I have Joeled R15(Big bore+ FFE + other goodies except ECU) and recently got the PUC certificate(well within allowed range). Here is the difference in readings of CO and HC values between Stock bike and Joeled one.

    Stock
    Regulation Actual Reading
    CO 3.5% Vol 0.55% Vol
    HC 4500 0762 PPM

    Joeled R15
    Regulation Actual Reading
    CO 3.5% Vol 1.29% Vol

Does the decibel killer kills only the sound or kills a bit of power too??

Doesn't the decibel killer hamper the free flowing of the exhaust gases which might negate the power gain to some extent.

Also I would like to know is the decibel killer a plug and play thingy??

                    AFAIK
The dbKiller will limit the power by a small margin and it is Plug n Play with a single screw. The idea is to be able to remove it once you are out of the Police limits

                    • Installing the RTR 160 big bore

Installed the ? 172 cc big bore kit today at a Castrol Bike Zone.Hovered like a hawk over the quite competent mechanic as he installed it without much trouble!

The first picture is of the old bore.
One of the pics shows the new piston alongside the carbon covered old piston.

I'm keeping my throttle hand feather light : 50-55 kmph(on the speedometer) at around 4000 rpm.Very difficult . - till the running in period of 1000 kms!

I would appreciate tips on running-in the new bore.

                        Got the break welded.

Is there a dB killer on this exhaust ?

Sainikpuri CBZ (near the ? Ganesh Temple ) - he was short on mechanics today and worked on only my bike .

Incidentally, Castrol has withdrawn support to all CBZs as they were not profitable a while back according to the owner but they are allowed to use the tools till the end of the 5 year contract period.Having said that I still think that the mech did a good clean job and did not have any moments !

He charged me around Rs.650/-(I had already bought spares like the head gasket and bore packing from the Kiran TVS workshop on Minister Road).I also got a general servicing and mineral (oil) change which was charged extra.

                            • Running in the bore kit

I have driven around 125 kms now with the RTR big bore installed. There seem to be no problems either with the installation or the kit as of now.

I am not as sure about the Motoman's method of running-in as Stefanm seems to be http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/pit-stop...-hola-r17.html so I'm going with the method mentioned in the RTR manual.

There has been only a single instance where I went to about 6k on the tacho while overtaking and I could feel a definite increase in power. The engine on the whole feels torquey-er and less stressed. The big bore also seems to have had a calming effect on the crackling sound of the FFE - the exhaust note now has a nice bass beat rather than the brassy tin-can note that it had earlier.

Can't wait to pit the bike against an unsuspecting stock bike

28 Sept 2011 - Decided to change the Castrol engine oil and oil filter that has run around 225 kms to keep things nice and shiny . Have changed to Motul 3000 4T Plus 20W40 for the remainder of the running-in.
As per Joel's and other veteran big bore users' advice,I have been revving the bike occasionally to 6k rpm.
