• Re: updates on my relay issue

Just came back from the SVC. Had the relay changed under warranty. Here are the details:

The old relay had rusted 'terminals' which might have attributed to this starting issue.
Part No: 35850KR3870S (Switch Assy. STARTMAG.)
Rate : 201.82
+ Vat @ 10%
Total = Free!!

Also, checked with my Uncle's new Classic 350 Royal Enfield and my Alto too about the lights dimming issue. Guess, I was neglecting the voltage drop point when considering the problem. Thanks Shoeb for the inputs.

Also made a video prior to this replacement. Note: The battery is brand new but the relay is the old one. Will test for the problem again next morning as that is when the bike gets the maximum 'rest' time overnight.

Any new xtreme/hunk owners please check and confirm whether the neutral light / the pilot light goes DIM momentarily when your crank the self-start?
Nope havent experienced that

Instead of tightening it everytime check if it needs replacement, my friend had a 2k used shine nd he was riding with loose chain for long time which damaged it so he had to replace the chain-sprocket set.

You can use grease to lube chain but it is kind of more stickier , you can very well use 80W90 gear oil for lubrication , lube once in 500km and clean completely in 1k-1.5k kms. Without lube chain runs dry and will get damage very easily . Earlier mechanics used to melt grease carefully and dip the chain inside it , that method ensured superb lubrication , not sure if anyone still does that.
After 6k kms , i changed oil to Gulf Pride 10w30. Now i realize why riazmomin was suggesting for this oil , it is smooth and silky for our engines , veedol was not available so i had to pick GULF. This oil is a very good substitute for veedol and is very smooth than oe oil .

You will get "philips 12636 35/35W germany" (not in same order) written on it. With no premium written, but that is premium. 12636 (is a philips part no.) means Philips Premium HS1 12V 35/35W PX43t.
I found Philips 12636-C1 bulb for Rs 100/-. Will get this installed soon.
RohIIT: I'm also using Gulf pride 4T 10w30 oil in my xtreme. This is a real VFM oil as it costs only Rs 200/- and I find it better than Shell AX7 10w40 which costs 300/-.

Changed to ANL pads for Unicorn (asbestos), costed Rs.160 for the pads. Asked for KBX, but was not available.
Bite is less now, hoping it'll improve with time.

Another thing that surprised me was, he showed me pads for Uni from NISSIN, costed only 150/- :O They were wrapped in a transparent polythene cover. I was not sure if it is original.
Starter motor uses loads of power to crank up the engine, that's why other electricals loose some power hence the dimming. You might have observed in the cars that all the electricals turn off when you turn the ignition so that all battery power is used for starter.

Standard disc brake pads cost Rs 350. I changed the ones on mine almost 6 months back with Bosch ones. Costs Rs 120 only and on par performance compared to standard ones.

Coming to engine oils. Gulf 10w30 is the best. Used it on both my xtremes for almost 90000kms. It provides most consistent performance when compared to all other premium and synthetic oils.

Problem in idealing, pickup got reduce, lot of stress and sound in engine. noticeable drop in mileage (from 52 to 43-45). I'm using Veedol super swift now. any solution guys. pls
First of all change your oil. 10w40 is bit thicker for xtreame and makes the engine becoming more hot and reduction in mileage. Go for 10w30 veedol take off.
Problem in idealing and reduction in acceleration means your mixture is very lean. I am sure your mechanic had fiddle with your carburettor tuning. So my recommendation is to get your carburettor adjusted by any good mechanic. And your problem will most likely to be solved by this. Also carburettor needs adjustment after spark plug & air filter change.

Also if you have got your chain adjusted recently, then check if it has a slack of 15-25mm if its tight then get it adjust.

At 6k changed oil to Gulf Pride 10w30 cost me Rs 220, MRP 260RS . Previously i used oe oil from various makes , Bharat petroleum being the worst , it becomes like hair oil in 500kms . As BloggingWheels said oil lasts for 1k i tried Savita make 2 times , it was better that BPCL , it was smooth till 800kms after which shifts became hard and idle was rough . Now i wanted to get a taste of semi synths , so tried searching for Veedol but was not available , so got the gulf . Initially it was no different than other , but after 50km i noticed engine idle is smooth and vibes are lower than before , the engine now revs easily to 4k . The engine note is slightly changed to more smooth sounding and easy on ears . Overall its a hell better than mineral . Also somehow my meter cover (black fibre) cracked in two pieces , need to figure it out . Coneset was tightened . as i travel over bad roads due to which it had become loose (also hit some bad potholes). I remember saying my ride vibrating a lot , and as others said i waited and changed oil at intervals , indeed it has smoothened a lot than before , easily hits 4k and goes mad after 5.5k . One thing i learnt is i keep bike on main stand , rotate wheel and keep my hand on seat or saree guard , if vibes are much then i proceed with chain cleaning or lubing , although it sounds goofy but it is something which i found to be correct sometimes .

This may sound odd but does removing the battery make the engine more free? I removed the battery from my kine few days back for charging nd while riding back without it the bike felt smoother and lesser strain I thought it was just my imagination nd today did the same for the uni nd noticed better acceleration the amount I rev normally to push off actually took me back a bit nd there was lesser vibes and bike was feeling smoother, its definitely not coz of decreased weight from battery so what could it be?

As mentioned a few posts back, I have had my battery changed under warranty. What I would like to point out here that on requesting the mechanic to apply some grease on the battery terminals to keep them moisture free, he replied that one did not need to cover the terminals in grease as it is a 'dry cell' (I don't think so. Or is it?) The battery terminals need to be greased only in wet cells. Somehow I am not convinced with the answer. If needed, is silicone grease the best thing to grease your terminals with?

Can anyone expand a little on this?

It is because the battery works as a voltage regulator. Without battery firing is more as these are DC CDI bikes which will increase the current. But one thing be sure you will damage the CDI. Never think about riding a DC CDI bike without battery as if luck is bad it will fry the CDI. If there is no battery then get a new battery by auto or taxi but never ride it without battery.

Your mechanic is correct as previously the acid fumes and leaking acid was main culprit of bolt corrosion.

But i would suggest you to cover them with vaseline petroleum jelly as it is better than grease.
