  • Yeah, Ravi has experience working with SS oils and mineral based ones and madhav has some experience on FS oils. So wanted their feedback here, I am infact actively on the lookout.

MY question is, Whether 10W40 FS oil will suit glady in the long run. I am in chennai and most of the time the mercury will be in higher 30's and no winter at all..

I thought that way the FS oil may be useful.. The can says 942ml. Should i buy one more of it (Rs 750) to fill it to the brim.. i am plenty confused here.. Help me guys !!!

How much qty does a Agip FS oil can contain in ML? Is it a one liter can ?
I remember night saying 900ML in gulf pride?

Will spending 750 + 750 bucks for a oil refill really give an edge over other normal glady's ?? Post your opinion on this ? I am ready to even start a thread..

The 10W40 is a suitable grade for the Gladiator. What essentially we are looking for in a xxWyy grade oil is a value of xx as low as possible and yy value as 40 since W50 is a thicker oil,and in my opinion restrains the engine from performing to the fullest. A thicker oil than recommended is recommended for bikes whose engine run hotter, the Pulsars for example.
Coming back to the question of giving your bike an edge over other,it sadly wont if you are expecting performance boost. What FS oil(in our bike's case) does in essence is last long, very long. I have yet to see any difference between the Motul 5100 SS I was using earlier and the Mineral Gulf Pride that I am on now. Except perhaps the engine noise and drain intervals.
You will have to buy two bottles if the bottle is of 900ml each. Save the remaining oil for future use.

      • Thanks for your info Ravi, In that case i am really thinking whether is it worth buying two cans and it indeed costs a lot.

Maybe as part of experiment i can go ahead this time, but going forward can i switch back to semisynth Yama lube once again. no other SS oils available here except motul and castrol power one

Yup. You can switch back anytime without any issues.

Its been sometime since you have posted this. So is it ok now?
Hey Sorry for replying late!! Was busy with work. Yes The issue was due to a nut not being tightened properly. Eventually it became loose and hence all that instability whenever there is a sudden surge in accelaration or under even normal braking.
Headed straight to the mechanic and he found that the nut was loose. It was his fault and he accepted it and told me that this wouldn't happen again.

Also have changed my glady's tyres front and rear to michelin m45(2.75) front and Sirac street(3.00) rear. The grip is awesome from these tyres. The total cost of both the tyres excluding the tubes is 2950/-.

Also, Which engine oil do you think is good for gladiator up till 2500 KMs in hot and humid conditions? Will a fully synthetic oil help? or a Semi-Synthetic or Mineral will suffice? I am not expecting any performance gains but rather a smooth and rev happy engine. Please let me know which type and what brand of oil will be good for my needs?

            Thank You.

                    • I thought would take help from this thread for my RX requirement:-

I want to convert the RX135 front brake from drum to disc. I have bought the Gladiator hub and spokes sometime back. Over the period of time, got drifted in space and left the project as is.

Now, planning to complete. So I tried to source the Gladiator's fork assembly and fork legs(bottom) so that I can mount the calipers. But in vain.

Also please let me know if there is any disc adaptor needed while mounting the disc on the hub? Please enlighten me.

Can somebody help in showing some direction to get these parts in Chennai preferrably?

                      1. Fork Assembly and 'T' stem
                      2. Disc plate/calipers (I can check with local dealers)
                      3. hub adaptor (??? Is there anything like that to mount the disc)
                      4. Master cylinder and hose
                      5. Speedo worm set

sorry for this OT person here!

                        Hi Sriram!!

I have some questions regarding this oil as am very much new to Engine Oils and its types. Please bear with me.

                        1. Have you used this oil in you Glady? If yes, Is it good for City riding in Hot and Humid conditions? My usual riding speeds in city are 40-60 Km/h and i like to rip sometimes. I just want a smooth engine performance without any hiccups.

                        2. The recommended mineral oil viscosity for Glady is 20W40. Do you think fully synthetic 5W40 can be used without harming the clutch plates? I have heard that some fully synthetic oils are not suitable for bikes with wet clutch plates.

                        3. How much quantity of oil should be used if am changing to an all new fully synthetic oil?

                        4. Lastly, i am in chennai. If i consider to buy this oil, Where can i buy this genuine AGIP FULL SYNTH 5W40 in Chennai?

                        Please clarify!!

                        Thank You.

                        Regards,

                          Hi Emzee,
Pl. find my opinion and answers
I have some questions regarding this oil as am very much new to Engine Oils and its types. Please bear with me.

Answer: Mr.Madhav Krishna and Lobo are the two glady riders who have used this oil in their rides and are pretty satisfied with the performance. You may rewind this thread or hit random search of xbhp - yamaha gladiator section pages around 85-95 where this oil discussion happened.

                          2. The recommended mineral oil viscosity for Glady is 20W40. Do you think fully synthetic 5W40 can be used without harming the clutch plates? I have heard that some fully synthetic oils are not suitable for bikes with wet clutch plates.
Ans: I was told for Glady the ideal formula for the xxWyy value is "xx" can be lowest as low as 5 or 10 and "yy" can be upto "40" max. 50 is not recommended as it s thicker and not very suitable for glady in high speeds.

                          3. How much quantity of oil should be used if am changing to an all new fully synthetic oil?
Answer: i myself have a Mobil 1 full synth 942ml can and planning to buy a second can in order to switch to full synth during this service. As the sump quantity is 1.2L i think after a full drain the sump should be filled with 1200 ml of FS oil. Right now i am running on R15's SS oil.

                          4. Lastly, i am in chennai. If i consider to buy this oil, Where can i buy this genuine AGIP FULL SYNTH 5W40 in Chennai?

Ans: I could not find any AGIP dealers in the GP road area anywhere, so i bought a Mobil 1 FS oil which was just 942 ml. so i need one more of Mobil 1 now.
The Other alternative could be Motul 3000. But i have decided to set foot on Mobil 1 this time. A can costs whooping 750 bucks. Two cans will cost 1500.

Check the link for the details on the oil:

                          • Thanks for your opnions Sriram. Really appreciate it.
Btw 750/- for an oil is too much for me. I service the bike regularly every 2000 Kms. So am thinking whther to go with Mineral or Synthetic.

                            Thanks again.

                                Hello ppl,

Can somebody tell me what are the advantages of a Synthetic Oil over a Mineral Oil other than the "long oil change intervals" for Synthetic Oil?

                                Thanks.
