Well I felt the same when I tried what silent killer told. However, I follow the kmph process which simple...

      I change the 2nd gear at 15 to 20 kmph, 3rd at 25 to 30 kmph, 4th at 35 to 40kmph, 5th at 45 to 50kmph....

I am getting a good mileage.

hi yamaha gladiator( sorry dont know ur name)

as u replied my shift pattern is alomost similar to u ...0-15 1st gear

        2nd gear change at 15-20KMPH
        3rd at 25-30+KMPH
        4th at 35-40+KMPH
        5th at 45+kmph
and as far as the mileage is concern i have not yet measured it intensionally but i am getting 55-50KMPL. i am using indian oil premium petrol.
what about you ?? ... what is the KMPL of your bike ??
any tips that you would like to share ...

ma bike's mileage is 55+ kmpl..... not sure which petrol i use as it depends on the petrol bunk that i see .

Rather being conscious abt gear change, i listen to the bike (engine) and according to the relativity i ride.... If a road that's filled with pot holes, u can't expect to ride keeping the shift pattern in mind.

So my tip, listen to ur bike (engine) and make it feel comfortable. Don't push her hard and never increase the throttle in lower speed.

This is what i think. If you have any, please post back... will be nice to know....

yes i said so...but that was not for all gears...that was for higher gears....

            shifts
1st gear leaves at 3k rpm...
2nd gear leaves at 4k rpm..
3rd gear leavess at 4.5-5k rpm...
4th gear leaves at 4.5-5k rpm....n there u r riding at 50kmph to get max average....

                  • Hi guys , at what top speed can the gladiator cruise freely . Hope you know what i mean , without much stress on the engine .
I am not asking top speed of the bike but the top speed at which is not stressed much .

                    Thanks
Hope is a good thing ,

                    • ^^Hmmm... I would say it can cruise freely around 80-85... Engine doesn feel stressed... Although it wont be possible to overtake suddenly... As the engine lacks torque as in the higher cc bikes....

                        • hi folks,

i want to know about the oil change ..... i have done 1200KM as per the odo, my next service(2nd) is due on 11 dec,2009. Should i shift to castrol mineral active 4t or continue with yamalube 20w40, mineral oil .

when it is suggested to adopt semi synthetic or syenthetic oil for your bike ,speccially for gladiator??

also someone was saying that .... these oil reduces the friction hence afffects the clutch performance causing it(clutch plates ) to wear very early. and i feel the headlight bulb is not of sufficeint power as compared to other bikes ....any option to get the sufficeint light ,without imparting the load on battery ???
in last, does teflon coating really work for bike to save it's paint & maintaining polish finish look???

                            Hey,

I would say stick to Yamalube... I dint like Castrol Active personally... Gear changes became stiffer after putting that...

Wait till about 5000-6000km to switch to synthetic oil... Dont ask me why that figure, i don no, i have jus heard a lot of people say that is a good time... But i know its not good to put early as it doesn help the bike's running in process...

N i haven heard about the clutch plate thing... Gonna switch to Full synth soon so i guess by the time you switch i would be able to answer your question about clutch performance...

I have the same light problem... Haven found a solution yet... Thinking of going for a coil rewind... As i have found a reliable place to do it from...

About teflon coating... I don have it on my bike... But on my dads car its working well... Polished look remains jus need to water wash thats it...
