Accidents-Learning from Them
Few days back i met with an accident. Kolkata is a city where Tram Rails still exist and hence the super risky Tram Lines. My bike skidded on that and hence the fall.
However, from this experience, i have few points to make to everyone. I'm sure atleast 1 person would be there reading this post who will be learning something:
In case if you so through an accident,
1. Don't hold on to the bike. It wil only increase the possibility of you getting hurt severely. Let it go while you're falling. Even if the bike is completely damaged, you can buy another but if it's the other way round, well, i don't have to show you the picture do i?
2. Don't panic. Keep yourself cool and composed. It's never embarrassing to meet with an accident, so take your time and then get up.
3.Let people around help you out lifting and parking the bike but remember to un-key it. If nobody is pro-active enough to come and help you, ask for help, don't hesitate. There's no shame about it. And if there's nobody there, follow the following steps to lift your bike:
a. Cross-check if the bike is in gear, it prevents the bike from rolling away.
b. Don't engage the clutch while lifting.
c. Engage the side stand before lifting and try to lift the bike from the opposite side (in case the bike falls on the right, in most of the cases, it does) and rest the bike on the stand.
d. If it falls on the left, Step c becomes invalid automatically. In that case, pull the bike up as much so that you can engage the side stand, engage the side stand and bingo.
4. Look for things which might have fallen from your pockets around.
5. Try to find out your areas and intensity of injury.
6. If you're sure that you can ride back home or to the destination or any nearby clinic, then check your ride properly if it is in a condition to be ridden (you wouldn't wanna invite another accident because of brake jamming or any other failure on your way so try to investigate your ride as much as possible)
7. If you feel you're in no condition to continue the journey or the bike is not in proper condition, call some friends or relatives staying nearby. Else calling the nearby police station will also help.
8. It is important to use First Aid. If you have it in your bike, better ride away from the location of the accident(if you're in that condition) and apply necessary First Aid as if you stay at the location, you would encourage unnecessary attention and all gyaans (words of wisdom) from elders which at that point of time will increase your pain(trust me), else take help from any medicine shop nearby.
When i had the accident, one auto driver asked me if he should put some "GEAR OIL" on my wounds. don't know whether or how it helps but i prevented it. arguing was not a solution so i softly told him "No dada I have First Aid in my bike. Thanks for asking".
9. Once you're done with this, continue your journey keeping in mind the areas and intensity of your injuries. Ride slow as there might be things which might have been broken inside of out of visibility to normal eyes.
Remember, the key is to stay calm and composed at all points of time. That is the only way to deal with any situation. Accidents are a part of our life, accidents happen, don't be scared of it but always be aware of it. Use riding gears, i know it brings in a lot of attention and mockery sometime, but ultimately, if you face an accident, you will be less injured than a person not wearing protective gears.
Hope this post is helpful.
Thanks guys, ride safe, take care.

Can you see a bike without headlight...(at night)
Monday 13th June 2011 time 8:30 pm...I was riding alone on one of the crowded road to my home.
At a certain point there is obtuse(angle) turn to left and on right side of that corner is a shop where I wanted to shop. As it was a busy street with scarcely street light I was pretty cautious. I took a look at the corner and traffic from right side of the road where I wanted to go. There was no one and no light approaching too. So I lit the right indicator and started to cross the road.
To my shock
there was a huge guy speeding towards me carelessly on Passion(with Headlamp OFF) from right side of the road. We both squeezed the breaks. Hussh we both were safe.
Thank God...but
Passion Guy: "Late indicator"
Me: "Headlight...headlight"
Passion Guy: "Can't you see a bike without headlight"
Me: "huh ...?????
"

