  • well it looks wierd (not normal to the eyes of public). u only get to see the gears in movies or stunt shows and obvious public will think of those shows and stare at you.

well sometime i get funny stares and giggles when i wear HELMET and i am wearing shorts or 3/4ths while riding in my neighbourhood. even i feel wierd but i know in doing the best thing and its for my safety so i just ignore them.

even my colony friends ridicules my decision of wearing HELMET even when i have to ride it to my nearby friends house and not more than 2kms. but i dont listen to them. i only say "tu bas peech baithne ka kaam kar.....aaand matt kha"

    • Am i Weird to wear Arm and Knee Protectors in street?

A month Back i got a set of AXO arm and knee protectors (yeah, i know they are cheap, but that was my budget), thinking that they will provide me with some safety in streets (already faced many accidents) , the day i got them, i have been stopped many times by cops, most of them accuse me of being a stunter, (i dont even know how to pull basic wheelies), and people, just look at me weirdly. A few praise me, while most of them will just taunt.. :|

I havent seen 1-2 people except me, riding here in delhi with these stuffs, is it that these stuffs are only meant for stunters ?

The answer to your question can be given in both 'yes' and 'no.' By the looks of it, yes we bikers look different than the crowd, and some people even find this weird. But, being different is our identity. We look different because we are different. Even people think I am weird when i wear helmet in Ghaziabad. But i just don't care. Though admittedly i find it uncomfortable wearing my full riding gear all the time because of unnecessary attention i get from the crowd, but i love it too most of the times, i feel like a celebrity. You'll get used to it with time, you'll start enjoying and so will people around you.

          • Same here..

hey Freakout4321, I have the same kit as yours and face the same issue. Although i dont face the cop problem...probably cause i ride a dio... cop normally let me pass without pulling me over...but ya generally the crowd does give you a very strange stare (esp. the gaon walla's)...the kind of stare most foreigners get in this country ....i dont like to grab much attention.....so i normally wear only the knee protectors and a thick full sleeve or a jacket while touring...its ok to do so if you are riding something like a dio since you wont be breaking the land speed record on it......that why i am here on xbhp so that instead of touring solo we can tour as a group...all wearing the most attention grabbing armour and then show the finger to any one who taunts.......no really....k,k ....we need not be that mean....!!

              • well , i daily wear my riding jacket to office ... from past 2 years .. and intially i too got same prob as ur's ppl just stare at u for some time ,.. and by the time passed .. it became normal ... now i feel really uncomfortable if i don;t wear my riding jacket and glouse daily.

i have a good solution for u ... if u wear knee guard no one will stare u much ..as it won;t grab more attention.

Elbow guard if ur wearing make sure u wear jacket on top of that .. and in this way no one notice it and if u wear glouse also it won;t attract everyone's attention....

keep riding ..with proper gear .. trust me ppl will respect u ..

One of my friends recently crashed at 90.....wearing full gear i.e. helmet, jacket, gloves, knee guards......he walked away from the incident with few scratches only.....later on a minor fracture on ankle was diagnosed, even that could have been avoided if he would have been wearing riding boots......

let people say what they want...

Riding gears are for anyone who rides a bike. Period.
Don't worry about what people around think. If they laugh at you, just think of how they would survive a crash, vs. someone wearing riding gear. That should give you reason enough to pity them for their ignorance.

Yes. It sure helps. On one of our g2gs, a fellow rider crashed. He was wearing an armoured jacket, knee guards, gloves & thick shoes. That saved him, & he came out of the crash with a couple of hairline fractures. Things would have been a lot worse with any of these riding gears not in place on that fateful day.

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

                      • Two of my friends are indebted to me for making them wear riding gear
In a place like delhi, it makes a lot of sense to wear atleast basic riding gear considering the murderous car traffic.
Regarding the stares, well you will just get used to them. People might even come up with quirky logic that you don't need it unless you are travelling very fast. Just ask them to rub their hands on tarmac at 25 kmph and let you know how it feels

                            • the weirdest comment i ever got was from a friend's mom, she asked " Helicopter se aaya h kya ? "

and today, a friend and his girlfriend were kinda embarassed when i entered in Mc Donalds with my knee protectors on (didnt had space in bag to put it there, was only able to fit arm protectors in it, and gloves).

though all the time, i was a point of attraction for all the chicks there on their scooties or as pillion
