@sheel - oil consumption varies from engine to engine. A healthy engine will keep the oil level constant. If you have a high revving engine, oil change interval will be closer. Opposite for low revving. But then again, some are subjective.
3k is what you can assume for most indian engines.sigpic

Anyways, I use Agip Fully Synth Racing Oil. We race with that oil and Agip is our sponsor.
I change every 2.5 - 3k kms on my street engine.sigpic
