The 15W40 (recommended) is a thinner oil while the 15W50 (can be used but not recommended by company) is relatively a thicker oil.Originally posted by sriram_r View Post

If it s not recommeded by the company why did the SVC guy claimed the 15 W50 that is currently being used for the fazer can be used in gladiator also.. what are they gaining by mis-guiding me in this case...
But at 6000RPM i could sense the engine is producing additioanl whirring notes (is it common - or could be a outcome of the change to a new engine blood)

Well they do use the oil in my service center also. But its NOT at all recommended by the company (see manual). In rare cases it might result in the oil pump getting jammed.Originally posted by sriram_r View PostIf it s not recommeded by the company why did the SVC guy claimed the 15 W50 that is currently being used for the fazer can be used in gladiator also.. what are they gaining by mis-guiding me in this case...

Madhav, Wing....
I would have ridden hardly 120 kms now... what do i do now.. shift to castrol power 1 as per night's advice asap (tomm)... was sad to hear some negative effects being played by the 50 oil in gladi.....
Thanks for providing me nightwing's experiences .. i was in fact searching for it all day and could not find it.. thanks again
Awaiting for your replies.. to take prompt action....

Well since you have already put the oil dont change it. Nightwing has used the oil for a long time & still dint faced any sort of BIG problem. I would recommend to use that oil till next 3000kms. The oil jamming problem will be only on prolonged usage. Once a while shouldnt create any problem IMO. If you will change the oil now then it will just make your wallet more lighterOriginally posted by sriram_r View PostMadhav, Wing....

I have been using the Motul 5100 15w50 for a while now since I havent come across any alternative that is available locally. Rest assured that it wont harm your bike in any, atleast from my experience it hasnt. Why am I using the wrong oil? Because a new yamaha mechanic turned the engine oil nut the wrong way and the screw threads are ruined. So now my bike leaks all the time. Have tried a lot to get it mended but the leak persists. I had a spare bottle of Motul lying around that I use to top the oil level every 5 days.Originally posted by sriram_r View PostMadhav, Wing....

Dont change the oil if you arent facing any problem. Switch to the right grade during your next service

Thanks Night and Madhav and hey sorry for my late replies..
@Night: How long did you use motul 15w50 ? was it semisynth ? you suggested me that choose the right grade of oil? Here are you advicing me to change the stock oil now used by the SVC or a semisynth oil but in a different grade..
now that my bike has run 4000 plus can my next oil change be castrol power 1 racing 15W40 (you had mentioned earlier)
For your oil leak problem, can you figure out if you can change the crankcase alone (bottom part of engine alone), if you have some budget why not talk to the factory guys in saharnpur and ask them maybe through some dealership to source one in order to take out the worry of topping it once in 5 days..maybe a painful sight to see your bike dripping down.
@madhav: At what mileage did you change to full synth.. have you ever used semisynth... what is the longterm impact in using full synth oil in gladi.. i think its only for enigne which run in much higher rpm i guess..
With a pillion rider in what RPM cut off do you switch gears like 1st gear - 4000 rom, 2nd in 4000/5000 etc??

What I am saying is,if you cant afford to,dont change the oil. Change it in your next service.
I have already talked to the Yamaha dealer. That engine case is being backordered for the past 3 months. Also paid an advance but no sign on that part.sigpic

Ok .. Can you suggest me alternative oil if i say i am ready for a change right away...
In fact I spoke to a castrol dealer and he says he can give me the castrol power one racing 4t oil for 275 bucks.. which is not too much a cost...could you confirm whether 275 rupees is what it costs
Do you want me to enquire regarding the bottom casing.. maybe if i succeed i can courier you and you can wire transfer ..

I changed my oil to a full synthetic very early at 4000kms. I have used only two oils in my bike. Those are yamalube mineral (previously) & AGIP Racing 4T full synth (current one). I have never used any semi synth in my bike till now. Full synth oils have a lot more benefits like better stability & performance in cold starts. These oils are definetly better than the minerals. These are economical also since they last much longer. BTW our glady's engine is a free revving engine. Isnt it??Originally posted by sriram_r View Post@madhav: At what mileage did you change to full synth.. have you ever used semisynth... what is the longterm impact in using full synth oil in gladi.. i think its only for enigne which run in much higher rpm i guess..

I donot have any specific riding technique. I ride according to my mood. But in most cases i shift to second gear from first gear as soon as possible. After that i usually shift the gears at 4500rpm.
I would suggest to use oil like motul, agip, petronas. I would recommend to give the castrol the preference after these oils.Originally posted by sriram_r View PostOk .. Can you suggest me alternative oil if i say i am ready for a change right away...

Anyways the castrol power one costs 275 bucks & castrol power one racing costs around 700 bucks.NOT BEEN THERE NOT DONE THAT

HI MAdhav,
Thank you v much for the replies. how much does your oil cost... but as such night has already used a semisynth oil before and not sure what oil he is using currently.. if he uses full synth then in that case his bike would have tasted all the three flavours, but i guess night would be the one to answer which oil the bike likes the best...
Do you have any web link, URL of the oil (possible by a dealer or from the agip website) of the oil you are currently using for the bike...
Here when we switch oils... how do we ensure the oil residues are washed out... can we drain the old oil first... pump some petrol inside the chamber, start the bike once to collect all the oil residues from moving parts and flush out before re-filling new oil... will this work out.. (We used to do this for RX135's)...
1. Is this the oil you are talking about (Web link given below)..where it says "For use in highly modified multi-valve engines"
2. As you claim gladi is free revving engine, what is the cut off rpm for each gear..means can i rev upto 7000 rpm in each gear?
... will the bike be happy?

Nope as of now there are no such web link with me.Originally posted by sriram_r View PostDo you have any web link, URL of the oil (possible by a dealer or from the agip website) of the oil you are currently using for the bike...
Well i dont think it would be a wise decision with 4strokes where the engine oil si used for virtually all sorts of lubricating purpose. I can result in some unwanted results.Originally posted by sriram_r View PostHere when we switch oils... how do we ensure the oil residues are washed out... can we drain the old oil first... pump some petrol inside the chamber, start the bike once to collect all the oil residues from moving parts and flush out before re-filling new oil... will this work out.. In RX i guess you are talking about the gear oil.
Well even in castrol it says "for use in racing bikes". So do we use it for racing bikes only?? The answer is NO. Similarly this oil also can be used in our bikes without ANY problem.Originally posted by sriram_r View Post1. Well when i ride the bike aggressively i do take it to rpms as high as 7k. My bike never complained about it until am taking care of it properly like getting it serviced at proper intervals etc. But still its not a good practice to take it at such high rpms if you want really long life of your vehicle.Originally posted by sriram_r View Post2.
