      .
I have mentioned my experience here in this thread itself that my bike also felt very rough after 1st service.
I was right beside the bike during the service and the mechanic was allowed only to touch the air filter, spark plug clean and adjust the chain after me checking the slack.
Carburetor or anything else was not touched but still the engine felt rough after the oil change.
I rode it somehow for the next 50kms and replaced the oil with genuine Hero 4T oil made by tide water. (Don't dispose off this oil which has done just 10KM, it can be used for some other purpose - say for topping up as most 10w30 oils come in a 900ml bottle )
I also removed the grease from the chain and lubricated it using SAE 90 gear oil. I don't know why these fools first grease the chain and then oil it. After cleaning the chain, rollers remain un-lubricated and a thick grease simply can't reach in there.

Xtreme simply doesn't like to run with a tight chain, at no point of time the chain slack should be less than 1 inch. 1 to 1&1/2 inch of slack should be maintained so that the gear slot in correctly. Too tight and it will simply jump into false neutral or bike vibrates like hell at high speeds.

Check the chain , replace the oil with Hero 4T made by tide water or Veedol Take off premium 10w30 and report back.

      @All xtreme/hunk onwers

Please remove the tank cowls and apply a thick coat of wax at the mounting brackets to prevent rust.
If you have time and love your bike then remove the tank and apply a thick coat of wax on the lower side and seam of the tank. Don't buff it off, use waxpol autopolish(comes in a orange tin can).

You have been royally looted and nothing else. A camshaft will in no way cost this much. At the most will cost Rs.1000. I will ask the price and then report back here. Usually the rocker arm bearings wear out and they needs to be changed and cost only Rs.277 for each rocker. Cam shaft bearings never wear out. At most of time camshaft wears out and it is only when no oil or oil pump failure. Even if your engine runs on low oil then also it will not wear out so soon.

Welcome to the gang, enjoy the power of your extreme. Most importantly check the way she is run for 5k kms and your bike is ready to serve you long.first 500km- less than 4.5knext 500 km- less than 5knext 1000 km- less than 6k with occasional burst to 7knext 2000 km - less than 7k with occasional burst to 7.6k(100 kph)And i know how exciting its feel when bringing home a new bike. It is more exciting to just stare at the new bike parked outside house gleaming in light.

After 4oo KM, Gear shift was not proper, i had faced many false shifting, but then my friend told it will be resolved in first service. As like he said after my first service Gear Shifting was smooth, but then other problems were identified1) Whenever i ride for more than say 10 KM, Engine becomes so rough, such that i cant ride the bike , particularly @ 45 - 65 KMPH the bike became so worse that vibrations were so much my hands will become NUMB (An accident would have almost happened due to this . I m just alive because still i feel my bike loves me )2) But the engine power remained same like even at the rough time, when i go past 70 KMPH bike became smooth, but riding in chennai city, its impossible to go in that speed always.3) Reported the same to service center, first they accepted that Bike has too much of vibrations and roughness. I m just telling them in simple manner.First 5 KM -> Super Smooth RideNext 5 KM -> Roughness of the engine startsAfter 10 KM -> Lot of vibrations and roughness felt (btw 45KMPH to 65 KMPH). Engine sound becomes different and i am hearing some rolling kinda sound which was not existing before. But still they were unable to identify what is the problem.Seeing my RAJ (my Bike name) like this, i m feeling like hell. I m not good at Bike Mechanisms, but then following are the things i followed1) I didnt RIP my bike anytime2) Checked Engine OIL level3) Asked mechanic to check Air Filter and to check carb.Serviced in "Adyar Motors, Chennai".Please help me in this problem. After all I love my Raj.
As shoeb has replied and he has replied exceedingly well. Change the engine oil to hero bottle oil of tide water or to Veedol take off 4T premium 10W 30. Your vibration problems will vanish. The barrel oil is the worst you will get. Here SVC always uses bottle oil from Hero pack. In servicing i just let them change engine oil, clean air filter, adjust the chain, and wash the bike. All other works i do on my own or do it from my mechanic.

UPDATES:-There has been a lot of updates in my bike which i have not mentioned.First of all my bike has crossed 18k mark and is running at an average of 2k every month.

Rear shock absorber- My bikes right side rear shock was leaking oil, and each side shock cost Rs. 1900. Warranty was not applicable as i have missed a service in February as i had my banks training then. I wrote to Hero and although they couldn't give warranty as because of service history but they were kind enough to give me 30% discount on new shock-absorber. Not only they gave discount on the replacement of faulty one but also replaced the other one at 30% discount. So i got changed both the rear shock at 30% discount.

Rocker arm:- My bike was making an irritating noise from the rockers when heated so i went to my mechanic. He opened the head cover and checked that the roller bearings on the rocker arms were having play which was causing the sound. So changed the rocker arms.

Also the camshaft holder which holds the head cover, the threads were gone as that holder is made of aluminum and has only two threads to hold the head cover. While opening the head cover bolts the threads just strip. Fitting a new cam shaft holder is also no good as the new holder cost Rs. 450 and the same problem will occur. So opened the holder and took it to lathe. He made a larger thread of the hole where the nut from head cover goes, and then fitted a brass bush with araldite by screwing it in the larger hole. Then he drilled the brass bush and made No. 10 thread with Tape. And he did it so excellent that it feels like pre-fitted from factory. Next time i open will post photos. Cost was only Rs.120 and will last life time.

Handle racer- Since i travel through bad roads my racer set was gone at 16k. Moreover the OE set will not last more. So what i did was change to SKF racer. Handle is smooth and that cornering on rails confidence is back. Have scrapped the pegs twice on turns.

