i have recently purchsed yamaha gladiator type-ss in jamshedpur form auto world, and have done 220km in only one week, yet smooth but at lower speed i observed there is some misfiring ( pit-pit sound) may be its due to my bike just got all wet in heavy rain 3 days ago plz suggest some solution to rectify this issue, otherwise it's okay n smooth bike... ..please suggest some milegeage increasing (KMPL) tips as yamaha is not known for it's fuel efficeint bikes... any suggestions to have front no plate mounting (i dont wanna spoil its sporty look with that current provision for no plate mounting) & rear tyre modification without affecting it's KMPL.(as rear tyre seems to be very thin as compareto bike's body)
also what about the service & spare parts as people always complaint about yamaha poor service & unavaliability of spaare parts.

    reply soon....
Congrats Sudanshu on your new bike…welcome to the club J

I wouldn’t suggest having the number plate below the headlight , it may hit the mudguard under hard breaking or when you hit a pot hole.(The fairing on gladiator SS/RS is lower than on the previous generation gladiators. Even I have a sticker on the visor(this is illegal and you can be fined).

Also I have upgraded the rear tyre to 100/90 18" MRF ZAPPER Q.. I would recommend this tyre if your use is primarily in city/good tarmac..this tyre has good grip for both dry and wet road conditions , but not so good on patches with gravel.

Yamaha service centers don’t do a good job, just have a check on the sheer number of bikes that they get , and also we gladiator owners are no longer their privileged group any more when they have R15s, FZs around to service. And if your still want to give it to the SC then try to befriend a mechanic and see if you are allowed to see the bike being serviced.

The spare parts on gladiator is not a problem and so far had no issue in getting any (my bike is almost a year and a half old).

    • Guys, Has anyone used it in gladiator ? Wanted to know if using yamalube 20w40 Grade SL is ok for gladiator(the recommended one is 20w40 Grade SG) .

Yamalube 20w40 SL is also JASO MA which means it can be used for wet clutch motorcycles.

      • Hi arun,

Can you tell me how much the zapper q's cost?? How has it affected your mileage and pick up?? N if you can, can you please post a pic of the rear of your bike...

        Thanks,

Any 20W40 oil should work fine on the gladiator... Both SL and SG are mineral oils... Actually even 10W40 will work fine on the gladiator..
I haven tried Yamalube Sl... Stopped putting yamalube long back... But if you do try it... Please do tel me no how the oil is...

          • Well Prashanth the zapper Q did cost me Rs.1350 along with the tube.. It should be around 1250-1300 in Bangalore. I didn’t do any modification and the tyre was a straight fit, and the bike does handle more confidently around corners now as the tyre has round shoulders. I have a picture of the tyre from team bhp.

Will try the 20w40 grade SL.. The SL grade has more friction reducing agents and should give a smoother engine and gear box.. The SL grade engine oils are not recommended for wet clutch motorcycles generally ,as these can cause the clutch to slip.. but again yamalube 20w40 grade SL has JASO MA rating which means this engine oil is specifically designed for wet clutch motorcycles. Planning to have the engine oil changed this week end. Will post the results.

            • Thanks Arun,

Do tel me how the oil performs... As i have been using Castrol Engine oils for sometime now... N a change would be welcome... Do you get good mileage on your bike?? I have never been able to figure out why i dont get more than 45... It irritates me to know a bike like unicorn with more power gives more mileage...

N thanks for the info on the Zapper Q's... Are they available in tubeless... It would be nice if i could change to tubeless... What about the pick up has it changed in any way??

              • Sure prashanth will post the results..have castrol active 4T right now.. the bike does not sound the same as before so planning to change to yamalube... Will try motul 3000 4T next.
I have asked the same question in one of my earlier post and well Prashanth it was you who “consoled” me that I am not the only person getting this mileage. My bike now returns a mileage of 47 kmpl , I fill in only at shell. And if driven conservatively returns up to 52..I have heard people talking of mileage figures of 60 kmpl..dont know how they get it though. Let me know if anyone has the answer to that…\

I am not sure if zapper Qs are available as tubeless

                • ^^Yup... I did console you about those mileage figures... But now i'm getting a little irritated because even when i ride conservatively i fail to get anything above or even 50... I usually do ride my bike at high rpms so i do not expect to get good mileage always, but atleast when i do ride under sane conditions i atleast expect a mileage of 55...

@all- Went to mysore and came back on the gladi day before... No pics of the ride sadly... Overall i think did about 360 kilometers to and fro... Went with a pillion... The bike behaved very well even in the heavy rain... Speeds were usually between 60 and 90....
Only problem i found was that the bike used to jerk a little when i went more than 95 and was closing 100... It felt like there was no fuel or something... Im guessing it was because of improper carb tuning... If you all think it could be something else please do tel me...

@arun- Jus realised this was the exact prob you had mentioned in a post... I had told u to check the carb tuning... Was that the prob??

It is exactly the card settings Prashant.

I have seen this issue many times in almost 3 years time I spent with my bike. So carb tuning will resolve this issue.

                    • Okay... I had told my mech to tune the bike properly during my bike's service which was done yesterday... Ill see if the prob is resolved or still persists this sunday... Thanks balaji...

                        • @prashanth: The carb may be dirty or not tuned right as Balaji said. After the carb was cleaned and tuned it worked fine on my machine and the bike does go upto 95kmph.. haven’t checked the top speed though, but should do 100kmph

@Yamaha Gladiator : I have already posted the pics of the tyre, in case you would like to know more about it here is the link http://www.mrftyres.com/products/2wheelers.html

                              thanks for replying buddies .....

well i went to sc to show earlier problem of misfiring,he just adjust the carb setting ,now it is little bit okay waht cud be the other cause of the misfiring like sound (pit-pit),also i shifted to Xtra mile petrol , believe me ,now it is more advanterous to drive the gladdy...just smooth
also i have come to know that K&N filter,BOSCH filter is good for motorbikes like gladdy with upjetting, but also there is problem of early carburretor damage & frequent change of the same.???
can anyone have any idea what make of airfilter is installed in the galddy type-ss/rs? what is the price of K&N filter for gladdy in india & it's part no( AT K&N SITE u will find aprt no for various airfilters)....suppose if you install K& N filter with upjetting the carb, then only power gonna increase ....what about the mileage???
                              please ur opinion on this.......

                                Hi Sudhansu,

Main problem for the misfiring can be the Spark plug as well. check whether spark plug is fine and doesn't have any carbon formed on it. As you have already tuned the carburetor that shouldn't be the issue.

And I dont recommend to change the air filter on SS/RS as the existing airfilter is somewhat like K&N itself. It is not the same airfilter used on Old glady models like mine. And for Galdiators I have checked with showroom mechanics itself and they dont recommend to change airfilter for Glady as the stock one itself is efficient enough.

And K&N can provide only initial pickup, it will not change the top speed and reduces the mileage for sure as the air and fuel mixture increases as you are doing upjetting. This is result of my research on K&N for Glady.

There are ppl who have fixed K&N on their gladies and they may give you more inputs regarding that. And onething I am sure is "The Mechanic" should be knowledgable to install K&N and upjetting as small mistake may cause drastic changes in bike's performance and fuel efficiency.
