  • My Glad 2300 kms in odo..

Last sunday rode the bike in pouring rain for more than 10-12 kms with occasional splashing of water in racing cowl n engine area, after a time while riding to reach the destination, in a signal stop i witnessed the idle RPM getting increased automatically to 3.5k rpm. i managed to take it home somehow in that condition.. now that rain has stopped i faced the same problem of extended high rpm in idle when engine is hot, but maintains at around 1.8k rpm when engine is cold.. why does such thing happening. what could be the reason.. can it be adjusted..

I touched 80 kph plus in open road and the rpm needle was between 7.5 to 8k.. is it the ideal rpm or gladiator can go beyond that. i felt at that speed the engine has reached its max limit no more power on hand to increase speed.

Also while doing aggressive acceleration, apart from normal engine beat sound additional noise from engine is noted.. is it normal.. thanks for your time

    • Got my 3rd service officially done though the date falls only after 10 days. The problems i faced made me visit the SVC earlier than scheduled.

      Problem:
      1. Oil leakage from right hand side casing. leakage was from the area in the case where the brake lever is present.
      Defect:
SVC Manager claims, the O-Ring present in the dip stick has givenway and has broken, ..My doubt was, is it possible at all?? in the first place??
      Solution:
Replaced engine oil as part of routine service request and replaced the dip stick with a new o-ring, no leaks found as of now..

      Problem
      2. Rode the vehicle in pouring rain that resulted in the idle RPM to turn erratic and stay at 3k rpm in idle... the problem persisted even after the rains stopped and problem will start when gets warm and the needle will stay put at 2.5k rpm
      Defect:
SVC Manager claims, the throttle body is contaminated and in turn affects the TPS which turns erratic and complains that fuel may be contaminated.. (Your views from your past experience)
      Solution:
Claims to have cleaned the throttle body and the entire path. (I did not understand what he meant? Do you ?)

The ride feels good now and the rev responsive is better than before..

Problem 1... It is possible... The O- ring can break... Jus check a few more times to see if that was the actual place from where the oil was leaking...

        Problem 2: I have no clue ...

Problem 1:- to be honest with you it is the first time that i am hearing such kind of problem. Anyways its just a plastic part so theres nothing unsual in the breaking of it.

problem 2:- Most of the petrol contaminations are by the ethanol. This ethanol causes the moisture & acids due to which there is a deterioration of the parts & loss of performance.
NOT BEEN THERE NOT DONE THAT

          • Agree that my problem may be a rare one but riding in pouring rains in pillion is not rare...

            1. Can TPS malfunction due a fuel contamination, he also added the TPS only shows how the quality of fuel is these days.. Can someone , experts answer me.

            2. the quality of certain parts such as the brake fluid tube holder has started to rust already and has given away its paint and show its brown inside...

            Will post pics tomm..

i seriously doubt the quality of parts used... i guess if this be the quality of parts used then the production cost of a gladiator should not be more than 8000 or 9000 rupees, apart from labour..

China people are ready to sell their moped for 4500 rupees in india... a basic moped in india costs 20000, now you calculate the cost involved and profits earned there by..

My Uncle's RX-100's 1988 was in impeccable condition during its' first decade of service, be it spokes, nuts bolts, holders etc none rusted .. only around 1998 he did a re paint job.. it has clocked 2.65L kms and resting peacefully...

Hey, you can push the bike harder dude. I've comfortably touched hundred on my Gladi with the tacho needle hovering at 9500 RPM, which i think is the maximum possible limit to which the bike can be revved, after which the limiter prevents any more revs. I must say that the acceleration from 60 kmph onwards to 80 kmph and beyond is a smooth process on this bike and i see no reason why you should have any problems.
Right now, 11 Bhp at 7500 Rpm.

              • Maybe i was nervous about sudden surprises and the un predictable traffic..

have you tried this high speed exercise in a highway or in city street.. i plan to ride not more than 40kph in city traffic, as the guys in other bikes (discovers, pulsars, apaches) who accompany us on roads are ruthless, do not follow rules n regulations, no proper indications, no nonsense, overtaking from left hand side and moving to extreme right by dangerously overtaking and scaring the hell out of other riders.

