Hi..
Buying a first bike always is a special moment in ones life.. and Duke is verry verry good bike. On the other hand Gixxer though newly launched is getting rave reviews .. Suzuki after all!
If ur looking for power and some style .. y dont u have look at Honda Cb Unicorn trigger also??it has tthree variants. And economically returns much bwttr then both duke and the Gixxer...

Best of luck

On a lighter note few other things you might want to think about, would you ever need a liquid cooled engine (would you go on non stop ride of some 500km), would you need a top end peak power and torque (would you usually ride on top speed more than 120kmph). As a beginner important things for you is comfort and more practical bike in my perspective.

isnt duke 200 a beginner's bike? for this long i thought it would be the best bike for the city. btw how is the gearing in gixxer? is it necessary to frequently change gears like the duke? and do you mean comfort as in maintaining the bike easy and the gearing and all that? or just seating and body ergonomics? all my friends bought duke 200 as beginners. they only complain about the labour and care needed in everyday maintenance of the bike.

since u have not quoted my message, i presume u r referring to mine. i do not want any other confusion as i have listed these two bikes strictly. now the confusion lies only in choosing the one from these two. thanks

Gixxer doesn't need frequent gear changing at all and the reason is Suzuki's decision of giving 5 gears instead of more common 6. I could easily pick up speed from below 30 kmph as well in 5th gear. Throttle response is very crisp even at that low speed in 5th gear. So I think it's much more suited for city riding.
By comfort I meant the seating posture, seat height and gearing.
Duke is a good bike for sure but yes it needs maintenance for all the extra things that we get compared to simple bikes like gixxer. Just reiterating the points discussed earlier between us. Dukes seat height is among highest for Indian bikes, cost of owning and riding definitely high relative to gixxer. My test ride imbalance on ns 200 with pillion and long ride of Bangalore to goa and back in other bikes convinced me that I would never need liquid cooled engine. Nor I would do top speed of more than 120kmph though I am a harsh rider.
Trust me even now I fancy higher cc bikes but I choose a practical option and when am riding gixxer I never felt disappointed. So make the right decision for you and don't look back.

hello,

i planned to get my first bike and short listed on gixxer as one of the options. the reason is being the build quality of the suzuki's engine and its reliability. i learnt to ride on a suzuki max 100 bike. its was made almost 2 decades ago. its engine is super smooth despite the poor service it had. i once did a 40 km run to the nearest highway and it with only 4 gears and being a beginner i was feeling very comfortable and smooth doing 70kmph. beyond which i couldnt control the handle.

but with these techno updates and new tech engine, i think its the best suzuki bike in the country in 150cc segment. i am also considering ktm 200 duke. i dont know why you want to ride 150cc after riding 220cc. why less power with an upgrade?

This!!

Honestly, if the only reason you are stalling on the gixxer is gearing, you can rest easy! This bike just pulls!
Usually pulling from higher gears results in the bike kicking, but this engine just has so much grunt in the lower ranges, and the beautiful sound it produces, that you can just coast in 3rd or 4th gears. And its just soo stable through the entire rev range.
And yes, shrinidhi is right. This baby just pulls all the down from 30 to beyond in 5th no problem. The only issue i have is run-in! I just cant wait to get done with 1st service!

Also, of note, some have disagreed though...the play on the front brake lever is just about right, you can lean on the front brakes quite steadily with no hassles.

Honestly, if you get the gixxer, two things are guaranteed. Fun riding for sure...and quite practical efficiency figures. Its a no-brainer.

Which is best engine oil for Suzuki gixxer. Mine is clocked 7000kms. Recently changed the oil to shell AX7 semi synthetic from mineral oil of motul. I'm not happy with the performance. So suggest good engine oil for city use as well as long ride.

I would like to thank The Monk for the wonderful review. Reason is that i googled for Gixxer reviews and came upon xbhp. That is when i joined the forum and ultimately helped me decide my purchase.

You have received the manual, please be patient enough to go through the manual, as it clearly mentions how to run-in/breakin the new engine.

Cheers,

I own a black gixxer from 5 months. After the second service i've witnessed noticeable changes in my bike. Self start bugs me alot and i no longer hear that awesome bassy sound when riding, when i put forth all these issues to SVC they say my bike is alright as if they don't want to pay heed to my issues.

Any suggestions on good looking fibre engine guard to make it look more sportier??
