  • Problem after changing air filter

    Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum. I have a problem with me Xtreme.

It has done 12k now and is less than an year old. I've recently got a K&N filter replaced for the stock one.

After the change the pickup in intial RPM's is good but now I find the bike spluttering after 80kmph. It isn't going further than that.

Has anyone come across this problem and if yes what can be done to rectify this and get my bike to smooth riding with higher pickup.

    Thanks,
    Dennis

Guess ur bike is running lean. Retune ur Carb and check if the K&N is properly fitted.

Thats what I guessed earlier and opened up the screw for mixture a bit. Now the spark plugs getting carbon over it.

Could it be something to do with the main jet? Do you think it needs replacement or something?

        Thanks,
        Dennis

R15 unleashes the beast inside it only after 7k RPMs. And then it just surges ahead.

I generally ride at around 100 KMPH mark. I don't mind just anyone overtaking me. But of they play around... cars or bikes... I tend to slow down a bit and then let them overtake...

Sometimes, when the road is clear and if the other guy is still dancing around, I revv up and make sure I overtake them at speeds over 125 KMPH... that's it, they don't come back! At that time they'd be struggling to cross 105 or 110 KMPH or finding it tough to handle the speed and if you overtake and take good move ahead faster they mostly don't attempt the feat.

              • Hydbiker i can picture it in my mind very clearly. The R15 i raced takes just a few seconds to tear through the 100Km/hr mark.125km/hr should be real easy.I am 99% sure it was not running on expensive synthetic oil.
On the freeway you have no other choice but to respect the R15's power .

The castrol bike zone guys replaced the disc pads of my XTREME it costs R150 only. The barking too has become XTREME .How could a cheap pad like this blow away the original pads which are @ least 3 times costlier. What i am saying is that the OEM pads are not bad but they SUCK.After the CBZ guys cleand the rear brake assembly it has become like the legendary yamaha DRUM brakes.

Go for Maintainence free ones buddy. Exide is good.

                    • ^^^Exide is the worst. They dont last, and they leak! Exide has also corroded the metal around it in my bike.

The totally sealed Amaron is the best. No hassles of acid spillage, long warranty and long life. Second best might be something like Base Terminal (Panasonic), etc. Just stay far away from Exides!!!

                        • ^^^Hmmm... if i remember correct, replacement warranty is for 2.5 years and the next 2.5 years carries a pro-rata discount. This is the longest battery warranty in India.

If you buy any non-sealed battery make v sure the dealer dosen't rape it by filling distilled water above the MAX. mark.

and don't try that with a speeding Karizma or a P220 either

Did you check the brand of those disc pads? to my knowledge Uni, Xtreme, Hunk, Acheiver, Pulsars use the same type and KBX was the OEM supplier. Now a days Honda is taking OEM pads from ASK. Both of them can be bought in the market for between Rs 100 - 130.

Any snaps of old or new pads would be useful in this research

Agree with u on the leaking part buddy

It has corroded the Rear Footpeg assembly in my bike too

But coming to charge retention and general performance i think Exide is not so bad!

                              • ^^^All the Exides I'v used (car and bike both) have given me trouble in all ways. Charge retention and general performance are obvious problems too, since they don't last. And whats the use of anything else when the thing spoils your bike?
