  • Thanks to XBHP Moderators !!!

The reason for a re-open request was to post an article about after market camshaft, but I feel it will be more relevant to have a new thread opened.

I was working with my bike till now and its almost done, still a few more work on the electricals and the disc plate fitting is to be done. Very tired unable to complete as informed, so will post the thread tomorrow for sure....Apologies.

I'm interested to know why. HD also does not reveal the horsepower figures on their bikes, dunno why but again they are torque monsters.

These are race bikes so it's all the more reason to publish the hp numbers.

I think he's talking about his race engines and not the street tuned ones.

My guess.......not revealing hp numbers could keep the opponents guessing about the competition's strength.....perhaps even underestimate the competition, which is always a good thing. Revealing hp figures would probably help the opponents make a stronger engine or plan a better race strategy or something.

In the racing field i think they never give a exact bhp figure, havent found the correct figures even for the Motogp bikes, it just says "over 300 bhp" or something like that. Might be some kinda mind games strategy, keeping the opponents guessing.
Which is why he is not revealing, and its not a pure track spec bike that he is talking about.

          Cheers

          • Let me say it one more thing:

The original purpose of this thread was to share your experience regarding tuning your bike and how you went about it.

It has lost its intended direction and is more about Joel Vs Harish, and unfortunately some other threads on similar topic are following the same path.

Everybody, please remember that as long as the motive is to share knowledge, you are most welcome on xBhp. The day it is felt that it is about promoting your own (or somebody else's) business interests, we will have to stop it right there.

This condition applies to this thread alone? I apologize if I sound offending, but there are many threads here in XBHP directly promoting Brands, Products/Service for self-business purely.

And thanks for re-opening my thread, I will strictly adhere to the forum rules and stick to the topic as like I did in the past.

              • A Modification Job with NO COMPROMISE !!!!

At last I am being paid for the 5weeks hard work with a BIG SMILE .

The setup is a grand success, let me tell why. Initially I planned for a 1000KM safe runin for the engine to setup properly. Coz earlier with a modded setup, I was put into trouble while opening the throttle in the past with those 165CC blocks. Below explains my feelings in the past....

Originally posted by RevHard Biplab View Post

But surprisingly the UMA forged/Nicasil system is on par with stock bike interms of quality and finishing, so its just like a new stock block with the massive torque from the 62MM Piston. Will a brand new R15 with stock block fail on you even when you abuse it to its limits???

Nope, will be the answer and the same is the scenario with my setup. When I twist the throttle the RPM needle stays right at 9K at ease, moreover the engine feels Butter smooth. SO MY RUN-IN PLAN IS DROPPED....Right away I am going to operate the bike normally.

This is a no compromise modd, YES I MEAN IT, NO COMPROMISE ANYWHERE. It runs like a brand new bike with the massive torque. No Ugly/Noisy revvs, No heating issues,No starting trouble, No FFE noise, in simple words its "bullsh*t free" now.

Still a few more tit-bits to be done tomo, like the chain tensioner etc...But here is a picture taken few mins ago and I dedicate this success to all my Friends and XBHPians who kept me active and checking the status frequently.

Anyone at Chennai willing to take a look at my bike can contact be through the below FB link.

Yes correct, the front Steel line is very tight, need to switch to a 60CMS one very soon. But the brakes are very crisp, coz I did stop my bike from 75Kmph to standstill in just about few meters at a sudden traffic mess, which would be never possible in stock. No unwanted vibes or any issues with the rotor and good news is that it gets less hot compared to stock ones. But not sure how the pads will sustain.

As of now dyno is not possible, until next two weeks. Did 135Kph in a short stretch in 5th gear. And it may be hard to belive (myself too) but I was able to ride at 31KMPH in 6th gear and upon twisting the throttle it flies to 70+ (to be precise the numbers displayed were 31>35>39>46>53>65>76).
The moment I release the clutch, the eagerness to move forward is much higher than RTR180.

An FFE on my setup will add 20% to the overall power and torque, but I am happy with the quite nature at present.

