  • hey i have a 08 red and silver gladiator
last week i had a puncture in the rear tyre, i had the puncture removed and fixed the wheel. But after that day my bike is wobbling a bit on single seat and on double seat you can notice it properly.after checking i noticed that the rear wheel is wobbling.what could be the problem is the wheel not fixed properly??

    • Ya if the tyre is wobbling then it might not be fixed properly... Also check if the tyre itself is damaged internally because of the puncture... This could cos some wobbling...

Get both the fitment of the tyre and the internal side walls of the tyre checked...You must not deprive yourself of the Gladys biggest USP..handling..
I think it should only be a ditment problem..just get it fixed properly..thats all.

        • Guys please help me.. Today i went till 80 kmph and heard some weird sound from engine.. i didnt know that i was in fourth gear.. then only changed to 5th gear.. no problem as of now... Would this have hurt my engine in a bad way? I am so sad now..

          • ^^What was the wierd sound like??? that would help us tel you if something is wrong... Like sometimes a bell sound like ting ting means that your tappets might be loose... N don worry about taking your bike 80 on fourth gear nothin is gonna happen... I ve taken it the max it can go on fourth gear a lil above 90 or 95 on the speedo (dint see properly)... it'll be fine

Thanks for your reply.. Can i know what is the safe speed for the respective gears? And the sound was like an modified silencer sound.. something like that... No problem now.. That was the first time i took that much speed in 4th gear...

              • ^^^ Ah.. Don worry about that sound.. It usually is the sound when the bike is revved harder... Sort of like a mixer grinder mixed with a nice exhaust note... Hehe!!! Anyways, I love that sound!!!...
N about safe speed, i actually don no exactly wat u mean, but if you mean speeds where you might get optimal mileage then keep it in between 3k rpm and 5k rpm in all gears in the city... That would translate to maybe 60 in fifth gear(at 5k rpm)... Around 45-50( at 5k rpm) in fourth... Many claim they get good mileage in that range...

I've touched a max speed of 60 in 4th gear. But i still think your experience wont affect the engine. The gladi has a pretty high-revving engine, probably the highest revving in it's class. Even i'm a bit scared of going beyond 60-65 in 4th gear. But i honestly think there's going to be no problem with your engine. And that weird sound would've been the maximum limit of rev for the 4th gear. Just a guess....

Hey Glady touches 80 + easily in 4th..it should not be a problem and a quick shift will get you a feeling of how much power is stored in these high revs..the bike just surges ahead with a precise and quick shift..one of the best feelings with the Glady

As for optimal speed I have felt the engine to be butter smooth when cruising at 55KMPH..it feels really smooth...

                    • Yup, the bike feels silky smooth between 50-55kmph.

                      • My Gladiator is due for next servicing. Haven't had any issues so far. There's a slight problem though. The bike is squirming under hard braking.Have to get it sorted out. And I need a favour from you guys.If you go to the Yamaha SC for something then can you please enquire about the part no. of the left side underseat panel (where it's written '5 speed'.In the newer models it has Type SS/RS written on it) of the old Gladiator DLX Silver colour (Code:-5YY). The SC guys here have lost the part catalogue for the old Gladiator and still cant help me with the parts.
And while I am at it,here's a funny incident demonstrating how exclusive the Gladiator is here.
Recently I got stopped by two Policeman holding two fat notebooks. Something to do with a survey or database. Here's the conversation that ensued.
Police:Ye kaunsi motorcycle hai? (What motorcycle is this?)
Me: Yamaha ki hai.Gladiator (It's a Yamaha Gladiator).
Police: Bahar se mangawayi hai, kagaz dikhao. (You got it from abroad.Show me the papers).
Me: Arey ye yahin banti hai. Yamaha ki Gladiator hai. Ad nahi dekha aapne? (It's made here in India. It's the Yamaha Gladiator. Didnt you see the ad?)
Police: Achcha, kitne cc ki hai? (Okay,How much is the cc of the bike?)
                        Me: 125cc.
Police: To phir ye itni badi kyon hai? Silencer itna bada kyon hai? (So why it is so big? Why is the silencer so big?)
Me: Iska jawab to Yamaha hi de paayegi. (The answer can only be given by Yamaha)
Police: James Bond ka number liya hai. (You have got James Bond's number.)
Me: *My bike's reg no is 0070*
One of them filled out my details while the other kept fidgeting about the handle of the bike and the disc brakes still unsure.
Police: Kya naam hai bike ka?(What's the name of the bike?)
                        Me:Gladiator.
                        Police: Gaaldiator?
                        Me: No Glaaaadiator.
                        Police: Gladidator?
                        Me:G-L-A.....
                        Police:Achcha achcha.Theek hai jao.(Okay.You can go.)
I looked in the notebook, smiled and left on my rechristened Gladidator.
