    • The self start has stopped working from yesterday. Push the button and all I get is a *trrrr*. Tried unplugging and replugging the starter switch relay as Dasco said, but to no good.
Also the chain is making a hell of a noise when it meets the chain cover at a point. This is the sixth time that this problem has come up.Spent a day trying to hammer the cover into position but ended up only making it worse.I am thinking of going for the O-ring chain from the SS/RS now. Keep it all open.

      • Hey!

Was out of town for 2 weeks and the bike was left unattended. Came back and rode the gladi again and it felt great as usual!

How many of you attending the G2G? I'm not sure....
Right now, 11 Bhp at 7500 Rpm.

this kind of sound is signs of faulty relay.every self start bikes relay has two relay route or circuit(technically i dont know).one relay is for starting in neutral and another one is for starting in gear mode while pressing clutch.so plz try to start ur bike while pressing clutch lever whether bike is in gear or neutral.

Well..this is fairly common problem with the Glady..atleast the older ones.
Well..check out the battery also..charge may have dropped..is all other electricals working good.
Is battery due for change/charging? Use another battery and check out how it works.

Battery is fine since the headlight and the horn work well when the bike is running. I guess the relay is kaput.

EDIT: Update-Checked it with the clutch pressed, still the same sound.

              • ^^^ I get the same sound whenever the charge on my battery is low... Put your bike on nuetral... See if your nuetral light goes dimmer when starting with push start... If yes then the battery might be out of charge... I remember once my mech did the same thing to show me my battery was low on charge... Even i thought it was a relay or starter prob but it was just the battery.. N yeah my horn n headlight were working fine at that time...

A month back,I was out of station for three days. Came back and found that the battery was dead flat. And it's a six month old exide battery. So I got it recharged.
And yes,the neutral light goes dim whenever the starter button is pushed. There's something seriously wrong with the battery charging rate I suppose.

                  • If thats the case then maybe the RR unit is not working properly... I remember sometime back DASCO had to fix it...

A niggling question : do the electricals carry a warranty?

OT: My last post on the thread was 07-16-2009, 04:19 PM . Considering there is not much buzz here, could we assume Gladi owners are a content lot?

I am going try mending it myself. Will post the entire procedure with pics once I am successful in fixing it.
Also,as I mentioned earlier I am going for the O-ring chain from the SS/RS on my Gladiator. While I am at it,I will get that half chain cover too. Looks good. Inquired about the price. The chain doesn't come separate. It's a set with sprocket too. The older DLX one costs around Rs 800/-. The new O-ring one costs around Rs 1100-1200/-. Already ordered it. The dealer told me that the sprocket differs from the older one but wasnt quite sure about it.

Good..do give details after you have mounted new set of chains.
It is a very good upgrade and worth the money.

Chains and sprokets are always one set. They come together.

I did get the RR unit replaced.
But I do think that your battery is down.
Get it charged and see how long it lasts. If the recharging is not good then you too would have to replace

The Gladi is doing good. How about you. Last service was at the CBZ. FE hovers around 52 kmpl. 8000k on the ODO. Did my 2nd 250k*2 : ride to Sakleshpur this time, on 20-Jun-09. Avg speed of the journey - 60 kmph (not counting breaks).
The engine revs hard, no sweat. I was revving to 5-6k at 1 gear, & then flick, flick, flick, flick - cruising at 5th gear in no time. Feels like auto tranny.
The magic of Veedol super swift is showing (Time to get yours for a great price ). I noticed I was covering 90kms distance non stop, before a butt break. I've discovered that the Gladi loves to be revved hard..

BTW did any of you upload pics for the Yamaha contest?
Edit: few passable Pics from the Sakleshpur ride