I asked this question before... When revved the bike hard the i get an additional sound from the engine which i am unable explain how it sounds, here, the sound is not present when ridden soberly.. does it happen in yours as well?

About performance mods... If you are looking for any drastic changes in performance then fitting a K&N wont help... at the most sound will change and u will get better throttle response... If u want real performance boosts try more along the lines of Free flow exhausts etc... It will give u noticeable increase in performance..

Places good with performance upgrades that i know of are only DTW or Down town works, Shanthinagar... N Joel can also help u with performance mods

Folks, its me e@udec0logne, in a new avatar since my previous login dint work. Yesterday, got my rear tyre upsized to 100/90 R18. The stock was Dunlop Zebra 3.00 x 18. Had to bend the swingarm rod a bit to ease access for the Zapper (i decided on the Q series). Got it done from JC Road, Bangalore.

It took me 1900 along with tube. Some pics:

                    Guys,

After googling and researching moto forums, I have decided to perform the following:

1>Upsize the main jet. I've read, that the Unicorn's one is a straight fit, plug and play. What do you think.

2>Install K&N filter replacing the stock one. Is RC1060 fit for Glady? Also, do these (K&N) improve any performance, apart from making the exhaust sound diff?? Plz advise.

3> I am also thinking about switching about NGK Iridiums spark plugs. CR7HIX.

If I go for a free flow exhaust (as suggested by prasanth.lobo), do i have to dump the stock one? ( I kinda like the machine gun style multi hole end, ) Or they do some internal modifications?

I would really, really appreciate if Gkady veterans here would advise and give me pointers about some reliable SVC centres where I could give my bike for these modifications/ along with a full service!!!

                    Thanks in advance!

I have been repeatedly thinking of putting K&N in my bike. But i finally decided against it. Too many bad reviews and even experts will tell u that in a stock bike its not worth it.
Yes, the sound is good, if u want that go ahead n do it properly with proper jetting. Performance gains will be minimal if any. I remember even on orkut community one of the more 'sound' members had tried K&N and was not happy with it.
I had suggested to put a free flow because you could get some actual gains in power if done right. You will have to change the current exhaust. The sound will be much better than the K&N But it will come with its fair share of problems... Especially cranky cops, otherwise mostly they won't care.
When it comes to modifications i would seriously ask you to approach Joel... If he has the time and he is ready to work on a 125cc :P then he is your man.
A simple reason would be because he proves his mods with actual figures. He has the expertise to keep your bike street worthy, whereas local mechs might give you performance boosts, but not reliability. After getting a mod job done for a local mech the money u spend every month to maintain the bike will make u regret the decision. I am saying this because i see this happening with my friend. There are other SVC as i have mentioned before. Fairly good. I have heard good about them. But please be a 100% sure of the mech before u tamper with ur bike.

P.S: I actually wanted the Zapper Q on my bike. There was no stock when i went around to get it

                          Hi Prashanth,

Thanks for your feedback. I might have to give my mod intentions, a second thought. However, my top end, overall ride quality has reduced drastically over months and I feel the engine is strained for any speed above 70. I have to give her for a full servicing (havent done in the last 10 months or so ). Could you provide me with some pointers of good SVC centres for Glady.

How are you ? So how is your ride after logging 23000kms in your bike, i heard some time back in this forum that bore and piston needs replacement after 30k kms, esp if the bike was ridden above 80 kmph most of the time..

Also sprockets, clutch plates might need replacements... i was assuming that the factory stock bore+Piston set will be churning out atleast 70-80K kms before a replacement?

                              your opinions on this

Nearly 26000kms now. It is going on fine as of now. I do not know if the bore+piston set will be needing replacement around 30k kms.
I'm guessing it will be much later.
Maybe the clutch plates might need replacement around that time. My sprockets have been changed during the last service. They will surely wear out at around 20-25k kms.
