nightwing, it seems your bike may have some issues. i have been riding the first version glady for more than 2 years now. i have never noticed anything you have said here. power comes a bit higher up the rev. sure it does feel slow if you have a 90+ pillion that i sometimes have when going back from office. i have to rev it a lot more.
i had once done a cochin to bangalore trip with my cuzn. i weight bot 70 n he weighs 85+. we could cruise at 80 comfy wherever the roads allowed us.
i have a k&n and upjetting, but still, i dont think the glady would behave like what you have told.

Where should I take it? Whenever I turn up at the Yamaha SC,they take a test ride and declare everything's fine and functional.
      They loathe me now.
I will be taking the bike for my second servicing(in Lucknow) in the Castrol Bike Zone soon. It's now clocking 14k. Let's see if they can work out a solution. And I hope what you are saying about the Gladiator is right. I hope it can do 80 while taking two pillions because I haven't seen that figure ever.

P.S.: What model of K&N are you using and what is the jet size?

the SC guys did a good job during the first year of my owning the glady.. later it deteriorated. maybe they had become busy with the new launches n stuff... anyways, i dont go there anymore. i try local mechs. have tried many. none of them too good, but its ok since i have not had any thing to repair on the bike other than oil change, lubrication and tuning (touchwood) .
regarding the k&n... the SC guys had done it for me (they dont do it now). i dont know the model. its the universal conical type, ie. fits any bike (i guess). no idea bot the jet size either. wish i knew to help out a galdy.

That's amazing.I only get that much on my runs to the college which involves 20kms of highway and 5kms of city traffic.
If I rip it or run the bike in city traffic, the mileage drops to 45.
So technically a K&N-ed Gladiator with jetting gives better mileage. Wohoo...... I am getting hold of a K&N from somewhere.
I hope Lucknow starts having xbhp G2Gs so that I could steal someone's K&N.

k&n does not affect your mileage. i would not say it will increase your FE.
but since the bike becomes more drivable, i tend to change gears lower down the rev, so maybe thats helping the mileage figure. dont know how much it would fall in case of some rippin.

mind you, i have only checked mileage twice on this bike (i dont mind about 3/4 kms +/- given that the bike is doing good)... also, i did not rip when i was checking mileage.

                  Hi Frnds and bikers....

Luks like Im the only Gladitator SS owner here..... So here's my experience with my Gladiator SS....

Its been 6 months of satisfacation and pride when I drive my Gladiator...I am the first owner of the black Gladiator for Hyderabad city, becuase when i went to collect my bike(original choice was red and silver), i was in for a surprise when the Yamaha guys told me that they just recieved the black model in the morning and they will put it up for display after monday. Whats more good news is I got it at no extra cost, whereas the showroom guys say it could cost 2000 rs more. So now Im a proud owner of a Yamaha Gladiator SS. I saw TVS Apache and Pulsar guys staring at my bike in awe and makes me feel proud. Looks rocking and awesome man....Now the actual stuff. The bike is really good, both variants ss and RS. Though there are no technical differences in these 2 bikes, one wonders whats the difference between Racing sports and Sporty style, lets hope the heads at Yamaha would know. Apart from that they are really good solid bikes.

You can expect the power of Yamaha and the durability of the engine with a warranty of 30000kms and 15 services of which 8 are absolutely free. Its a bit of pity that its a 125 cc bike and very light weight, but it suits me as Im thin and 6ft tall. The mileage specified is 75, though in actual city conditions its giving between 50-60kmpl as per my survey of 5-6 yamaha gladiator users. you can get the other specs from Yamaha site. The gear system is Yamaha type, 1 down 4 up and its very sporty and the first 125 cc to come with 5 gears. U can bike around at 20kmph even in 5th gear. This was a first time. Also its the first 125cc to sport a tachometer and a 2piece handle. Great and precise braking. You wouldnt find the pain or fear of disc braking here.

                  Some precautons for new Gladis...
The bike needs to be driven for the 1st 1000kms under 4000rpm and 35kmph as per company norms. This tunes the engines life and performance. So all new gladiator owners take care of this. Also donot use your self start for the first 50-100 kms and keep it to minimal in the 1st 1000kms. Always kick start the bike first time you start it.

                  Day1:
Bike looks kool to drive and feels like a feather. The only con to point out is the rear wheel but I think its gonna help me in accelaration and mileage. Now I have completed a 50km drive, the gears seem good. So good and smooth is the engine u can drive in 20kmph in 5th gear without any hitches. Well actually I was advised by Yamaha guys to drive within 40 for first 1000kms. Awww... God... but i could feel the bike asking me to push past 40kmph when i was reaching a speed of 30kmph, there is literal pull from the engine in 5th gear when ur touching 40kmph. Great. Braking seems solid. Only con, the bike seemed to skid on a thick layer of sand.... not sure if its due to rear wheel... apart from this suspicion, handling is awesome, trust me u can all do the stunts shown by the guys in the Yamaha ad, the bike bends, turns twists and all this wihtout giving you any jerks and ever so smoothly u wanna do it all the time..... Enjoy.....

