Re: Pulsar AS 200 Excessive Coolant and Engine Oil usage. Have I been sold a lemon?

Got the bike today. After 11 days.
Gave the ASC a call, they told me to come at 4:30PM. And I did. And then they made me wait for 1 and a half hour, before finally giving the bike at 6:00 PM. Bajaj and unprofessionalism go hand-in-hand.

Anyways, the bike is smooth as ****. > insert feels-good-man.jpg here <

    Feels extra smooth.

    BUT

They told me that since the coolant might be in the engine chamber, so I should probably ride the bike for, like 1 day (about 20 KMs they say) and take it back to them day after tomorrow, following which they will drain the engine oil again, which might contain residual amount of coolant, and fill fresh engine oil and coolant.

Do a proper check and don't sign on job card/complaint closure form until you are satisfied with their work or your problem is solved.

Do keep an eye on the oil and coolant level along with the oil color over the window.. glad they fixed it and hope they have resolved it for the long run

I'm late to the party but glad that the worst is over now and you are back on the saddle.
Try not to keep any grudges and give your bike another chance. The stooges @ the service-centres sure test our patience but i think as the rider the final quality check has to be Ours. Noone else gonna care for our rides more than ourselves. So all i'm trying to say is try and get to know your bike better and she will bring you back from Pir Panjal Valley & Mughal Road all smiles.

          Cheers.

P.S:- I seriously think that mods should move this thread to "COFFEE LOUNGE".

Did that. Entire engine oil drained + new engine oil filled.

Was charged Rs 430 for the new engine oil. Should've been complimentary, but meh, I cant be bothered about Rs. 500 as long as the damn thing runs reliably.

Now I've been told to bring it back for the second service whenever its due. So yeah, time to put some KMs on it.
Might not venture too far, though. Something within a 50 km radius at first.

Lahore would've been ideal, since its 49.5 km from Amritsar, but then, shit happened, waaayyy back in 1947, so, well, looking for alternative destinations. Pathankot is one, and I know of a shop that sells awesome Dhokla(PM me for details).

Not related to the incident, but the same ASC today, this happened

In the morning, at 10 AM

Me: [arrives at ASC, goes to the sales incharge] Bike dena hai service ke liye (Have to give the bike for service)
He: Problem kya hai bike mein? (whats the problem in the bike?)
                Me:
Me: Problem koi nahi hai, bas 1 saal se service nahi hui. (no problem, just that since 1 year the bike has not been serviced)
Me: Delhi jaana hai isne, toh socha service karva lun. (He/she/it has to go to Delhi, so I thought to get it serviced)
He: Karna kya hai? (what to do?)
Me: Engine oil change, oil filter change, coolant top up, general service. [also me, to myself. What the ****. Why is he asking me what to do?]
He: Ho jayega, shaam ko 3 baje le lena. (will be done, come at 3 PM)

                At 4:30 PM

                Me [enters]
Me: [sees the bike parked in completed area]
Me: [goes to payment window to pay]
                Me: [hands over slip]
                cashier: 950 Rs
Me: Hands over Pink currency note
Me: [observing that he has the bills] Coolant top up kar diya?
Cashier: [Looks into bills] Pata nahi (i dont know)
                Cashier: jaa ke dekh lo
                Me:

Me: [goes and looks at bike, observes coolant below minimum level]
Me: [goes to service incharge] Maine kaha tha coolant top up kar dena (I said to top up the coolant)
Me: Minimum level ke bhi neeche hai coolant (coolant is below minimum level)
He: Sir, coolant hai nahi. (Sir, no coolant)
                Me: [WTF face]
He: Sir coolant khatam hai (Sir coolant finished)
He: Koi nahi, aise hi chala lo, kuch nahi hoga (No worroes, ride it like this, nothing will happen)
Me: [to myself. WHAT. THE. F#%&. How can an ASC not have coolant. Are they kidding me? Is this an elaborate joke?]
Me: Mai bol ke gaya tha ke bike ne 500 KM jaana hai Delhi tak, raste mein iska engine ka kaam ho jayega. (I said the bike has to go to Delhi 500 KM, the engine will be wrecked on the way)
He: Nahi. 500 km toh nahi chalegi. (Nah. wont run 500 km)
He: Aap coolant laye ho? (Have you brought the coolant?)
                Me: https://houseofgeekery.files.wordpre...-chan-whut.jpg
He: Aap jaa ke coolant ki bottle le aayo, hum top up kar denge (you go and get the coolant, we'll top it up)
He: Coolant waise top up karna padta hai, apne paas le kar rakh lo (You frequently need to top up the coolant, buy it and keep it with you.)
He: Agli baar aaoge to le aana, usi se daal denge (next time you come, you bring the bottle, we will top up from that.) [Implying that they have no intention of ordering coolant in the near future, and if you have a liquid cooled bike, bring your own GODAMN coolant xD ]
Me: Kahaan se milega? Aapke paas hai kya?
He: [goes to cashier seat and checks database]
                He: Nahi hai (dont have)
He: Mangwa deta hun (will get it arranged)
He: [Calls an assistant] Inke saath jaa aur coolant le ke aa (go with them and bring/buy coolant)
Me: [Starts the bike. Yes mine. Yes, the one with below minimum coolant. He sits behind me, and we go, like 2 KM and buy the coolant bottle. 280 Rs, BTW]
[The engine is burning hot when we return. Yes, in that brief 2km journey]
[wait for like 5 minutes for the engine to cool down]

[Then he takes it inside back again to fill the coolant, tops it up, and gives me the rest of the bottle of coolant]

Me: Any extra labour charges for this?
                He: No

                Me: [Thumbs starter. Rides out]

                Today I Learnt
                a) ASC staff are clueless
                b) They will actually tell you to ride without the requisite consumables if they dont have it in stock
                c) They dont even have the bare basic necessities, and neither the intention to stock up on them
                d) Bring your own godamn coolant
                e) They expect you to learn to top up your coolant, and keep topping it up

And on a completely unrelated, yet somewhat related note, recomment some good ASC in or around LAxmi Nagar area in Delhi, though having said that, I'm pretty sure everything is an upgrade over this one.

Bagga Link supposedly has a decent reputation. And the one in Noida as well.

But the service provided by the official SVCs in metro cities leaves much to be desired.

My suggestion, if your bike is out of the warranty period then find a decent mechanic near where you stay. Take interest in your motorcycle and start maintaining it yourself. Use the mechanic only to get the work done. The rest you should know about your bike. That is the only way to have a happy ownership experience.
