It starts pulling cleanly without any drama. Wow, I am impressed. All that remains is to see how the engine will behave at 7k and up. Will it still pull like a maniac? As I think over this, suddenly my commute is over, as I reach the office gates. Damn! I have to finish the run-in soon.
One question: At 6th gear and at 40Kmph your tacho should be at around 3K rpm. 4K rpm you should be at 60kmph @ 6th gear. Or am i missing something ?

Even I was a bit confused about these values. Do not take these values to be that accurate. AFAIK, it is around 3.5k or so at 40kmph. The point I wanted to make is that the bike pulls cleanly from 40-45kmph in 6th gear.

      • I'm really really interested in knowing what bump you got in bhp, torque, 0-60 figure and top speed.

          • I had the same setup including the highlift cam. It reaches 10k in no time, and so I guess 0 -60 would be between 4 and 4.5 sec. I think its less than that. Anyways the days are over when you calculate 0-60. Its 0-100 now. Mine takes 10 - 11 sec to reach 100kmph. I plan to take the exhaust but I am backing off bcos of its loud noise. Still I am thinking on that. And about the ecu, I dont know what exatly it does. The only thing I know about it is that it can take the rpm to 12k. But it does not come to handy in city conditions. Even when you race the good shift would be between 8K and 9K. When do we go 12k.

Meghan mentioned that ecu has changed the entire character of the bike, but in what way??? I am curious to know that...

I don't have any plan to dyno the bike. So, I can only provide you the top speed once the run-in is done.

Bhp increase should be approx. 3+ bhp according to Joel.

I tried out the 6th gear, 40kmph thing today too. Now this time, my observations are accurate - 3k rpm, 40-45 kmph, and 4k rpm, 60kmph. And the bike potters around at 3k rpm, but will pull cleanly from around 3.5k rpm, that is around 45-50kmph. So, the 6th is totally usable inside the city too. Before, the 6th could be used only after 7k rpm or so - that is speed of around 80+kmph.

PS - These are the limits of the 6th gear, I do NOT ride around in 6th below 4k rpm.

Regarding the gear ratio, no. I am satisfied with the top speed this setup is going to provide. So, why sacrifice the acceleration?

I would say, just do it. Gains are visible in plain sight. The bike will transform into a different beast. Only 'downside' so to say is that, the ECU is needed to iron out that jerk issue.

ABhijeet-conrats for the mods,my doubt is how does the bike pull in 6th gear AFAIK its an overdrive, wont this damage the gearbox?

Thanks! See, above 3.5k or let us say 4k at max, it pulls effortlessly, there is no jerks, knocks, driveline vibrations or anything. It is just like the stock bike pulling in 6th easily at 7k rpm.

The bike actually feels a bit undergeared.

                        • The 6th gear is NOT an overdrive. Its very well sorted and works with the same spacing as other gears. Its an excellent box and Yamaha has done a brilliant job.

                          • Day 7 (3rd June '11, 120+ kms on the odo) -

The major difference is that the engine revs considerably freely now. The vibes have decreased further and its closer to stock levels. If these are signs of things to come, I am a very very happy man!

And yes, I am constantly searching for another gear these days!

Thanks Joel for the fantastic setup.

But the jerk thing at 2k-3k rpms bothers me bit in traffic. Need to do something about it in the long run.

                            • The stock ECU will get confused at low revs and hence the flat feel. Its not an issue if you stay away from 2k rpm. Once you finish run-in, you will be always above 6k
