  • Thanks a lot for the pics my friend. The R15 also has a similar setup-only sareeguard, no ladies'footrest. I removed it after the 1st Service coz anyways my Mom wouldn't be able to sit on it.
There is an option in the FZ to clip a ladies'footrest on, but that doesn't fit for the R15.
I have given up on the idea more or less. I guess I still have my old bike to take my Mom on-let it be that way if she is comfy with it!
    Thanks again for the pics.

    • I have finally managed to sort the self start issue. If you have the same problem get this:

This is the RR unit. 'Regulator unit' is how they know it at the spares centre. Costs Rs 560/-. Bought it for Rs.500/-.
The RR unit is located beneath the fuel tank. Dont mistake it for the one under the panel located over the battery since they both have the same socket.
Removing the fuel tank is very tricky.Dont do this if you are not sure you can dismantle it and put it back together.Get it done by a mechanic. I had to take out the seat, the tank cowls, both the side panels.
Once the fuel tank is off the bike, locate the RR unit. You will find it near the place where the seat starts. Replace it with the new one. Make sure the socket is snugly fit.
Put the fuel tank back together.
Issue solved. My self start is working fine now.

        • My Fazer is givin lot of probs .. Help ME

          Hi guys ..
For a Start. My bike has ran 38000 km in a time span of 3.5 years. Yesterday I changed my rear tire which was due for change for the 3rd time. The previous two times I had installed stock size on the rear which is 3.00 18". So for the purpose of experimenting I installed a MRF Zapper-Y 100/90 18"(Rs.1400 with tube) which I guess is just one size more, and according to me, the Tyre has been fit correctly on the wheel.

Since Yesterday whenever I apply the rear brakes, there is this squeaky noise from the drum brake at the rear, which wasnt there before the tyre change. The brake shoes have been changed around 4k km before. Also the mechanic who installed the tire, didnt seems to have good know-how regarding wheel alignment and tightning the brake properly.

He didnt check the wheel alignment, after adjusting the chain

He had intitally tightened the brake too much, the rear wheel wasnt moving freely. Last night after riding for ten kilometres, I noticed a cosiderable loss in fuel efficiency hence I checked the rear wheel, and it had heated up a lot, which is very unusual, So I ended up loosening the brake slighly, but now there is this squeaky noise.

Secondly, after tyre change, my handlebar started getting locked at certain positions, hence while turning, I had to apply more effort to bring the bike to a straight position, this was tightened by a mechanic at my last service which has been done 250km back, I had told him to change the cone set for handlebar, but he ended up applying some grease and tightening the handlebar. Before this service, the problem I was facing was that, when I applied the front brake, there was this kat-kat noise from handlebar. I had got this checked at SC also, n they recommened the procedure followed by the above mechanic or just to change cone set.

Now Today I went to the third mechanic, whos garage is quite close to my house and also because the first mechanic (hes the better one of the two) was closed today, also the SC wasnt funtional today.
He has loosened the handlebar, so now there isnt a problem with the handling which was getting locked in certain positions, but the kat-kat sound is back.

Also tonight I noticed a slight wobble from the front wheel, I checked the wheel by rotating the wheel in forward direction, and noticed that the wheel is shaking slightly. I have changed the front wheel bearings once till date which is about 16000 km b4. The front tyre is in very good condition, it has been changed once around 10000 km b4. the tyre is a Dunlop Mystery 2.75 18"

          Please Help ME

          • Finally had the problem sorted out, it was the carburetor diaphragm. Now the bike’s throttle response is good and does seem to rev fine.

Planning to have the battery replaced. Is it ok to have it changed to 12v, 9 A, should I be changing the wiring ? The standard rating is 12v , 5 A.

Can I change the head light to a higher wattage without changing anything else?

              Hello Ronak,

I think there are two/three had be checked in your bike. First thing would be Wheel alignment at the back. And the second thing would be check the Coneset & bearings for the front wheel. And as you mentioned that there is a little shake in front wheel that is the reason for wobbling and this might create problems in braking as well and the kit kit sound.

I think you need a good mechanic to diagnose the problems with your bike. If you are staying near to Bhannergatta road (BTM, Jayadeva hospital or Jayanagar) There is a mechanic near the east end circle. His name is Prabhakar and his number is 9886364906. Tell him that you a friend of Balaji (Gladiator Owner from Chandapura).

You can call him to get the location details and take your bike there. He is a yamaha certified guy and will take cae of your bike.

                • @lakhanironak: Please do follow what balaji.ep... Has to be a prob with the cone and the wheel alignment... N do find a mech in your city... I don think balaji realised u are from bhopal...

I don know if the bikes wiring can handle 9A... that hopefully someone else would help you...

There is no use of changing your headlight to a higher wattage one without rewinding the coil...
Because the light intensity will be the same as ur bike can only provide 35W of power...
N higher intensity bulbs are usually 55/60W and 100/90W i think...

Rewiring the coil takes a lot of skill... N if done wrong might screw up ur electrical system... Other alternative if u really want a higher intensity bulb n are ready to spend some money is getting a h.i.d... It doesn't need rewinding of the coil but other small changes to the electricals...

Would you recomend Prabhakar for other Yamaha models too. Specifically the FZ and the RX??

                          Hi,

I am not sure about FZ as I haven't spoke to him about it. I would recommend him for RX. If you speak to him you will come to know whether he can check FZ as well.

                            • hi gladdy owners.

i have recently purchsed yamaha gladiator type-ss in jamshedpur form auto world, and have done 220km in only one week, yet smooth but at lower speed i observed there is some misfiring ( pit-pit sound) may be its due to my bike just got all wet in heavy rain 3 days ago plz suggest some solution to rectify this issue, otherwise it's okay n smooth bike... ..please suggest some milegeage increasing (KMPL) tips as yamaha is not known for it's fuel efficeint bikes... any suggestions to have front no plate mounting (i dont wanna spoil its sporty look with that current provision for no plate mounting) & rear tyre modification without affecting it's KMPL.(as rear tyre seems to be very thin as compareto bike's body)
also what about the service & spare parts as people always complaint about yamaha poor service & unavaliability of spaare parts.

                              reply soon....

                                Hi Sudanshu,

                                Congrats on your new ride...

Misfiring is almost always a spark plug problem... Tell a mech to check your spark plug...
To keep it fuel efficient, i guess you'll have to give the bike a good run in... N try to change gears between 3.5 and 5 rpm... You are sure to get good mileage...
You can get a number plate mounting done just under the headlight... It was done on my bike by the yamaha sc... But the number plate broke once when i hit a big pothole hard... Now i jus have a sticker... If you are ok with that then u can get that done... Otherwise go to the yamaha sc n tel them to give u a mounting under the headlight... they should be able to do it...
Im pretty sure changing to a bigger tyre will affect your mileage to certain extent... If you still want to go ahead with a tyre change... I guess you can go with 100/90 18" tyre... It will fit on the stock rim...
Service is poor in most sc's not just yamaha... I guess its because of the amount of bikes they have to service a day... But if you want your warranty not to be void then you'll have to continue going to them... Try getting to know the mechs... They might do a better job if you know them...
Spare parts im not too sure about... I haven had to change any... Maybe somebody else can answer that question...
