general questions regarding apache rtr 180 performance
Hey guys! I am having a doubt in my mind. As im having Apache rtr 180 2012, I was asking if revving my bike till 10000 RPM damage the engine or is it safe as red line starts at 9k RPM, but the bike is eager to revv more. I was asking this because I have saw the R15 speedo and it is safe to revv it till 10k RPM as the tachometer suggests. So, will it be the same for my bike too. I mean are the TVS manufacturers overprotective about their bikes?Tags: None

You can be assured that tvs isn't overprotective!!Originally posted by mudit_seh View PostHey guys! I am having a doubt in my mind. there isn't a rev limiter in the RTR, so for all real reasons, your bike will rev all the way to 12k rpm.
But just because you can, don't. There's a reason they call it the redline : potentially dangerous. You may take it across 10k, but everytime you do, the engine gets hurt a little. Keep doing it regularly, and three years down the line, it may just breakdown. Its the same with any bike.
Look after the engine like it's a Part of you. Ride safe!

thanks for the info there...but 1 more thing I wanted to ask is that as I've revved my friend's R15 till 10.5k RPM and the company doesnt even show redline on the tachometer for this which may mean that it is safe to revv at thay limit and it starts at 11k RPM. So why is it safe for R15 and not for apache! Knowing the reason that R15 is liquid cooled and all but still revving more should affect all the bikes or is it different??? And sorry as I myself couldnot see my thread I even searched on xbhp but couldnot so I could comment there. Actually found it while searching about info on google..:P

Not to do with air/oil/liquid cooling and all that stuff.Originally posted by mudit_seh View Postthanks for the info there...but 1 more thing I wanted to ask is that as I've revved my friend's R15 till 10.5k RPM and the company doesnt even show redline on the tachometer for this which may mean that it is safe to revv at thay limit and it starts at 11k RPM. Its rather the nature of the bike that decides these factors.
The R15 is a race replica of the R1 and uses very high quality internals (doesn't mean TVS is bad). It makes its peak power @8.5K RPM in top gear.
Now mind you, in my Karizma; red line starts at 8.2K and its still less than R15's power band!
The bike is tuned in such a way that you see R15 having its red line at 11K. Apache has more torque in the lower bands as well and that's why its so fun to ride in city as well as highways. Take off that torque curve and place it higher in the rev band, your bike shall rev past 10K as well.
TVS as a manufacturer wanted their bike to be the way it is, to perform the way it does. They are in fact so confident that they did not put a rev limiter in the RTR.
That's a pretty good build I must say.
These bikes love to be revved, but we must not rev till the red line all the time. Stay in the power band! Not only does it reduce wear and tear, you get better acceleration this way too.Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Anything beyond red is danger but not always.... yes you may rev it once in a while till 11k .. 12k will be too much may be only for Track Racing

Ya, you are saying it correct. Thanks there. And Im not one of those always revving 10k because this bike is gifted by my parents to me for college and I dont want to screw it so early. So, I do take care for and keep it in power bands at all times. Just, I asked this as I wanted to confirm that will it harm the engine if I redline it once in a while just for testing purpose. I myself did this only one time and that too only till 2nd gear. So, the question here that would I have damaged my engine bit on just slightly touching 10k or sometimes in near future?Originally posted by Divya Sharan View PostNot to do with air/oil/liquid cooling and all that stuff.

I agree with you but I dont think this bike will even touch 12k RPM. Even when I asked the service person he also replied that it will revv to max 11k RPMs!!!Originally posted by shahbaz63 View PostAnything beyond red is danger but not always.... yes you may rev it once in a while till 11k .. 12k will be too much may be only for Track Racing

Re: general questions regarding apache rtr 180 performance
I'm guessing it's tacho error, but I have taken it across 11k myself. If I had a bit more road it would've touched 12k for sure. Again, this is tacho indicated. There will be error.Originally posted by mudit_seh View PostYa, you are saying it correct. Thanks there. Redline once in a while shouldn't matter. It'll help the engine actually. So occasionally you may do it. And I would strongly advice against redline in the first three gears. The bike has good enough acceleration and torque to keep away from redline in the first the gears. Hit tagline only after that.

You MUST rev it till 11k once in a while. This will help remove carbon deposits from the cylinder head.
Avoid redlining in 1st and 2nd, as it may lead to a power wheelie.Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Tacho error? I heard about error in speedo but dont know about error in tachometer. And moreover I dont think going over powerband helps as when I myself tried it, the bike was speeding very slowly after that as I was punishing the engine!!!Originally posted by madhav766 View PostI'm guessing it's tacho error, but I have taken it across 11k myself. Power wheelies my love. hehe. Yes, you are correct in this the bike tends to jump in second gear after redlining in first gear giving me a feeling of an R1 or R6..simply awesome!!!
