Yes, it is the disc caliper brushing against the disc. It happens with my bike also. Not to worry.

If you've tanked up the bike, it should not have any problem starting when the fuel cock is in the RES or ON position. Use Kickstart whenever you can and as much as possible since the bike is new.

      • Thanks, HydBiker and Sharkbite. Wonder which new bike sound/smell will catch my attention next ?

Re. fuel cock, I had left it in OFF position which led to the bike's engine stopping after a few minutes. But when I switched it to RES, it started correctly but stopped after a few minutes again. Since then, I have not been able to start it via electric starter or by kick starter.

I am on leave from tomorrow, so I will get all the time in the world to play and learn. Will try the bike again tomorrow else call the service centre.

        • New Bike Update

The bike DOES start . It is a bit shy to start first thing in the morning, though. I call the earlier issue as part of New Bike Behaviour . I had to kick maybe 15-18 times to get the bike started, but once it warmed up, it gave no problems.

Took it out at 5:45 AM today for my first ever solo/self-controlled/non-guided ride; to the petrol pump to tank her up. Oh well, it was barely 2 KM going and coming, but what the heck.

          • ^^^Have you showed your bike to the SC... The gladi isn't shy mate... Mine starts on the first kick every morning n its been 1 and half years now...

N be safe when your are learning... Wear your helmet always... Hope you have invested in a good one... These early morning rides are good... Thats how i learnt to ride my first bike... Although it was a hell a lot more jumpier and scarier than the gladi(i had an rx)...

            • My first service is booked this Saturday. I will definitely mention the starting problems - both by electric starter and by kick starter.

The reason I am hesitant is that I haven't used the bike much (took delivery on 19th December and till now only 19KM on odometer), with me still learning and all. It is only since yesterday that the bike is being ridden respectable distances . So I guess as the bike gets settled, these problems will disappear.

                • My bike fell over when a dog crossed the way.. I did service a day back and the handle bar bent was removed. It is fine now but is it safe to ride with it? Or do i have to replace the handle bar?

I am still in free service, completed 4th service. How much charges are applied in free services for you guys?

                  My last service bill:

                  MISC: Rs. 30

Chain Lube(They said chain servicing): Rs. 75
Handle bar bent removed: Rs. 50

Total - Rs. 357(including VAT and service tax)

                  • ^^^ If the handle bar feels fine and there is no bend in it... ride it... it shouldn be a problem.... If you want to change the handlebar for your peace of mind then do it... Its pretty cheap...

                        Another Query...

                        1. Whenever i start my bike in the morning.. It doesn't start in the first kick and the throttle gives better response only after some time.

                        2. Is it fine to use choke every time in the morning to start bike? Will it affect the bike?

1.This is normal for the Gladiator in the winter. Kick start the bike and let the engine warm up and settle down till the point you have the normal idling sound.
Did the mechanic clean the spark plug in your previous service?

2.Yes it's fine for cold starts.Do remember to turn it off though.

                          • First Service

I took my Gladiator to its first service today. Nothing much to write about as the bike is practically new having done just 35KM to date. Well, I got delivery on 19th December and due to various reasons, started riding it only since 27th Dec; so I hope to move the odometer faster now. I am learning, and my bike is settling in .

                            1. Oil change - Rs. 220
                            2. Adjusted the brake light switch - it was not being lighted when the rear brake was activated.
                            3. Kick start taking lot of kicks to start - well, it started promptly in the service centre, will check it tomorrow morning to see if the issue is fixed.

I had two issues - needed the front number plate clamp and I discovered that I did not have the toolkit! My mistake. I should have opened the left compartment at delivery time itself. Meanwhile, the factory shop attendant told me that both items were out of stock as far as Gladiator is concerned, and my sales representative was currently at the RTO, "taking the V-MAX through some tests" .

                            More points:
                            1. The left compartment panel is a pain! I removed it before taking it to the service, and sweated for 15 minutes trying to put it back. Really, there should be a more convenient way for storing toolkit and documents.

                            2. While drying the bike using compressed air, the guy blew off the Yamaha logo from the console .
