x FI machines like R15 and CBR with adultered petrol. how will KTM handle it when we tour on remote places.
2.Ground clearance : I dont know if anybody noticed this or not. The suspensions dips quite a bit when 2 people sitting on it. I am speaking specially of the belly pan with stock settings and we living in the speed-breaker Mecca should be concerned.
3.Nothing concrete yet on Rev limiter as of yet from even the salesman and so the topspeed.
4.Rear seat is too high and small in size for ladies but better than R15.
5.Sound transforms totally after 4-5k rpm and shows it true street hooliganisms.

    Some Facts:
Brakes have 4 piston in-front and 1 in back
Engine oil used is Motul 20W50
Tank capacity is 11L (not 10)

P.S. the KTM brouchure has 4 more bikes infront KTM 350 SX-F,990 Adventure,1190 RC8,690 SMC R. Are they hinting something else why these 4 ??

On paper its supposed to have the same weight as my R15 but the weight does seem heavier.
CR is not an issue as per my experience. I have been running my bigger blocks on my R15 for 2 years and never faced an issue.
The rear suspension is adjustible. If i recall correctly, in the showroom bike had the suspension setting just a couple of nudges from the softest.
I too am not sure of the rev limiter.. someone mentioned in this thread that its between 11 and 11.5(depends on the gear)
Never heard the sound in person.
PM me for Daytona Racing ECU for the R15

Yesterday i was in vashi and managed a td of ka200m.it reminded me of my uncle's rx100.totally wild acceleration.and the way it handles is absolutely brilliant.and very throaty roar.when enquired abt fe, the guy told me saab 35 tak deti hai.managed to fiddle around the console and the fe was 24kmpl.well, for a td bike, who is thrashed by one and all, fe seemed quite good to me.in sedated driving it could return 35.but who is gonna drive a ktm like thT?all in all i loved the bike and definately going to book one in few days

                Hi Ynike99 ,

How is the low end torque of the bike, how it responds at 3K to 5K RPM.
did u get a chance to take the bike to bit higher speeds, was there any vibrations.??

Its available now. I just had one . But there ain't any fun in the TD considering the Pune Traffic near the PB showroom. Few points to be noted -
                        1. They have cut off the sensors which gives the figure of speed & all other stuff, Hence you cant gauge exactly but only feel the speed.
                        2. Horn is pretty lame. Instead u can rev it and others will give you way
                        3. Engine was radiating too much heat. It may be because of the fact that people are revving it hard in standstill.
                        4. You will surely get stares & overtaking in the traffic has never been so easy!
                        5. I could not get in 5th gear (Not sure of my top speed). Bike has the ability of picking up normally from 10 km/hr even in 3rd gear.

                          Hi chetan,
The low end torque is good and no i didnt get a chance to test vibes at high speed bcoz the td is very short, 500m one way and back.i managed till 80 and it was good.but trust me, this is the most fun to drive bike out there now

Thats something assuring me to book the bike with out a TD.!! i dont know why bangalore is late in every aspect. hope that same will not continue in delivering the bikes.
                            @ ynike : Did u book the bike ?

KTM Duke 200 is getting tremendous response across the country. There are only 15 days have passed since Duke 200 is launched on 24th January 2012, but KTM showrooms (Erstwhile Probiking showrooms) are flooded with inquiries. The company initially decided the booking amount of Rs. 30,000 but it was reduced to Rs. 20,000 when Duke 200 hit the showrooms. The booking amount was reduced to encourage more buyers.

The company is also charging Rs. 3,000 as cancellation charges if the booking is canceled, to avoid speculative bookings and timely delivery for genuine buyers. The waiting period is ranging from 30-90 days depending on the location of showrooms. The delivery is expected to start within 2-3 weeks time. KTM Duke 200 is the third motorcycle which is seeing such an encouraging response from the buyers after Honda CBR250R and Yahama R15 V2.0.
Duke 200 is the first offering from Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM which comes with 200cc engine and power of 25 bhp. It would be easy for Duke 200 to start with 2,000 units a month which is very good figure, considering its price. It seems that KTM Duke 200 may outscore competition in terms of bookings. However, it is to be seen how it performs in longer run against the competition.
