Can we have a bit of sanity on this thread.
This thread is losing its purpose which is to just put the facts and not praising/bashing any particular brand/product.
Can we stop nitpicking and personal fights and instead talk about facts?(Been There Done That) x 3.25

Can you people not see? This thread is just feedback for products he bought from a third party. If you have a problem with his bollywood style happy ending, so be it. I am happy his mods worked out. Had he not mentioned about his happy ending, this would have become just another mud-slinging thread which it is obviously not. Those who have a problem with him giving honest feedback are free to post their own new threads filled with their own honest (positive) feedback and push him into the minority. That would go a long way in proving that he was just 1 out of a zillion (supposedly) happy customers whose mods didn't work out.
At all who think it is an advertisement thread, please point us all to all of Harish's posts which have linked to his business page. I am sure he himself will take those links off because obviously he doesn't seem to make it look like that.
Finally, we have had many threads which have highlighted the pros of Race Concepts mods. Now we have a thread which shows the other side of the coin and also suggests a viable alternative (apart from going back to stock / selling your bike), taking matters into your own hands. Because thats what the Thread Starter himself has done.
Now a NOTICE: All further references to this thread being an advertisement thread WITHOUT pointing out which posts actually link to HarishK's business page will be treated as OT and suitable action will be taken.Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

The Turning Point:
I did mention about a business earlier right? to throw some light on it, I started a Facebook fan page for R15 Version 2.0 just to have interaction with more experts to help me with my bike. After months of hard-work online, its running successful now. Which is just a fan page and its non-commercial. So with this page I started another commercial page.
After the PSM plates import, I got the contacts at customs and made them friends. Now, I import accessories directly from Indonesia and sell it here at a minimum profit, coz I need I believe in slow and steady business and moreover its just a part time for me (I am an IT Engineer)
. Also I import products in bulk directly from the manufacturers. Hence the cost at which I sell it, after shipping and customs will be equal to the retail cost sold in that country. So with the small and sweet profit earned, I got my performance parts.

Stay calm and read the complete paragraph before jumping into conclusions, This "business", was how I was able to afford the new modds after getting my pockets blown in the past and I hope there is no harm in explaining what exactly it is coz the purpose of the business is mentioned very clearly at last. Can we stop this talk right here?
I am yet to post a lot of updates to this thread......Last edited by HarishK; 05-16-2012, 02:10 PM.

I have been following this thread and I couldn't resist So I post my experience.
Few years back I modded P180 and failed by my mechanics in Chennai, I had to take some people to get some money back from him and then sold it for just 22K with some mods.
I did conclude NO more mods again and my financial situation was dependent that time. But I did not stop. MODS do thrill. Its always a good feeling riding a high performance bike (be it stock or modded) especially when u r a powerful underdog.
Now I have a RC tuned R165 and I do have plans for more MOD job. I did the mod in Jan end 2012 and completed 2.5 k kms in couple months. After that the usage is back to normal. I did post my experience with videos here but went unnoticed as mods merged it in between ownership thread. Few bhpians came forward and responded to that later.
Now I have around 3.8K kms clocked and I am happy with it. P220 is no match and I did manage to get past CBR250 once when I had a chance. My usage is very minimal. I did test top speed several times and crossed 140. I also revved her past 11k may time in lower gears. its pure bliss.
May be I am a lucky bloke. I do feel sorry for the failures, coz its money.
If guys expect reliability as stock please stay out of any mods for that matter.
I am a 90kg rider, with the Db limiter I did 0-100 in about ~9 sec or may be less than 10. Experts can compare it with stock bike with me riding. Also can quote a approx Bhp figure that made it possible. I do have a mobile phone video in the ownership thread.
Every individual always have a choice so make it according to your requirement rather than gambling. Every tuner believes strongly in his work. Lets respect that and its up to us to take it or leave it what he offers. Not to mention Joel's customer service is the best of my experience so far.
I do request guys with MODS successfully done also post their experience (Be it RC or any other). It will throw better insight I suppose