                    • Your acceleration figures mentioned in 6th gear are very impressive even without the FFE. A video of that will definitely spice it up. .

I am curious to know what top speed you are able to achieve with the current set up. What max rev can you hit in 6 gear in straight line. Let us know when you achieve it. Hope you update with a video.

You sure have guts in opening her up so early considering your previous experience. Good luck man.

I have already opened the throttle upto 11K RPM at 5th gear and once I saw 145Kph at Chennai Bypass unintentionally and these days Highway traffic has come-up too much there. But still I can say a little more crouching and a few seconds of full throttle hold will surely take it beyond the rev limiter in 6th gear. As you mentioned the FFE would have made the setup more powerful and easy. But I love the quiet nature being retained.

I don't believe in mythology, but still when trouble hits me, I say "Oh, My God!" Same way I did mention that I am not going to do a run-in, but still 'something' wants me to do the run-in, now I have done about 800Kms and do an oil change. Will list the experience,

                        1) Had an Air flow issue (Sorted out with K&N Stock replacement filter)
                        2) Engine Over heating issue after long rides (Its decreasing day by day and planning to use Ice coolant)

Find the Spark Plug condition, tested yesterday.

The carbon was just a thin layer and was easy to wipe off and found the tip to be brown, hence its a good sign that its not lean. Its running a bit rich mixture, but I get a handsome 45Kmpl under 5KRPM and 40Kmpl at normal operation.

As discussed, me too have some career changes. So will do the videos soon and upload.

The additional body parts installed like the Disc rotor, Rear hugger etc are direct fit and have no trouble till date.

                        • Update

Done about 10000Kms with the new UMA 180CC Block setup, all hard-work to my office

So its the perfect time to give an upgrade.

                          1) The Bike is so so so smooth that even a R15v2 owner cannot figure out that the engine is heavily modified.

                          2) The bike returns a mileage of 45Kpl at 100Kph on highways and 35-40Kpl in city.

                          3) Cold start issues found, but solved later with 10hole injector. Also the initial pick after to 10 hole injector is sooooooo good that even a 250CC biker adores it too much.

                          4) Had some Air flow issues, so did a complete research and ended up with the Ferrox Air filter which is an engineering marvel The material takes 0% dust but 100% air, just like your FFE

                          5) The bike topped 157Kph at 11RPM and cannot expect more from stock exhaust. The power output was 20+Bhp at rear wheel.

                          6) Dragged with a Duke and a complaint is registered with Chennai PBK

                          7) Fueling is perfect with this new Ferrox air filter, the spark plug is the evidence.

                          8) The cosmetic modds have blend into the bike, without any issues.

                          9) The 320MM disc rotor has proved the difference while braking over 120Kays, the stopping power is too good that I come under 60Kays in no time, nor jerks.

                          10) I am using Tribocor chain cleaner and Yamalube chain lube the result is really fantastic.

On the whole, I am very happy with the modds and often forget that my bike is modded due to no-compromises anywhere.

                          Find the Ferrox Airfilter below

Looks Normal?, check this one....you should be amazed.

I wanted to point out something about braking. watch below video, stock R15. Video taken in 2012 bike bought and raced in 2008 in 2008 nationals. Bike is still running on same brake pads from 2008 race season. braking time from 136kph to 59kph is 4secs (watch between 2min 13sec and 2min 17sec). Its not really the bike, its the rider most times.

                              • Just went through some of the thread, thought i'd share my 2 cents. I was the first in the country to import and test out big-bores on the r15, i had mine even before i bought my bike in 2008. I got my big bore from Haryono and since then i can see hes been selling to several others in India (refer to my post on the t135 forum in 2008 - Improving the R15's performance | YamahaT135.COM) ...My bore promptly siezed soon thereafter despite following directions to the T.we figured out why later. Without getting into details, end of the day nobodys perfect and the best way to ensure you get results for your bike is to know your engine and riding requirements well, do your homework and be willing to invest your own time and effort in the build. If a person cant do that but wants to simply spend money and magically end up with a powerful relable machine, hes better off with a stock bike.