My Accident Saga
The latest one of my accident saga's happened yesterday..
I was on a ride from Coimbatore to Palakkad with my friend as pillion, very early in the morning. While speeding at about 70kmph , a dog suddenly walks into the empty road! I had just a split second to think and couldn't react well. I didn't hit the break and ran straight into the friggin' dog! Upon impact my friend was launched into the air and I saw him calling for me. Somehow I manage to stay on the bike and stopped the bike at a further 10 meters from the site of impact. Thankfully, no trucks or lorries or traffic was there for 2 mins on an otherwise busy NH47. My friend is sleeping in his home now with an ugly bruise on his left hand and a torn pair of jeans!
Now on, I make it a point to hit the horn hard whenever I see something walking on four legs!!
Upon bringing my bike to college from home, I had hit a wide variety of bikes ranging from a Luna to an r15 and escaped injuries in all of these cases. One thing I learned, however good you ride, the road always has some surprises for you!! Watch out my fellow xBhpian's!!!

Your First Accident
We have all had accidents on our bikes at some point of time........ I thought it would be fun to write about our very first accidents in a separate thread....
Mine was in 2010 when I had just turned 16 and started going to college on an activa.
Location: Sai service station Kondhwa
How: I thought i cud take the sharp sloping corner on an activa with my knee down...... it ended with me sitting on the ground in the middle of the road and the bike skidding a few meters away....I wasnt hurt though.....but i was pretty shaken up......
lets have everyone write about their very first two-wheeler accidents.....Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, 'Wow! What a Ride!' -Hunter S. Thompson

Had total 8 crashes in 5 yr career. Amazingly none of them had bleeded me. Only one of them caused ligament enjury (and took entire year to heal). Another one caused soft pain on the middle back muscles. (Thanks to Lumbar Support Belt and CE approved armour). Other than these all crashes have been injuryless with minor damage to both human and machine.
.
On most of the occassions it was my fault. But one when I was rashed by Mahindra Bolero wasn't mine. I escaped unhurt (with minor chest wound) however my fazer got nice crashwork allover.
With every crash I've learned a lessons but it depends on person to person and the one's ability to handle his machine -
1. Avoid riding dark night in rain (After 2 crashes I realized that I've a little night blindness
)
2. Beware of Punaits
3. Do not corner unless you have 100% faith in you, your machine, its rear wheel and wet road. 99% and 101% (overconfidence) will not do.
4. Always wear safety gear (full armour recomended)
5. Keep your machine 100% healthy all the time
6. Make sure you avoid bumps and pothole above 60Km/Hr on FZ and Fazers. (in other words - take great care of the rims.... they are not cheap).Sometimes it takes tankfull of fuel before you can think wise

ahh.. puneites, while this is the case everywhere that older people seem to think that the road will get cleared for them and that they are the best and safest riders in the world; this seems to happen a lot more often in Pune.
Also aggressive drivers and local goons in scorpios just looking to harass a biker and get into a fight are a major threat in Pune at least at night times.Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, 'Wow! They are lets just say "a class apart"Originally posted by abhijitkn View PostHow you can miss auto rickshaw's & PMTs?
PMT's think they own the road because they work for the goverment transport system; more importantly most of our roads are so small that if a PMT bus is approaching from the other side then we literally have to get off the road
Auto Rickshaws think they can do whatever they want because they have support of the autorickshaw union; nowadays they have started carrying iron rods in their ricks just in case..Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, 'Wow! For some reason i always seem to attract the strangest people.
Just a few minutes ago i got out of my friends colony and was riding out of the lane, as it is a residential area with lots of colonies so i was just at around 35 and a dog decided to get in the way to avoid it i swerved and in the rush of the moment i opened throttle, just to stop in time to hit a maruti 800. Although i didnt fall and there was no damage to the car i just moved my bike to the side to go apologise to the person in the car.
The woman who was driving with her 22year old son just started howling at me coz she saw the whole incident with the dog and she started saying that it was my fault and stuff. The argument got heated and her son stepped out of the car and grabbed me by my collar, i got pissed and we got into a fight. my friends came outside the society because they cud hear the argument till the colony and broke the fight off and apologised to the woman frm my side.
I think i broke the guys nose cause he was bleeding, but i too have some injury on my shin.
And the womans explanation in the end for blaming me was that 'you should not come into residential areas on such fast and dangerous bikes'.Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, 'Wow!
