  • Re: electrical modification, convert apaches to full dc with power to run hids all day

    Hi guys,
could some one please help me out,
the battery of my bike is not charging properly and dying overnight, I have converted my bike to full DC, I gave the coil to an auto electrician, he did the coil rewinding and put ape rr, I checked the voltage while the engine is running and at various RPMs as per Drvmtm's post, the voltage seems to be fine (12 - 15 volts), however when I removed the yellow wire from battery and connected to red multimeter terminal and black terminal to the negative of the battery the rating at amp mode is just 1 amp no matter what the rpm is, so what do you think this might be the problem with the RR unit or the stator coil? please help me asap. (Sajjit, Abhijeet and Drvmtm kindly reply me....)

Is there anybody using yamaha Fazer RR unit for full dc conversion , I know @bobisbacktorock is using it with stock coil ungrouding process ..
But after rewinding with thicker gauge with this RR ??
As per yamaha fz16 manual it has capacity of 20amps , but have anybody checked it with higher amps ? like 10+ amps ..

I found honda stunner faced power loss (facing load on engine in lower rpm) after rewinding with 18 gague wire, so for rewinding should I use 19gauge or 20 gauge ?..
Appx how much power I can expect for a 7 pole stator with 20 gauge & and 19 gauge wires ?? bike Bajaj platina 125..

      • AC to DC in Apahe RTR 180 for Head lamp

        Hi,

Greetings for the day, xBHP friends.

        My query is:

        1. I have RTR 180 fitted with phoenix 12V 35/35W with exide battery (Stock). I want to convert the light connection from AC to DC. (connected directly to battery)

        2. And also i planning to replace this ordinary light, by HID 6000k (white light). And also connected to battery.
And also suggest me good lighting brand for this.

I am using the bike, in day and night by 50/50.

Whether i have to use any relay for that for both the cases or already it is having inbuilt relay.

Any problem or damage or weakness or fast draining will happen to battery, in both the cases?.

If anything comes, how can i overcome this? How much will be the approximate cost in both the cases.?

        Thanks in advance.

plz see the pic and tell me which wire number is for what ?

also im thinking of just removing stock rr and putting ape rr to support the stock 35watt on dc . is it possible without problems like short circuit or something as light coil will be totally unused . i know output will be poor but i think it will be better than stock as ape is efficient rr unit

This solved ope part of the DIY myth. I guess the black wire in the above picture is ground ??

Today I opened my Apache 150 and saw that above mentioned wires are going into to elephant trunk like wiring harness and what comes out at regulator rectifier end are different. Stock RR unit has 5 wires:

                Hello All,

Finally got the conversation done at Marina Auto Electricals. Neat job with Minimum slicing / cutting of wires. Ape RR unit used which is INEL make. INEL is the OEM supplier for TVS and Piaggio. Coasted ~1000 INR. Now running well without any problems.

Planning to upgrade to 100/90 but before that need to convert all the lights to LED including Meter lights.
