Reminds me of a time when I was to go for a trackday on a Sunday. And the saturday evening before I went to my mech's place to collect his full leather racing suite.

Since I din't have a pillion to hold and it did not fit into my bag, I had to ride through crowded Chennai streets almost 15kms back home wearing the suit. Stopping at signals meant people rolling down their windows, some kids even taking pics from their phones what not.

Some people even sped up to catch up to see who & what is really on the bike...

Most of the expressions for the gear have already been given out here but i would never forget what i got for the balaclava. i was riding back from office and stopped at an atm center. was walking towards the atm and also removing my gear at the same time.
Removed my gloves, then helmet and was almost inside the atm with my balaclava on me and i saw the guard who stood up at my sight and i think i saw him trying to reach his rifle. i stopped at the very moment and removed the mask and moved towards the atm machine with my card in my hand all the time. As somebody stated before thank God i was not gunned down.

It used to bug me when people would stare as if I am a circus animal but I have stopped being self conscious now. After all the gazing apes wont be there to help you if you crash ..

An amusing thread! I invariably get the "are you trying to show off?" looks from co-riders, and some riders blip their throttle in a "you have the racer looks but I can go faster" stance...but never encountered anything unusual beyond this.
@nirvana, the balaclava incident was as hilarious as it was shocking!

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

I normally wear my Airoh helmet, Rjays swift jacket and gloves. There are varied reactions ranging from amusement, eye ball pop look, street urchins urging to race. Some seem to give an expression as if I am without my pants. I remember an aunty mistaking me for a terrorist..

I remember when i was going to my native place , i had to drive through series of villages. It was quite cold in that area and i stopped near a fire to gain some warmth . I was wearing offroad helmet, jacket and gloves . After a minute some small boys came near me and saw with horrid in their eyes , one of them mustered courage to speak up and said something in local dialect which translates to "Are you an alien, please dont kill our cows " . I removed helmet and showed myself . A hilarious incident it was which showed innocence of the kids.

Blank stare. That's it. One time a guy asked me if I'm on a long trip. And that too when I was wearing my gloves and balaclava. People around here see helmets as not a needed stuff while riding. Well, if you have an expensive looking bike they just don't bother. They assume the rider to be wealthy and think it's all in the game with big bikes and wealthy riders.

To day a man advised me that there is no need to wear helmet after 6 pm. He also said cops can't catch you for not wearing helmet after 6pm!!!!!!!!
                        I was speechless

ha ha ha..its a good thread.
no matter what when i ride i wear helmet ,gloves, riding jacket and woodland shoes. people see me as i landed from mars.
in delhi its hot in summers.so the most common question is ''dont you feel the heat''. I usually reply no now i m used to it now.
Also tell people that its meant for saving once A** in case of an accident.
My funda is In india tell people what riding gears are. Usually people are not aware of it. We are good advertisers..by observing me the kid next door has bought good pair of gloves.
my riding gears saved my life twice.
                          ride safe.

                            Great thread.
Well my first experience was to be made fun of. Friends from colg took my pic and posted it in the class group telling i had just come back from the moon. But it backfired cause i loved the attention i got there...lol.
On road people just stare you out. They stop their work and stare at you. That was the situation about 2 years back here. But now the number of people using jackets(not armored) has increased so it helps to an extend to reduce the stares down a lot.

                            Cheers
                            Ride safe

Re: How do people react seeing you Geared Up?

I'm laughing hard reading this thread. About a year ago, when I was learning to ride, I used to take my bike out in dawn to a nearby village road so I can practice riding when it was not crowded. After doing that for a week I started hearing rumors about people seeing ghosts. I was wearing a skull mask while riding and thanks to busted seals, my bike used to produce nasty blue smoke So there you have it, DIY Ghost Rider
                              I am back!