                  After 2 services:

Gladi rocks guys...Everyone asks me whch bike is this boss? whch company India???( till late untill R15 and FZ16 spoiled all the fun...) and when i say Yamaha, they are struck with awe and when I explain the features, i luk at them, and can say from their faces, the mistake they did in choosing their own bikes..hahahah...Ok,i have the last laugh.

Ok I have so far completed 2 services... 2000kms done... so now i know what my bike can do... and cant... What my bike can do is, it can give me gud mileage, std at 56kmpl, can give me great steering and driving comfort, handling is an ultimate pleasure, fantastic braking and gud post-braking experience. It also gives me excellent pickup past 40kmph... nd i bet it will give a run for money to any 150cc. What it cant do is.. it cant give me the brute force of some 150 cc bikes, initial pickup is low( mind u its only till it reaches 40kmph), it cant pull anythng beyond 150kg...so for pleasure of driving the bike drive single, or when driving doubles make sure your maintaining the proper gears and speed. The back wheel hasnt let out a i expected, so I was wrong over there, but im glad i was wrong.

Gladi is 53k on road, has great looks. So, the overall rating of this bike?? You can see it yourselves... . so enjoy Gladiing...

                    thanks for the report vijaywithu.
congragulations on the bike and thanks once again for posting.
It is really true that the Gladi is not like any other 125CC bikes...Its a Yamaha after all.
Anyways please take a few precautions. Just somethings to look after -Watch out for your rear brake light illuminating once the ignition key is in ON position without starting engine.
That means your battery will be drained soon and electric starter will not work. Well this is what happened to my Gladi. battery can go crazy.

Anyways enjoy riding, touring, cornering and braking your Gladi. They are really good.

Take care, ride safe and look after the Gladi.

@Vijay: U have made a good choice. My Glady is more than 2 years old. Just had one bad experience with electrical wiring, but overall I am satisfied.

@Nightwing: 80s on a Glady is not at all a problem. Just make sure that your tyre pressurre is correct. Whenever I feel that there is lack of power, I get my tyre pressure checked and everything is back to normal. Just make sure that you do this when the tyres are in cold condition. I am getting a mileage of 43-45 in my daily commute in traffic.

The tyre pressure is normal.I cant tell you how many times I checked.
Anyway,I will get the problem checked out at Yamaha SC and Castrol BZ both to make sure. My bro too is adamant that the bike could do sixty-seventy easily with a heavy pillion. Let's see how things turn out.
I have another query.I changed my spark plugs(which had completely burnt out to black) to NGK Iridium IX. Yesterday I noticed that the spark were leaking out of the cover and sparking on the engine's body.
Will this harm the bike in anyway? Should I get a new wire kit? I have taped the cover as a temporary fix.

One more query. Have you seen the SC mechanic service the drum brakes? Does he take out the brake shoe and scapes it with a file?

help please... this is not a galdiator specific query....
my front breaks (disc) have become very hard.... meaning, the break lever used to work so smooth and had a good feeling when breaking. now it feels hard n doesnt give any feedback.... guess am making myself clear...
showed a mech... he did something, it was better for 2 days, now it again the same....
                          what has to be done??

Check the oil level, disc pads. clean disk without any dust, mud, cables, tightness of lever.
                            well, check everything
                            Hmm...not a very helpful suggestion, I guess!!!

Guys I touched 105 KMPH on my Gladi (speedo).
Just somehow everything fell into place, good road, good straight stretch, half crouching and the bike just kept on accelerating...It was really nice...

                              post service

                              Guys

got a good service done from the service centre.
                              Rs.506/- total charge.
                              the items changed are -

                              filter rotary
                              gasket cover
                              engine oil
                              damper clutch
                              grommet
                              puller chain sub assy
                              fr stop switch
                              ( just copied from the bill..ok!!! )

Bike really good now. feels a little heavy though, (mental feelings??)think it may feel nimble after some more running in, it is smooth now. but otherwise the ride, the engine noise, brakes all are feeling good. but actually really need to get out of city traffic . it is terrible.
just cant open her up and in city you guys would know, our gladi is like a tube light, opening up after a long time.just cant find the road.

whats a damper clutch? did u have any clutch issues?
am asking cos my clutch has become jerky... it still light to use but jerks sometimes.... SC guys have not been able to solve it, they do some adjustment, for 2 days its fine then again same issue...
i think the V1 galdys had a weak clutch, and the city traffic takes it toll too...
Dasco, which place are you from?
