  • ^I have done a lot of work inside the engine. Makes over 25bhp, in full street trim. Its a fully souped engine. 0-100 under 8 seconds.

Just to clarify, is this what we get with the 165cc kit, custom exhaust, ECU and other bits on sale right now? Or we need some more tweaks to achieve it?

(The "fully souped up" bit has me confused! )

So, it will be a personal comparison to satisfy oneself Nothing to write reviews about. Thats all I was trying to say.

When people say the S1000RR beats every other thing on two wheels, they're obviously referring to the factory stock bike
I am only being modest at this point in time. We'll see how fast the CBR250 really is when it's launched.

The CBR250 is far slower than the Ninja. So what are we talking about?
When pushed every engine has potential, but look at the costs involved. The R15 is the cheapest bike to build to get the max power.

        +10 Well said Joel!

And according to what I can understand from the CBR250R forums it's not a very fast bike. According to one owner it does 140kph speedo, maybe 150 if pushed hard. As far as I'm concerned I'll continue to build on my setup whenever feasible and see how far I can have it pushed with stock-like reliability.

        Update:

With some good tail wind I reckon, managed 131kph cruising sitting upright on a flat stretch of road, sea level and could hold it for over a kilometer. Usually its only 124-125kph. Quite impressed with the bike. Oil levels seem to be fine. Nothing else to report as of now. Waiting for my exhaust and filter to arrive. Will do the next round of testing then.

        • Looking at the posts here, I see a lot of R15's racing the CBR's as soon as they spot one just to prove a point ....

This is what even the Pulsar guys do as soon as they spot a R15

I wanted a CBR250R....until I heard about Joel's performance goodies for R15 :-D. Mahn its sooo tempting! I saw the India's fastest street spec R15 video and I have a ':-O' expression on my face! Loves the video so much that I straight away downloaded it in my cell from YouTube. I see it everyday, never get bored!

Now I want to buy a second-hand R15 and give it to Joel sir so that he can 'pimp' it :-D:-D

Me too interested, how much would a second hand one cost?

Anywhere between 65k to 90k, i guess. Depending on the condition of the bike. Although there are exceptions!

                • The cheapest way to go fast is buy a used R15 for around 75-80k, and invest a good 35k to get some serious power. Good enough to whoop a Ninja and CBR250 in whatever form. Nobody is gonna soup a ninja or CBR, so nothing to worry. A tuned R15 will still beat a mildly tuned CBR.

Don't get the wrong idea. Just because a few of us here are tuning up our R15s doesn't mean we're eagerly waiting to take on the CBR250 or Ninja on the streets. The discussions are for comparison sake and to understand how far one can push the setup beyond the existing benchmarks. So lets not get ahead of ourselves here.

+1 As soon as I finished upgrading, I am being 'invited' to so called 'night meets' where drag racing happens with winner takes all... the vultures have started circling... looks like they have a point to prove. Well, I don't have anything to prove... I do what I do for my satisfaction and not prove anything to anyone else... I don't race against Pulsars or Ninjas... and I certainly don't think I will race with CBRs...

Great control man. Trackdays are what I'm looking for, though the occasional ass-whooping of other bikes is gonna happen too

Are you talking about your 176cc tuned R15 only or any R15 with your regular mods??? Interesting..

Same here. I just enjoy riding the bike by myself.

Anyone has any good ideas for a camera mount for the R15?

                              • Final Update: Joel's FFE Replaces Stock Exhaust!

With addition of the exhaust the bike is slightly more free revving than before (far more free revving over stock) It has a strong low end to midrange and once it crosses 7K it continues to pulls strongly towards the rev limiter due to the peaky nature of the setup. It's very torquey and can chug along whole day in 6th gear provided that its around ~3K rpm or above it. The roll on in 6th from 3K Rpm to 9.8K-10K rpm is superb over stock.

The bike sounds loud now thanks to the megaphone exhaust and has a nice meaty roar to it and like abhimanyu31 puts it; it has soulful sound to it. It has complimented the overall setup and has made a big difference over the restrictive stock exhaust.

Bike cruises at Speedo 132+kph (goes even higher on downhills) easily while fully upright and does 143-147kph crouched with some tail wind on a fully flat stretch of road all this with plenty of chain slack which needs to be sorted. Bike is running lean, especially at night due to colder temperatures. Need the ECU and remap to sort it out. Fuel Efficiency remains excellent at this point.

Waiting for the ECU to be launched so I can go ahead with the next set of mods and Dyno the bike. Over 3000kms on the new setup over the past month and Oil and Coolant levels are fine, although there seemed to be a marginally acceptable dip. (need to check again). Simota air filter is with me but haven't installed it yet, will do it once the ECU is out and running on my bike. Enjoying every single ride on the bike now. Money well spent.

From an Indonesian heart on the bike to the Japanese one. A big thanks to Joel for all his hard work and dedication towards his R&D on the R15 and especially for making my R15 what it should've always been; Quicker, Faster and More Efficient. Kudos!

                                Cheers!
