according to me I dont think that this bike will top the sales charts like the pulsar or cbz xtreme because the majority of the indian market runs on an equal combination of pricing milage and decent power pricing a 150cc bike close to a 200cc bike which offers better performance and equivalent milage only because of the bikes styling is some thing that does I dont think will go down well.the pulsars being great VFM and xtreemes & uni's being refined and reliable and the apaches being great handlers all vie for a slice of the 150cc pie, pricing a 150cc without any exeptional technology much higher than the competition is something I dont think is a good decisionOriginally posted by anvancy View PostTwo things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe

Wat you say is something acceptableOriginally posted by Andy-) View Postaccording to me I dont think that this bike will top the sales charts like the pulsar or cbz xtreme because the majority of the indian market runs on an equal combination of pricing milage and decent power pricing a 150cc bike close to a 200cc bike which offers better performance and equivalent milage only because of the bikes styling is some thing that does I dont think will go down well.the pulsars being great VFM and xtreemes & uni's being refined and reliable and the apaches being great handlers all vie for a slice of the 150cc pie, pricing a 150cc without any exeptional technology much higher than the competition is something I dont think is a good decision
But there has to be a Oustander - right
Yamaha is known for its Excellent Prformance bikes and they do so the same
All the current 150cc segments lies on Commuting and streetracing only
Yamaha the only manufacturer thought of bringing an 150cc bike in track Racing Technology (R-1-5)
So the same style naked looks and beafy bike are things made for only Bullets and Higher cc engines
But for the first time an 150cc bike comes in a beafy look for India
So they are trying to implement things better
Yamaha has learned the trick how to attract the remaining customers
Who can spare more money to buy a Good machine
They are trying to change the rules - Both in Tracks and Streets
Which Honda and Suzuki failed to do
Both concentrating only on the commuter segments
And TVS and Bajaj going in thier own ways

There is only one way to find out which approach works for the Indian market I guess we should wait for a couple of months and see weather the rewamped extremes and unicorns or the stylish fz16 with its slighty heavier price tag can generate more customers
I guess only time will tell......Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe

Not only speedo console, the switch gear and the levers are not upto the standards. They've compromised on these things I guess to keep the price down.Originally posted by KwokFist View PostThe bike looks great overall.. but somehow the speedo console looks cheap!.. love the bike though.. should be a fun bike to ride.

that day i was thinking..is the normal person thinking the cc number as a status??....(not including superbikes here..)what i was thinking..is he always utilising that 200cc mark??are we/he always on that 7-10k rpm mark in each gear??zooming by??atleast a sane normal motorcycle enthusiast will think half of the time that he is not racing but commuting.yes the torque curve, the shifts, the timing..all taken consideration...but this bike according to me will not be behaving like a cycle can easily pass you while you are struggling to race up the 60 mark.
now when a company that had gone a big zero in the indian market did their homework neat and tidy and came up with two indian specific products out of which one is a very good potential thing..ie this.right when 220 was projected for launch..everybody asked for monoshocks..everybody asked for a higher cc engine..this and that..well the 220 made a different platform..
but when you see this the average salary of prospective buyers (excluding those who are affected by the sub prime crisis)they will see this bike as an option also in front of those oldies..yes pulsars unicorns stunners have an old platform.but when he will be buying..he wil also think that hey i am not going to drag my bike with a pulsar all the time..i want something new..in that segment this bike fits beautifully..fresh maal.even if its cost is on the higher side.many will say brand cost..but what may be the actual production costs have gone high??still they are providing a fresh product..and that too special for indian market..not mass ofcourse..but consider this..in that grand prix edition unicorn age old 2001 pulsar revamp same honda engine stunner cartoonish cbz and a relatively neat and nice RTR this 150 segment bike is worth thinking..you get a fresh new product.not a revamp with new paint and stickers.
so in that sense unlike jumping steps and then come crashing down and tumbling down yamaha is taking small baby steps...but firm ones...
and again for those wanting to "show off" by purchasing this bike well many will say this is a bad decision...since the mindset of many still will be "arey isse aacha to pulsar unicorn etc...150 ke liye itne paise kyu??pulsar bhi ise haraygi!" that will be a total disaster..and this is the old mindset that yamaha wants to change.
my 2p again.

EDIT: i also know that many will not agree with what i am saying..but its just looking at it from a different angle..nothing else..Last edited by anvancy; 09-29-2008, 11:54 PM.there are no stupid questions.
but there are stupid people.

rite said avancy. quoting my collegues words:
' wow... kya ishtylist bike hai yaar!'
'150cc... baaaassss... isse accha to pulsar lena hai. itna hi daam ka aata hai aur powerfool hai na?!'
... the voice of say 75% of people (commuters)?
but i keep my finger crossed... yam is making a difference here in Indian market. wishing all goes well... yo yammy...

i seriously don't understnad one thing. First we keep on asking for few things and then when we actually get them we start finding Negatives in that product..
I seriously feel that the FZ1 is way ahead of other 150's that we have. I'm a die hard Honda fan but i'm a practical person as well. And i can clearly see that it's only yamaha who has given us a exciting bike. and that too not one but 2.
Apart from Yamaha and TVS who gae us RTR Fi, how many other makers are giving us actually a new bikes???
Same unicorn engines in 4 bikes, Pulsar with few upgraded every now and then
we have been asking for masculine, Naked bike with broad tyres, mono suspension, beafy front forks, digital speedo(India first with digital techo) and decent power. at the end of the day how many time do we actually drag or hit the highway?? And how many time do we actually note the timings of 0-60?
What we have here is awesome product . No Doubt.

@sumit: ok i guess we can do with those... but overall the bike does look great. have been told by a good friend who's a journo that this bike is a stunters delight!
@avancy: good words there man!
And pulsar has been revamped too many times and we need new bikes! And there are too many pulsars on the road as it is with too many variants.... I hope bajaj comes out with something exciting soon! .Last edited by KwokFist; 09-30-2008, 11:26 AM.--------------------------------

Right bikes, Wrong time
First with the R15 and now with the FZ16, Yamaha makes me wonder why they didnt release these beauts a few years ago when I was bought my Pulsar. If only I had a blue R15 & a red FZ16 in my garage. Heaven. Yamaha please dont stop. Give us more. Please.
Bajaj - no more Platina 135s and Discover 145s. We (being a Bajaj loyalist) need a new flagship bike. ASAP. Hero Honda errrr keep restickering and making new ads.