Engine oil- Changed the engine oil to Veedol take off 4T premium 10W 30. Bike became super smooth and also sound has gone so smooth that at idle i fail to notice if engine is on unless i look at tachometer. Has run more than 2k and oil is showing no signs of fatigue. Will change this sunday. This is the first time i used Veedol 10W 30 and it is superb.

Warning:- Never ever use 20W 40 in extreme as it will cause the bike to feel sluggish, eat of fuel economy, wear out the bore and also crankshaft will wear out quick. I had used once and within 200 km change it to 10W 30.
Now we are getting many options in 10W 30 and also quality oil:-
Starting from low cost to high:-
        1. Hero oil from tide- Rs.200.
        2. Veedol take-off 10W 30- Rs.210(excellent oil and is semi synthetic).
        3. Gulf 10W 30- Rs. 230.
        4. Motul 3000 4t 10W 30- Rs.230( excellent oil)
        5. ELF MOTO 4 ECO 10 W 30- Rs. 230.
        6. Honda throttle 10 w 30- Rs. 500(synthetic)
        7. Motul 5100 10 w 30- Rs. 535.
        8. Motul 7100 10 W 30- Rs. 750
        .

Prices are different as i get it from my friend and enjoy massive discount on the oils.

Another warning is get the tappets adjusted as soon as it makes noise. My tappets were ringing and i didn't get time to adjust as a result the rocker bearings were gone for good.

            Hi Sibun,
It would be really helpful if you can share the part no. and price of SKF racer set for xtreme.
I am also experiencing some vertical play in handle during hard braking or going through bad roads.

So I went to my Mech today for the sewing machine like noise from engine, he says the tappets are fine and highly recommends me to shift my engine oil from Motul to valvoline, is that oil really that good? Has anyone here tried both?

                  Hi guys,

Due to bad experience form svc I made sure the DYI is the best option.

My ride passed 20K last day should be around 20,100 now.

                  History :
all services except 1 done as per recomented on service book within +/-500KM
replaced spark plug and Filter 8K ago, I think its time for new one?
Oil changed about 500KM ago, Castrol Active 20W40, : Was good oil, low vibration but last ride about 250km, the vibration reappered
                  Cold start problem :
morning : need to apply choke, engine will start at 2500rpm, let it go for 15sec,
rpm goes to 35000, close choke then apply throttle about 20% quickly but engine stalls
open up 50% or more quickly, it comes to life.
it gave me good start with out choke on morning while odo was 10k and it gradually came to current condition
evening ; it rests in shade for 10~12 hrs, some times it starts, but some times it needs choke.
I think choke is required only when petrol is less than 1l above reserve level

I am hearing phew phew (air) sound form the engine, Its after last oil change. Does change in oil grade or brand change sound?

Please advice me what should I do?
I think replacing air filter and spark plug + a carb cleaing will fix the cold start problem

There is a oil filter inside? should we clean it/ replace it like air filter? does svc clean it on the regular service?

The rear GRS shocks cost around 4000 together?

I have seen many Hunk owners complaining about GRS shocks getting hard very soon.
Recently I had noticed a Hunk running on Pulsar shocks. May be that guy didn't want to go for these costly ones which are getting kaput so early.

Do you have any specific reason going for 20w40 oil?

When on choke if you twist the throttle, the engine stall. It is natural for the Xtreme. Happens on both my Xtreme.
Choke helps in sending more petrol into the carburetor, which is usually used for cold starts or starting the bike after quite a few days.

I strongly suggest you to change the oil to stock grade 10w30. I suggest to go for Gulf 10w30 or Veedol 10w30 (as suggested by other members).
Make sure the air filter intake is not blocked which is under the seat. And dont touch the carburetor unless it is end of the world for the bike.

As I said earlier too, do not go for heavy oils, they are not good for crankcase and the engine. Bike vibrates more and often there is mileage fall or loss of oil.

There will be little change in the exhaust note depending on oil. Switch to stock oil grade and see the difference.

I will put of my detailed experience with Stock HH oil, Gulf 10w30 and other Oils (Motul and Shell).

Hi Shoeb, for the last 200 KM, my bike is not so rough, but i dono how suddenly it became smoother, may be as you guys said, it will be better day by day. But i have found that Gear shift became hard when riden @ congested traffic, like for example sometimes from 4th to 5th gear the shift happens like "tik tik" and at times only a smooth "tik", what may be the problem?.
I have given the Bike for second service in the same ASS. Told them to top up the OIL (HERO recommended 10W30 oil from Tide) and also asked them to lubricate the Chain (I know they wont). I m trying to learn it, such that i will do it myself for my RAJ.

Today when i leave the bike in ASS, one guy was fighting over there asking them to do the service in front of him, for that service guy harassed him in front of all saying "Oh ya, you wanna see what we do, ok come with lunch box for 2 days, it will take 2 days, leave all your work and come" in a mocking tone. All the service guys with the Head, just laughed uncontrollably. Also a 10 year old boy is test riding all the serviced bike and i was like
After this service, i will put my review.
Now my bike has Hard suspension at Rear, , I am just thinking y not Hero provide with Mono cross suspension.

                              @All
I did not take my xtreme for 2nd service and opted out of warranty. It was a difficult decision but I let it go as I simply can't bear the mechanics at ASC.
Called a stockist, he said they have "COIL ASSY.IGN. 30500-KVN-971" not "COIL ASSY. IGN 30500-KVN-900" The bike was purchased before October, 2010. The new parts are same and they are interchangeable, right? Just part number change.

I too service all my bikes, I am sure as hell I know better than those mechanics at ASC. I just need a few more tools and I'll have enough to open up a workshop :P
                              I am back!
