Yes it would be available. Ask them for the gear oil used in cars. Pick the one with SAE90 & not the one with SAE140. Virtually its available at all the engine oil stores.

    • @madhav update on your SVC update... i am still continuing to use the 15W40 semisynth as used for the FZ and R15 and my riding is mostly sane riding and not high speed..

can i use my bike for long rides with this oil in place..

First ten months - used regular yamalube 20W40 as per SVC POLICY.
Since Jan 2011 using 15W40 yamalube semisynth that is originallly intended for r15.
April 2011 - Again instructed SVC to use the same oil as replacement..

The concerns for which i opted for the same on instead of full synth :

      1. Again engine will have to get adjusted to the new oil..
      2. Whether changing oil in such frequent intervals will harm the internals.

Nope not unless u change the rims. U can only put an 18 inch tyre.

Hey, back after a long time on this thread.

So how are everybody's gladiators doing? I have been facing a weird problem first time this summer. Bike stalls because of the tank over heating i guess. Have to open the filler knob for sometime. Only then the bike comes back to life.

            • Hi prashanth,

How are you doing, Hope you are keeping well and so is your bike.. How did you pinpoint the issue that tank over heating is happening and how could it happen? when riding non stop in hot sun ?? or some other reason.. running lean etc ?

Will keeping the filler cap open not make the fuel to evaporate ?

              • ^^^ Well, I don't really know how it happens. Its not when im riding the bike, but happens after i have parked the bike in a sunny place. The bike runs fine and then suddenly stops. It does not start after that. But, just opening the fuel cap for a few seconds and closing it. Solves the issue

                • Hi Guys, My first post on Xbhp, so I m excited.
I own a Gladi SS 2009. I have driven it over 12000 km and I am quite happy with the performance. But there is something I would like to discuss. How is the high speed riding on your Gladi's. I mean I always feel the engine becomes very throaty when pushing above 75-80kmph. I know its once in a blue moon to drive that fast but still. I eventually come down to 60kmph. Is it normal or not normal?
Whats the max speed you guys have touched?

                  • Hey Gladi owners, where are you. Seems Gladi doesn't attract much attention amongst Pulsars and R15's. Anyways, I am happy to be a Gladi owner, just wished we could ignite this thread again.
Ok coming to my question of high speed ride on Gladi, anyone got a suggestion.
Also since I am married I invariably drive with a pillion (my wife). Not a very comfortable seat for long rides, any suggestions for what can be done...

                    • Hi Justwheels.

Am a SS owner 2010 model. I also ride pillion mostly (with my wife) and there is no question of testing the bike's limits that time.

A small episode on the speed test:

During the hot sunny afternoon yest in solo ride, when i opened throttle i also felt the same way like you did and the bike was responding kind of (dont rev me anymore beyond 70kph) not very rev happy and had to put a deal of effort to touch 70kph in the needle...

Post that after a couple of hours rest, when i set off again, i felt the engine to be more responsive and a bit more rev happy and power was present at my disposal... Don t know why such a dual behavior...

My usual speed is between 40-50kph on daily basis...

What I practically experienced is, when you rev this motorcycle once in a while trying to push it to the top limit, it performs a bit harshly and does not do justice, but ride the motorcycle the same way couple of days or more, third day the throttle response seems to improve and so is the top speed...

I beleive many Gladi riders would have exp this phenomenon..pl discuss if there needs to be more points added

                      • Gladiator Sold.

It is not a rev happy bike. Had to do PITA to go over 65KM/h. Bike seems very sluggish. Seems smoke coming out of silencer during hard revving. Going for Apache Hyperedge. So long yamaha.

The bike can easily be pushed till around 90... At least that is my experience... I am not a very slow rider usually also... I feel for a 125cc single cylinder like ours which churns around 11 bhp that is good enough... push it more and it will hit a 100... My bike does not do much more than that.
I get open roads on my way back home everyday and dont find it hard taking my bike to around 80. It does it in relatively good time ( 125cc wise)... Dont expect too much mileage though while doing this

Max speed i have touched is around 108 (speedometer) long back

@sriram: The Chennai heat might have something to do with your bike not performing up to the mark

No comparison between a gladiator and apache... But there must have been a problem. Dont find it a PITA at all to cross 65 and i find my bike pretty rev happy... Could have been a problem with your bike if it was smoking n stuff. Anyways, Congratulations on your new buy

                          • Hi prashanth,

When you check my second para i mentioned that, i could feel the pull, surge, torque when taken the bike second time in the evening.. So i dont think a problem about the temp sluggishness..

Also i can say your bike is able to touch 80kph easily as you are taking the kph needle beyond 70 in frequent intervals and so the bike feels easier to attain beyond 80 withotu much effort.. Some of our guys don't do that frequently.. as the bike is not used to the hard revving..so it takes it s time to get used to it.. once the engine is there it will automatically start to gallop with ease.

Are you using the full synth oil now.. Let me know since when you have been using...

                            Comment

                            • ^^ Yeah that is why i said might have to do with temp... It generally... at least i have noticed that the bike feels and pulls much better in the mornings and evenings... When it is not hot and sunny...

N using normal oil now... There is a difference in the feel... I would go back to full synth soon...

                              • Hey everyone!

Posting here after a really long time. I had planned to install a HID headlight for my bike since quite some time after years of bearing with poor illumination and i finally did get it done yesterday at a store on JC Road. The light cost me 1300 and extra 300 for the mechanic/fitting. The mechanic said HID lights function only on DC wiring and so that's what's on my bike now after he converted it. I haven't checked the effectiveness yet but i will very soon, and maybe post a few pictures.
Right now, 11 Bhp at 7500 Rpm.