I have been watching his thread for some time now. Things are going way over my head. R15 0–100 in 5.5 sec ? U.S spec 39.5bhp RD 350 takes 5.2 sec to reach 100km/h.Originally posted by Joel View Post@aargee - On-road performance is more realistic than dyno numbers.
Well, just to quickly brush you, my race R15 clocks 0-100kph in under 5.5secs
The only way I know of to do 0- 100 in 5.5sec on r15 is to reduce the bikes weight to 70kg if it makes 20.44BHP.
Here is the math:
U.S B Spec 143kg Dry Weight and makes 39 bhp (29 kW) and it take’s 5.2sec to reach 100
RD U.S (39/143 * 1000) = 272BHP/1000kg power is to weight ratio. Formula (BHP/Weight x 1000kg)
R15 stock (16.7/132*1000) = 126BHP/1000kg
R15 modified 165cc bore kit with compression 11.5 (20.44/92 * 1000) = 222.17BHP/1000kg
Taking it from the fact of power to weight ratio if RD with 272bhp w/p takes 5.2 sec then sock r15 will take 12.48sec to reach 100km/h
And the 165cc with 11.5 compressions and 92kg weight will take 6.2 sec to reach 100km/h which is on power with Ninja on paper. But let’s not forget torque of 250cc
That torque cannot be matched by 165cc which created another 5 to 8% hit and brings down the 0 – 100km/h of 165cc 92 kg bike to 7sec if r15 makes 21bhp.
And real world performance is very good it if is real. But most of the folks edit the video increasing the frame skip rate or 2 friends talk about the outcome before they start the drag.
So it’s useless. Let’s follow international language of power talk... Dyno run
My friend Raghav who is also a class m8 has a garage here in Chennai called ignite and I can help you run dyno for free.
I really want to know how your R15 can do it when physics and dynamics are against it. may be i can learn a few from you. I like to learn new things. please help me understand.
Just clean it and run it clean if you dont want to be hear broken. every one wants to make money and some make it out of others egoOriginally posted by abhi_underdog View PostWell I talked to Harish last year, he was unhappy to say the least, but then I talked to so many others, they were ecstatic.

Bro, your bike is already Harish'd. So if you plan to modify your ride anywhere just go through my thread and know the other possible outcome and decide accordingly.Originally posted by abhi_underdog View PostWell I talked to Harish last year, he was unhappy to say the least, but then I talked to so many others, they were ecstatic.

Harish'd in the sense, I personally advice to stay stock as mentioned in the thread's conclusion.

I don't know about others but I don't do the above. I am not going to say that I have achieved a 5 sec or 6 sec 0 - 100. However, my bike has achieved a 0 - 60 mph in 9.14 secs. Proof; take a look at the graph. The reason for not being able to do good 0 - 100 kms runs was due to the venue we had selected. There is a road that intersects the road on which we were testing. Due to merging traffic, the rider had to let off the throttle at just about the 96 km/h mark.Originally posted by sridar1983 View PostAnd real world performance is very good it if is real. This graph is from my Gtech data logger and not some phone based GPS software. The Gtech data logger is a serious measuring instrument and not something that I can fudge. My bike still has a lot of potential, I am sure that in the next runs it will do the mid 8s. Also if you are thinking that I have cheated in some manner like over inflating the tyres, please rest assured that I have not. I have kept the bike stock with the complete body work, regular fuel (a full tank), with the mirrors and standard tyre pressure. The only thing I have removed is the saree guard. My bike has been weighed in at 130 kgs full wet weight on a digital scale.
I have been having problems with the fuel pump and that has just been replaced with a new unit. With the way the bike is now responding at higher rpm, I don't think it should have any problems doing a mid 8 second run. Hopefully, I will do the runs within the next couple of weeks and post the results.
In case you are wondering a stock R15 V-Box results are:
1. 0 - 100 kms: 13.65 seconds
2. 1/4 mile: 18.5 seconds
My bike results are:
1. 0 - 96 kms: 9.14 seconds
2. 1/4 mile: 16.7 seconds
As far as dyno results are concerned, I have been searching for a dyno for more than a year to do the same. There is one at PSR, Mumbai, but they are unwilling to do a run for me. So for the time being I am stuck with data logger. I would welcome any suggestion on how to go about testing further.Only a biker knows why a dog sticks his head out of a car window.

