I cant think of any reason for why it is bad for the engine!

It can harm the engine if the idle speed is too low. Otherwise, it is just fine.

            • Idling extensively is not the best thing to do for your engine! Firstly, most wear and tear is caused at start up. Even the cat con wont be functioning well. A lot of fuel (relatively speaking) is required too. Also the engine will be running at constant speed with no load. The engine will be unnecessarily going thru a hot and cold cycle. Batt will be stressed (esp. if its weak, if using electric starter) Etc., etc! Any more reasons you want? And all this mess, tp, expense and pollution just to check the oil??? Dosen't make one bit of sense.

Other things aside, if you keep checking oil this way quite frequently, just calculate how much fuel you have wasted and wear and tear caused in a month/year!

So , How harmful will it be if u ride it instead of an idle?

@racoon : Completely agree with you, I think your lines deserve to be printed on all 'owners' manual'

                  • I have been following the below method in the days when I owned CBZ -X.

Before starting the bike first time for the day. I use only the Kick Start, With ignition tuned off. Kick the bike few times like 5-6 times with clutch engaged and 5-6 times with clutch disengaged....alternate times. This helps the stagnant oil in the crank to push up into the engine and between the clutch plates and gears too. This helps engine to be pre-lubricated before it actually runs on its own.

Later I kick start the bike and keep it on idle for atleast 3-40 secs before starting the ride.

And not crossing 3500RPM for 3-4 kms.

This has been usefull mechanism for me.

Its not like there is no change in pick up. The bike had very good pick up with the Idemitsu oil as well. Motul gives better pick up but its not like its taken it to a different level. What definitely has gone to the next level is the ride quality. Its really butter smooth now.

                      • Actually the term ride quality is used as a collective term for the vehicle's handling + suspension and comfort characteristics. Not for what u say

Does your bike growl when racing with others .You hear that chhkk noise and it pulls really well.Agreed Motul + cbx = Unicorn-mono_suspension.

I did not know that Motul is such a good oil that it helps a bike to grow a mono!

Never ripped my bike so dunno what exactly you meant there. But I totally agree on the last equation.

Hey i just saw your blog i cannot believe it that blog(My cbx @ 7500km) and a guy performing a wheelie on youtube on cbx brainwashed me into buying this bike i was not even a xbhpian then. Thanks for the tip i will do that once my back heals.

Had a chance to cruise along with a GS150 it was new, the guy tried to race with me(Bad idea). It failed to catch up once i opened the throttle i had to close the throttle to let it come closer. The engine block itself looks huge but the front disc looks tiny.No matter how hard he tried he could not beat me.But the console looked neat. The suzuki was screaming the engine looked like it was straining too much.I am sure
the SC guys raped that bike poor guy.
