and i was thinking of getting an NGK for my ride... any idea abt the specification and stuff?? :/
The stock spark plug in the Gladiator is NGK Conventional CR7HSA.
Above that is NGK G-Power CR7HGP. Compatible Iridium Spark plug is the Iridium IX CR7HIX. Dont expect any boost in performance.Costs around Rs 500/-.

Iridium is 6 times harder, 8 times stronger, and has a melting point 1200 degrees higher than platinum hence these last quite long as compared to conventional ones. Also the spark produced is consistent and performance degradation between cleaning intervals is less. Cold starts are better.
And in my case, after I switched to Iridium,I am getting better mileage.

Well i did switched to an iridium spark plug for my dio & after that the cold start problems have been eliminated. But about the mileage thing am not sure. Do you think it was worth spending that extra 400 bucks when you can get 5 spark plugs in the cost of one iridium one??
Am going to finish 10k kms on my bike soon (8800 on the odo now) & according to the manual it is time to change the air filter & spark plug. So will be trying the iridium ones on the basis of your views.

            • @all:-
I heard a lot of glady owners complaining on the cold start. Well i have found a new method of starting the bike in the mornings using kick starter (without choke) & in a single attempt. I dont know about other bikes but in my bike it does work & it even works in my friends enticer.

So here is the step. First kick the starter with force and as soon as you reach the end of the starter open the throttle & the bike should come to life. Try it a few times to match the correct timings & it should/will start.

Well this always works in my bike & dont held me responsible if it doesnt work.

It's worth in the sense that you wont need to change spark plugs as often as in the case of platinum ones. Iridium SPs last 4-5 times more than conventional ones. Plus you get whatever small advantages these bring. Frankly speaking and keeping science aside,in the end you just want what's best for your bike to have that little 'extra edge' whenever you are on the road.

True. Thanks for the suggestion. Will be changing in my next service which is scheduled at 10k kms.

PS:- This is OT but i have brought a galaxy 5 since you suggested against 5230.

                    • HI Night, Madhav,Lobo

The recent 5th service i got done, i replaced the current gladiator related yamalube mineral oil with 15-40 semisynth yamalube used for fazer,R15. is it a good move to switch to a semisynth oil. the SVC guy says with this oil in place, one can ride few more extra miles than regular oil before it is due for change..

                      1. Is Yamalube semisynth 15-40 oil a good choice for gladi... Post service i feel the engine to have become bit more responsive to throttle and revs better than before...

                      2. Even without a drop of leak, is there a possibility of decrease in oil quantity for a period of 2 months...kindly confirm as the SVC guy said the old oil measure was slightly lesser than the original amount filled.. kindl confirm

Hi sriram, observing you after a long time
1.) Are you sure its 15W40 or its 15W50?? If its 15W50 then nightwing can throw some light on this topic as he already used it. But we never heard 15W40 oil being used in the R15 yet.

2.) Yes it is possible. Sometimes it gets burned, or evaporated etc etc

                        • Went to the service center & got my bike serviced today. It was my 7th service & was paid one. Was 99XX kms on the odo. So got my chain kit cleaned, engine oil replaced (agip full synth) & spark plug replaced with an iridium one.

But after the service my bike is giving some jerks in accelaration & its not as smooth as before the servicing. What could be the possible reasons??? When i questioned the SC mech about it he told me that it is due to the clutch plate. He was talking about some part to be replaced in the next service. But i dont think its due to any problem with the clutch since it started to arise after the service only. I feel its due to improper air-fuel ratio. Can anyone throw some light on it??

Where did you give for service? How much was the bill?

I had given my bike for service on Monday to Pacer Motors. The bill was 750 with regular service and change in engine oil. My odo is 20000+ and the servicing guys insisted on many other things to be done like change in air filter, wheel truing, etc.., but I know that it was not necessary. Washing of bike was not good and the supervisor offered me one free wash in next 30 days.

I had given the bike at lotus yamaha near hebbal flyover. The bill was like
                              Service charge-300
                              chain lube-90
                              chain cleaning-150
They billed me a total of 596 (Dunno what kind of calculations they did but i dint argue with them about it)
I brought the engine oil & the spark plug from outside so i got the oil for 550 & the spark plug for 500. The service center guys told me also a lot of things to get done like battery maintenance but i skipped it. Since i NEVER cleaned the chain from the date of purchase (but did lubed it at regular interval) i got it cleaned. I kept a close eye on their every step to make sure that they would not fool me. Service is just OK. But i guess all company SC's offer similar low quality service for high price keeping in mind my previous encounters with SC's of other companies.

These guys have screwed up something in ma bike & its behaving oddly now. If it was not my concern of the warranty i would have kicked these guys in their a$$. These people have an attitude towards us as if they are doing the service for totally free. Once they denied doing the service of my bike since i arrived there at 11am instead of 9am (since my home is far from the SC & its traffic filled.)

                              • sorry Madhav
it should have been, 15W50, i have no idea what iit means other than the description that it is a semi synth...

I feel after changing the oil, the rev response is more free and light... does it mean it will perform well in high rpm as well..?

how is the throttle response like in full synth oil, like agip...

thanks for clarifying on the oil qty issue
