That point about the terrorists negotiating with the government is irrelevant. Look at the past. When have the Chechens 'successfully' negotiated with the Russians? Never.
Russians special forces have always been known to be ruthless. And the Chechens had explosives strapped to their bodies.
I am not defending the brutal decision of the Russians but I am saying that things could have been worse if they hadnt made the breach.

All this is quite far from what this thread is about.
Let's salute those who died and make sure we remember our heroes forever.
Most of us,including me,have set their aim on becoming engineers or doctors or lawyers.
I changed mine today,I will be giving the ICS exams as soon as I clear my graduation.
That was my point. Russians won't give in and the Chechens know that. The fidayeen's attack was different as they weren't here to strike a deal even though we have showed in the past to accede to their demands. Remember IC 814? In such a situation the military did a good job even though it took 3 days. NSG mentioned most of the hostages were killed before they came into the picture.

And great to know about your change in the choice of your career. I had tried to give the UPSC exam to get into NDA but i was over the age limit.

    • People are fired up everywhere including in this thread Shivraj Patil resigned but is that what we want? Absolutely not! Collective strength of the people can affect even those Cabinet ministers. If that strength is focused in putting someone educated, precise and steadfast to a position of power, changes will come swift and fast.

But one big question comes to the fore now. Who is going to take the initiative? Who has that kind of following in the country that people will stand with him/her?

      • Just came across this piece of news. After the terror strike at Mumbai, this was all but expected.

India named among 20 most dangerous places to visit
LONDON: The three-day long terror strike in its financial capital Mumbai has pushed India to be among the 20 most dangerous places to visit on
Earth, a British report has said.

Listing India among the world's 20 most dangerous places after the Mumbai terror strike that claimed close to 200 lives, UK daily The Telegraph said in an online report that the British government was currently advising against all, but essential, travel to Mumbai.

India has been listed along side places like Pakistan, Iraq, Afghanistan, Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Mexico, Thailand and South Africa in this list.

Chechnya, Jamaica, Sudan, Colombia, Haiti, Eritrea, Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia, Burundi, Nigeria, Zimbabwe and Lebanon have also been named among the 20 "most dangerous places to visit on Earth."

Writing on India, the report said, "Although the Foreign Office is currently advising against all but essential travel to Mumbai, most of the rest of the country is considered safe.

Exceptions include the rural areas of Jammu, Kashmir (other than Ladakh) and the border area with Pakistan. There remains a high threat from terrorism throughout India."

Meanwhile, pointing out that there is a high threat of terrorism and sectarian violence throughout Pakistan, The Telegraph said, "... there are regular suicide bombings and attacks on positions of authority and locations frequented by foreign nationals in September this year a major explosion destroyed the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad, killing more than 50 people and injuring more than 250."

Noting that security situation in Iraq remains "highly volatile," the daily said that there is a continuing high threat of terrorism throughout the country, including the threat of kidnapping of foreign nationals.

The Telegraph has said that Afghanistan has a high threat of terrorism, with a strong risk of kidnap, violent crime and suicide attacks across the country.

"The Foreign Office website strongly advises against all but essential travel to Kabul, adding that "no part of Afghanistan should be considered immune from violence and the potential exists throughout the country for hostile acts," it added.

On Sudan, the daily pointed out that the threat from indiscriminate terrorism is high in the country and that humanitarian situation "remains grim - more than two million people have been displaced by fighting in Darfur."

"Banditry is widespread in Darfur, especially in rural areas at night.

The Foreign Office advises against all travel to a number of areas, including the Eritrean border," The Telegraph said.

          • Let the world think what it wants to think. Including terrorism as a criteria is just bullshit when it can strike anywhere on earth. India is there thanks to Pakistan and Bangladesh.

            • BTW How many here think that this was the last of it?

There are so many questions un answered.... the terrorist said on day 1 that they were a team of 15 people... the operation led to killing 9 (or 10) and one captured live... where are the rest?

If all the people were busy at Taj and trident, who executed the Vile Parle bombing?
or did they go back from Vile Parle... (lolz people in Mumbai will know its impossible)

So were there two different teams? In any case where did the second team disappear?

Why did they carry so much of cards and stuff on them if it was a suicidal mission... as anyways the terrorists were told that they would be carried back to pak!
Were they meant to help the terrorists in disappearing and localizing...?

So there is a good chance that there are unwanted people still around, and we still lurk in danger, and the only way to help ourselves is to be vigilant and not panic!

              Cheers!

EDIT: My intention is not to start a conspiracy thread or something, neither do I want to spread panic, all I want to see is some amount of vigilance from all especially mumbaikars, who otherwise are ignorant about their responsibilities as a citizen...!

                            • He said that six or seven people had come to the joint, got something to eat, along with alcoholic beverages but refused to pay, saying in English they had no money (Nov 27). After getting drunk, they started firing at the people in the vicinity. If these were Lashkar-i-Taiba operatives or some other Muslim extremists, they would never have consumed liquor because Islam forbids that.
