Regarding the spark plug, I think the manual recommends a change at 10/12K kms. You could stick with the stock NGK Conventional plug or change over to NGK GPower. Please visit the Spark Plugs thread for more details.

    • Thanks Raccoon for the reply.

With regards to the oil filter, I'm planning to switch to Gulf Pride 4T plus 10W30 from the HH mineral oil. Does the oil filter change become necessary in this case?

Also, let me know what I can do to improve the lighting in my bike w/o blowing up the electricals.

      • ^^^No, as I mentioned, its not necessary to change it. Just see that it is cleaned well in petrol (with the cent. filter). The cleaning is v imp. to get rid of particulate matter... not for the oil! Don't worry about the filters regarding oil changes. Its not like it is in cars! However, advantage of getting it cleaned just before the oil change is that you can get ALL the old oil out.

As for the lighting... I dont see what you can do unless you wanna go for a coil winding or something...

        • Raccoon and Sarvajit: thanks a lot for ur help.

Any idea where I can get Gulf Pride 4T in Chennai?

          • I guess this has been mentioned earlier... perhaps in the oil thread - if you can't find it anywhere just go to Gulf Oil's website and contact their marketing officer/regional office/etc... they will tell you.

              i got 50+.

On orkut one guy says if u pt cd100 carb on the cbz u can getr 70+km/lt
              is this true.

Got hold of the SAE 90 OIL for the chain it was castrol manual gear oil

When I ripped my R15 on the highway at 120-130 continuously it gave me 36 (in city itself I get 43), but on cruising between 80-100 it returned an amazing 48. Checked it multiple times to confirm!

Please don't do that-you will need to do a lot of different settings in the valves etc.as CD 100 is 100cc&CBZ is 150cc.

First of all, you don't need to check the oil level every day!
Secondly, oil level varies with heat of the engine. Its best advisable to check it after idling for sometime. If it is too hot also it may not show correct reading.
Also, don't forget to keep the bike upright i.e., on main stand while checking oil level.

P.S. My friend will be transferring the amount to your account asap.

No, you will have to drain the oil. Actuall you can put the drained oil back in the engine... but I would never do that - the probability for contamination is too high.

Ideally you should warm up the bike for a couple mins before checking the oil level. Its not ment to be checked on a cold engine parked overnight or something. But I seriously dont have time for such things on most days... I check the level mebbe once a fortnight (I check for oil leakage on the floor/ground much more often) when the bike is cold, or just a bit warm. But then the level should be close to the max., to be safe. Mine always is and has been, and it works for me. Your usage is much higher, etc., so it may not be a good idea for you.

                  • Oh my god u wont believe this i already topped up the oil 2 times in the past 2000kms . total oil poured is 1130ml(have a measuring cup) exactly
my bike drinks this castrol power 1 racing .looks like i have to top it again. Grrr...my mech didnt check the compression thingy.

This is how i check the oil level:
1)pull the clutch and give 10 kicks(ignition off).

2)Put the choke lever ON and start the bike (10sec).

3)Then choke lever off but let it idle for 3-5 mins.

This is what i do every morning and oh i ride @ least for the first 2kms below 4k RPM.

@R15 rocks(kinda like this name) dont worry your stuff is going nowhere :

It is expected-bikes tend to 'drink' oil after touring at highspeeds for long durations!
You don't need to use choke every morning, you can simply start it normally, let it idle for a minute or so, then switch off&check oill level.

My bike never drank oil in its lifetime so far. Never topped up engine oil. Have done even 700km in a day.

So you had to add 230 ml oil as top-up during the 2,000 km you have covered on P1R??? That definitely not normal dude! Seems you bike is burning oil! You should get the compression tested properly. Do you see any other signs of compression loss? I guess it'll be difficult to compare since you are now using P1R... so best get it tested asap!

And yes, you really should not use choke unless the bike can't start without it. With regular use in warm climate, your bike should start without choke easily.

I dunno why you need the 10 kick thingy?! Also, what i do is let it warm up for about a minute and then ride quite slow for next 3 - 5 mins, gradually picking up speed. Idling for 5 mins?? Waste of fuel, if you ask me!

                            • Is the oil capacity 1 litre or 900 ml.? If its 900 ml. then a 230 ml. topup in 2K kms. is an indication of something amiss.

                              • May be his bike is getting more power by burning some oil too.

Sarbon-Oxley, my sincere suggestion is, if you are really ripping your bike all the time near 100's, please go and get some above 200cc bike. Do not torture the 150cc engine dude and try to extract a performance of a bigger engine.

I advise you to ride sanely at 80-90 kmph with smoother acceleration. That will give you more rewards.
