Did You install the spark plug which is recommended in the manual?
The recommended one is NGK CR7HSA
    The possibilities could be:
    1. The bike is running too lean
    2. Clogged jets
    3. Incorrect gapping of the spark plug
    4. Dirty air filter
    5. Clogged fuel lines
Thats all I can think of. Seniors did I miss something?

Ride the bike for few kms and remove the sparkplug and check the color. The color should be dark tan.

    Help

    Need your help guys.

My gladiator is having one peculiar problem. Recently I had to change the spark plug since the old one died. Since then the bike while on the run seems to turn off the oil supply suddenly (don't know how to put it), same feeling you have when your bike hits reserve. I have filled almost 5 liters of petrol also and driven, the issue comes up intermittently. Its like the bike is choking on something. There is also no drop in pickup and accelerates well.

Strangely the issue is not frequent and sometimes after prolonged running also wont come up. I took the bike to mechanic but on that day bike was behaving good and so failed to identify the problem. I am at my wits end now. Don't know what to do.
    Please suggest any possible cause.

Yesterday I asked a mechanic about the adjustment and he said that my shocks were not adjustable, and the 5 grooves present in the shock absorber were for height adjustment.

I have Gabriel units, the ones present as standard on the Yamaha. They feel extremely stiff. My brother has a 2011 SZ-R and his shocks are way softer than mine. Although he is not sure about the adjustment, he has the same Gabriel units on his bike.

Please tell me if the shocks are actually adjustable or are those grooves meant for height adjustment? If they are not adjustable, how can I make them softer? My mechanic suggests manually working out the coil springs so that they become softer.
Well those groves are for the adjustment of shocker only (softness). Go to another mech & ask him to adjust the shocker to softer position. Its an easy job. Any mech knows it.

I don't have a paper type air filter. Changed to a foam filter long back. I guess been around 1 and half years now since i have had a foam filter. There are no hassles getting a foam filter. I am not sure about the original price of the paper filter. I remember in 2008, these filters would cost a grand. But later they dropped the prices considerably.

I second that. It wont do much good. Plus you'll need a good mechanic to get the air/fuel mixture just right. Even i had plans of putting a k&n long back but my mechanic advised me against it.

I have myself used the k&n earlier on the gladi, didn't like the loud intake note. Later switched back to the stock one.

I got myself a used 2008 Gladiator RS last weekend which had clocked around 27000kms. A short review:

Although the body was shining as new, the engine was in a pathetic state when I bought it. Got a full service including a change of air filters, Castrol Power1 15W40 lube (thanks to advice from some members here on xBHP) and the works.

Have covered 1000 Kms over the last week, here are my impressions:
    1. Top speed: 95kph with my payload (I weigh just short of 90kgs)
    2. Mileage: Before service: 31 KpL | After service: 43 KpL

    Pros:
Comfort, seating posture, power, handling, reliability

    Cons:
    Nothing much really.

Looking forward to being a part of this community.

Oh, and if you are wondering - I am based in Bangalore.
Welcome to the forum. I have a 2008 Model Gladiator too. However, mine is a black/red SS.

You will have to change ur jets tto account for the increase in air flow. Otherwise ur bike will run too lean.

    Guys plz help.
Obviously the airfilter needs to be cleaned irrespective of what bike You ride. If Your bike has a paper air filter then, remove the airfilter from the bike, tap it gently to loosen the dirt and blow compressed air from inside. If it has a foam air filter then it needs to washed with solvent and allowed to dry and then apply 2t oil before installing.

    Engine oil

My bike is due for an oil change, so what would be the recommended oil. Do we need to stick to the grade mentioned in the manual (20w40) and I would appreciate if someone can tell me what type SG means. I am planning to go for the fully synthetic oil.
