EDIT: I opened up the fairing with too much pain and swapped the ballast with a confirmed working one. No luck.
Then thought of checking the fuse in the HID wiring. The fuse was corroded because of battery fumes. Cleaned the fusebox with Isopropyl Alcohol and replaced the fuse. It is working now. But I dunno when it will conk off. M scared to ride at night now.

Now the HID on my bike is dead and when I switch it ON I can hear and feel the relay clicking. When I pull the pass switch the bulb moves back and forth but the damn stick does NOT light up at all. No amount of switching off and then back ON helps. I think my ballast too died.

how did you find a connection?

besides coming back, that his switching off when you hit high beam, is high beam a separate bulb??
if yes then maybe you load is too much to light up both...
i used to face this when my coil's ground was not floated, and whenever i used to hit high, low used to turn down, but as soon as got coil problems sorted, nothing bothered me, except from the thing now...

Seems like the solenoid to pull the bulb back and forth making some loose connections while moving. Some HID bulbs can be opened and check the issue. Check for the screws behind the bulb base.

@everyone: yeah people. Mine works and sometimes it doesn't. Now it has developed a peculiar problem. It lights up when I switch it ON, but as soon as I shift to high beam or use the pass switch, it shuts down altogether. I have to switch it off and wait for atleast 2 to 3 seconds before turning it ON so that it'd work properly. But still the pass doesn't work everytime. Sometimes it works flawlessly but sometimes it shuts the HID down. Dunno what's wrong. any ideas? Sorry Nano, didn't mean to hijack your thread but didn't wanna start a new one.

@Nano - Seems like a HID prob only. Just check all the wirings for cuts etc... Also as suggested by others, check the ballast/bulb.

@Pavan - I only said chinese HIDs can be unreliable!

i am using the relay with the entire wiring, send by navnish itself.
i don't thing wire is loose, but will check..
the thing is that i don't have a spanner so i will have to wait for a few days to be free and then do it.

copy that.
I'll replace the plugs which goes into the ballast..
besides i just called up navnish, he got worried as nothing like that happened before, but he will send me a replacement ballast if its gone kaput.
i will need to check first..

will check the wiring too, if needed will unplug everything, plug it back and try..

Dude, hid are never unreliable.
mine is an exceptional case, NO ONE has faced any problem with hid working apart from battery issues, which by now everyone knows how to do right.

my low beam is even older bulb and ballast, but it is working awesome..

HIDs are more reliable in life and performance than halogens provided you have a good kit.

Nano, do as Shree suggested, just inter change the ballast connections to the bulb. Its the only way to find out which one is faulty. Also check for the wire tappings (joints) and secure them with enough zip ties as this can also a cause.

FIR indicates ur ballast seems to be faulty or may be even the bulb. Do the test and update and why don't u ask Navnish's help for a easy fix? He's more experienced in installing hIDs than us.

@Nano - You need not replace the ballasts, just interchange the connection and try. I think that is the only way to confirm its a problem with HID.

Do check you relay / diodes (if u have used) for heating or any issues.

@Pavan - I don't agree that HID's are unreliable but sometimes minor things take it haywire !!

Man my HID too has become too damn unreliable...I guess Abhijeet080808 was right when he said it makes more sense in sticking to halogens.

the problem is as follows :-

today i rode my bike for some time, before touching the bike to the highway i was on low beam only...
as soon as i touched the highway i switched on the high beam..
battery was very nicely charged already (FYI)
i did see the bluish tinge of hid when it was achieving the stabilization state but later when i waited for it to glow to full intensity, i realized that my bulb was flickering..
i am talking about HIGH BEAM ONLY..
it turned red-yellow-red and switched off...

i kept on riding keeping high beam OFF, after a while i tried again, same thing happened, the only difference this time was that red color was not seen, it just flickered a bit and turned off.

initially it gave a feeling similar to what happens when battery is dying, but it was not the case, as i pushed my bike to 8k rpm and revved it real hard, but it didn't save my hid to keep glowing..
it just turns off...

i did try once or twice again, same thing happened and the highway got over...
in city, i just switched my high beam HID on again.
it lighted well, reached stabilization state normally and was glowing to full intensity as it always did, that too at as low as 3000 rpm...

it was better than what it behaved like in the highway.
it was on for a longer time compared to highway and after a while again flicked once or twice and switched OFF.

when i say it flickered, i don't mean as it flickers when our battery is dying, in my case it almost turns OFF and turns ON and that is what i mean by flickering here..

i parked my bike, checked weather the high beam ballast connection was loose or not, it was okay.

i switched OFF the headlamp, rode for a while and kept high beam selected and SWITCHED on the headlamp, by doing this both of them will glow together, i wanted to know weather its happening with the low beam also, or does it behave well if both are lighted on together, instead of switching ON high beam separately..

but what happened was that high beam didn't glow..
it did turn on for 1-2 secs with a bluish tinge but i won't call it being switched ON.

what i understand is that IF my battery is low to light up both of them together, then it shouldn't glow both, in fact it should even glow one..
even if it does so, the speedo should stop working to indicate the battery is low...
but everything else works fine..
horn blows as loud as it can..
console's shining bright, low beam is just as it should be, all's well expect that high beam....

what should i do ???

is my (high beam) ballast gone kaput, or the H7 HID bulb??

when i reached back home, i parked my bike on main stand,(engine was off) went up ahead, switched on the headlight on low beam, projector glow wonderfully, i waited it to reach stabilization and then switched to high, all i could see was a igniting stage for a second or so, and then it just switches off..
bulb physically looks just as before, not like tube-lights which turns darker on the sides if spoilt...


i don't have spanners, otherwise i would have opened the stuff and replaced the corresponding ballasts just to check weather it does the same to H3 low beam also !!

give me some expert advice guys !!!!

@NANO - congrats man. My initial plan was to put in a low beam projector and high beam P220 reflector setup like you. Had shelved it for the time being. But now you are the encouragement for that; as soon as my finances are stabilized .
