    • Day 31 (27th June, '11, 500+ kms on the odo) -

Finally I have crossed the fabled 500 kms mark. So, how is the bike now? In 1 word - fantastic.

Let me elaborate. The monstrous (Yes, monstrous is the word to use when compared to stock!) mid end is as powerful as ever but is now smooth enough to be compared to a stock R15. The "pulses" of power feeling is almost gone. The top end has loosened up considerably but still has some more opening up to happen.

So how does it feel to ride? Picture this - I am in 2nd or 3rd gear, tacho is at 4k rpm, and I twist the throttle hard. The bike lunges forward linearly with alarming urgency and does not give up pushing till it comes near the 10k mark. Quickly shift into the next gear and the shove continues even though the intensity reduces a bit.

On days when I feel like enjoying the sights & smells of the road, I can cruise at around 80kmph with the tacho ticking lazily at 6k in 6th. Yes, 80 feels like the new 40!

The bike sprang a pleasant surprise on me at the fuel pump - the calculated mileage came to 39.x kmpl for the first 500 kms with the new bore. Whereas, my bike in stock condition, used to return around 32-34 kmpl consistently. I am sure, once the run-in completes, I will get 40+ kmpl.

So any cons? If it can be called so, here is one - the gain in mid end is much more compared to the gain in top end. Mind you, the engine is still as rev friendly as ever - just that one misses the mad rush from 7k rpm in the stock bike. Most probably, it is the the dull mid end makes that top end look that much more attractive on the stock bike. The engine builds power in a linear fashion now. Hint: the solution to getting the addicitive top end back is to get the camshaft + exhaust combo from Joel.

Secondly, the flat spot at 2k rpm does irritate me sometimes, even though I have gotten used to it.

And yes, the search for another gear after 6th continues!

It good to hear from you. The issue at 2k rpm disappears when you get the exhaust installed. As told you earlier I had the same issue and it disappeared after installing the exhaust.

What is top speed your reached with the new setup?

I have reached somewhere around 125kmph with the tacho hovering at around 8.5k rpm. This is with me sitting upright. Since the bike is still under run in, did not push further. But, the bike had plenty to give.

The difference compared to stock is evident - slot in 6th on the stock bike at around 7k rpm and twist the throttle. The tacho will not move beyond 8.5k or so. Only way to move beyond that is to redline the bike first in 5th gear.

But on this setup, I can slot into 6th at 6k rpm and twist the throttle. Even though the progress will not be very brisk, it will steadily pull toward the redline without any difficulty.

It is ok to drag once you have completed 500kms of runin. Redline at every gear and you get good top speed.

You are right abt the 6th gear. It does not pull much in low rpm and we all know that the 6th gear is not intended for that. It is good to use the 6th gear when you at 8.5k in 5th gear.

With the exhaust installed you can jump to 6th gear when you are between 5k and 6k rpm in 5th gear and you will not lose any power in 6th gear like in stock. Since you get noticebly good torque with the exhaust you can change the gears earlier and stay in top gears and so you get good mileage without losing any power.

Yamaha People informed that the engine got seized....
                      But i still trust joel

they told that the bore was not working or the oil circulation was not correct and that was the reason the clutch plate was gone.

the bike was not able to reach 50KMPH........

Some problem but i hope it gets fixed ......... i am very worried

Can you be a bit more precise?

Coz, Mine coincides with your scenario

Is you bike self starting? If yes, then you get a loud weird Kt Kt Kt sound with the regular engine note is that correct? and all these issues started only after opening the throttle at 6th gear over 8000RPM????

If you say yes to all the above. Then, I have real time experience with this issue, I can certainly guide you.

the sound is correct the same sound is coming.

when the Yamaha people the engine there where only saw 4 rings in the clutch and service person said they should have 5.

                            • suddenly the bike started giving white smoke and the bike started to give a sound tak tak tak and the bike was in 6th gear and the speed fell down to 50 kmph and the rpm automatically goes up and down and the speed was not increasing
