  • Just to let you guys know,I have upgraded to a CBR 250R but still have my Gladiator. Hopefully she will be with me as long as the Almighty and Yamaha spares permit me.
It's been 5 years and still the front disc pads are as good as new. Rear brake shoes are fine as well. Changed to Gulf Pride Plus 20W40 during this service. I would recommend this over Castrol Power One. It's cheaper and the bike feels exactly the same, even better to ride.
    Ride safe fellow Gladiators.

    • HI Night,

Thanks for your update about the engine oil brand change update. i was using Yamalube semisynth of R15 in my Glady ss, plan to switch to gulfpride,

is there any checks need to be done before oil switching. is gulfpride a full synth oil??

I have run a 1000 odd kms now since the last oil change.. i feel the top end gets a bit stressed out with this oil .. whatz your opinion.

Great news on your new entrant... I hope you use it for long distance rides.. Do you have any figure in mind. of what will be your cruising speed if at all you plan for long rides once the run in period of 2k kms is over ???

Happy to note that, your Glady will still be sparing used by you, and the vehicle condition is also fine. How much have you clocked till now,

Discuss it in that thread.. thanks Ravi.

Note: Can i use SAE-90 gear oil for all screws, nuts, bolts as a safety measure against moisture n rust, or will the old engine oil suffice for this job..

You can switch to Gulf without any issues. The Gulf Pride Plus 20W40 is not Synthetic, its a mixture of mineral base stocks & added performance additives. The Yamalube SS is a 15W50 grade oil and is thicker at the top end. This is what's stopping your bike from performing at its best. Thicker oils dont suit the Gladiator's engine. At speeds of over 80kmph the engine does feel strained but that's expected from a 125cc.
You can use the combination of WD40+any lube for rust removal and prevention. And please dont use that old engine oil on your bike's chain.
Regarding the CBR, I am slow rider. Hardly cross 60-70 in city limits and only when the highway is long and empty do I stretch the bike's legs. Havent done that since it's still in running in period. It's a good thing that I didnt buy a P220. There's a reason why the CBR is twice as expensive and I recently found that out during a ride.

        • Thanks Ravii, for all your replies,
I will try sourcing Gulf pride if possible (Not sure in Chennai) for the next oil change. Why is that instead of using a full synth you have opted for this.

I remember Madhav Krishna using a Full synthAGIP, people make tall claims full synth does better in top end but where is the road to ride in full throttle and who will want to prove in a small engined glady.

Why do you choose Gulf pride instead of full synth. What is the advantage you felt?

Whate makes you think CBR costing twice is much better than P220. Is it bec P220 is more in population or bec of its tech specs..

i plan to use SAE-90 gear oil along with WD-40 for pivot points to protect the nuts, bolts screws etc... I am currently using SAE-90 for the O-Ring chain.. That was given in the manual.

When you get time. please let me know how to adjust the air-fuel mixture in the glady thanks

GREAT. So the CBR fever has affected you too. Anyways congrats on your bike.

            • Have anyone replaced the Carburetor of Gladiator? Can anybody tell me why the Carburetor needs to be replaced! I mean, what are the causes for the damage of Carburetor?

              Thanks in Advance!

              • How can a Carb Fail ? You mean it's not functioning anymore? Maybe some broken part inside..

I have heard people saying to use Unico'ns Carb after a upjet in the Glady, need confirmation. Need other member's inputs here.

May i use Mobil 1 Full synth 10W40 for Glady? How does it suit it? Is it OK on the long run for a single sparked, air cooled, 124 cc motor..

                kindly confirm Ravi...

I was getting the bike serviced at 2 thousand kms interval. Motul lasts much longer than that and I couldn't stop myself from the changing the oil at every service. Hence switched to Gulf Pride Plus which seems to have all the best things of the Motul at a lesser price. It's much better than Power One for sure, even though P1 is semi synthetic and Gulf is mineral.
The use of Fully Synthetic oil in our bike and it doing justice to it is debatable. Experts recommend FS oil for cases when you are hammering down all the time or have to face extreme weather conditions. What I maintain in case of the Gladiator is,go for any kind of oil but stick to the recommended grade i.e. 20W40 or 15W40. Mobil 1 FS has had good reviews. But I havent tried it yet so I will reserve my judgement.

Yup. Finally decided to take the plunge. This is the first time there's a Honda in the family. Thanks.
The Gulf Pride Plus is better than Yamalube for sure. The printed cost is Rs 215/-. They usually sell it at Rs 190/-. You will have to get 2 bottles since they are 900ml cans.

Will try it then. But maybe i have to give my bike again at the service center. The engine noise problem has still not been solved even after the bearing has been changed (under warranty).

When my bike's handlebar was bent, i got it replaced at the SVC. Cost me 200 bucks. See if you want to explore this option.

Thanks a lot. The choice of engine oil depends on your budget. How many kms has your bike run? Have you switched to SS or FS oil yet? On a tight budget both the Motul 3000 4T and Gulf Pride Plus 20W40 do a good job. Will be good enough for 2k kms interval. Higher than that you have Petronas Sprinta 10W40 (which is a FS oil but priced competitively at around 450/-). I prefer the Gulf Pride over the higher priced Power 1. Haven't used any Shell oil yet so cant say about that.

My bike has clocked 19513 Km until now. I've been using Yamalube 20W40 from the very beginning and want to try something different now. The Yamalube has served me well, by the way. Budget would be about 300, give or take a some more. I'll choose between Motul and Gulf. Petronas and Castrol could be for some other time when i have a bigger budget. Thanks!

                            • Hi Night, Shark,

I don't get Petronas or Gulf in my area. I opted for this oil Mobil 1 Full synth 10w40. I am not sure if the can size is 1.0L. But the marking to the sides of the can show up to 800ML which is marking below the neck of the can.

This is the oil i opted for, Its not yet filled now and waiting for due dates and some confirmation from you guys. Will one can suffice or do i need more to fill the entire sump. The can looks like 900ML. not sure. It costed a whooping 750 bucks ..

                              1. What is the oil holding capacity of Glady ?
                              2. Is the 10W40 grade ok for Glady's engine ?
                              3. Should i sell this can and opt for a different brand like Motul 3000. Am counting on your advice before plunging.
                              4. If i decide Mobil 1 as the oil for my ride, going forward will i be able to switch to a different FS brand which will be more economical on the long run ??

It s a very critical decision to take. Awaiting your feedback to proceed further..

This is the first time i'm trying on a different oil in my bike so someone who's done all that can give you more reliable feedback. The oil holding capacity is 1000 cm3 or a litre. I think it's better to stick to the recommended grade of oil, even if you choose different oils. Regarding the use of Fully Synthetic or Semi Synthetic, i think someone has been kind enough to post about the utility of both somewhere else in this topic. You could look around a bit elsewhere on the forum too for more info.