The graph is not clear. Can you post hi res one? It’s not clear and i don’t see the numbers. It will help me understand if the numbers are clear. Please post one in which the numbers are visible.Originally posted by abhimanyu31 View PostI don't know about others but 0 - 60 mph in 9.14 sec. Proof; take a look at the graph.
And to be frank with you, 9ish is possible. Even 8.5 is possible considering your weight and wind because after 75km/h mark, wind plays its part and if there is not enough torque left... 80 - 100 will get hit. Ending up in a delayed 0 - 100.
I also would like to add a few details which may help how this works.
The problem with most of the people look for BHP and they forget the fact the torque is something which actually gives the thrust which experience when they do a run for 0-100km/h
A very good example is Toyota Corolla 2008 15 spec. the car makes 132bhp and the weight is 1300KG which works out to 101.53BHP/1000Kg and if you check the 0 - 100 of Toyota Corolla it is 9.4seconds. Have you ever wondered why? 170NM of torque is the answer and torque is based on the stroke and compression ratio of the engine. a long stroke engine can make more torque but cannot rev higher. but a short stroke engine won’t be able to make lot of torque but will be able to spin higher and can make more horse power. It’s a balance between both. For sudden acceleration you need torque and for to sustain that seed you need BHP.
And if someone is calculating 9.4sec if 101bhp/1000kg then you will get a result of 4.7sec for 202bhp/1000kg because you are just multiplying it. But it will not work that way because the varying factor is torque. Another good example is that CBR250R able to keep up of better Ninja250 in acceleration to 100km/h is because of the torque. But for sure Ninja will blast away after that. because ninja and CBR are designed to suit a particular need. When it comes to India, 20% may not worry about km/l but rest 80% really care.
Here is another example to show that.
CBR150R makes 19.5bhp all over the world but when released in India, it makes 18bhp... why??? Simple answer is km/l
India's first question to any model is "kitna mileage dete hai" so that shows what we need and expect.

Another RC tuned 220
@Harish-sorry to hear about the trouble you had to go through.I got my 220 joelled, that included-
1-A big bore
2-Mikuni 33mm semiflat
3-Simota freeflow airfilter
4-ffe(had got a year before going for the mods)
5-Head ported
The result was a very different 220(read i am not advertising race concepts, just giving the due credit).
No more vibes, low end had suffered a bit but past 6k it pulls like crazy.Managed to do 145 quite effortlessly and good have gone more(read i havent conducted a top speed test). One thing that surprised me is how smooth the bike had become. For all these mods i travelled from Mumbai to bangalore.Running in was taken care during the return trip.Till date, past 5000km(date of mod-26th january),no problems at all(touchwood) apart from a lesser mileage(later diagnosed to a jammed airscrew, later rectified). The ffe eats glasswool like theres no tomorrow(after the big bore set up)apart from that,am a satisfied customer
.Again sorry to hear about your trauma.
Socha Toh Locha.

@shridar1983; sorry, thats the best I can do as of now. The software for data analysis gives its output in pdf format. I had to convert it to a jpg file to post it hence the resolution problem. However, I can mail you the pdf file if you so desire. Just PM me your email address (but will take time as I will have to forward it to you from my office PC, the software does not work on Mac).
As you said, a mid 8 sec is possible and I am more than happy with the results till date with the changes I have made. For me its not about basting around with wide open throttle and bragging about about how its better anyone else's bike. I am way past that stage in life
. Its about the engineering and challenges it provides. Money is not the criteria (though I not here to throw away any of it), its a hobby and gives me great satisfaction to work with my own hands on my bike.

I really liked this thread. Like already said before, bike mods are like two sides of a same coin & this thread has brought up the other side of the coin to everyone's notice.
So far I have heard either very positive or very negative reviews on these big bore kit. But HarishK has given a very unbiased review on the same. Nice.
