Mechanical failure happens to the best of us, so that's that. I'm just glad you're alright.

As for the chain, wasn't it lubed? If it was then what did you use?

I've ridden my CT100B for close to 8000kms on the GQ circuit in under 2 weeks, and used to lube my chain at the road side mechanics(read used engine oil) once every 2 days or so as I covered about 600~900kms per day.

The drive chain tends to be the part that's usually forgotten about, hope that's not the case.

Ride Safe,
A.P.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S

I was returning home from a long extreme monsoon trip. Had ridden over 2300 kms in torrential rains and super bad roads covering Hyderbad - Goa - Amoli - Satara - Mahabaleshwar - Pune - Rajmachi - lonavala - Khandala. On the way back to hyderabad from Pune, after covering 150 kms, my drive chain snapped while I was cruising at 100 kmph. The chain immediately locked the rear wheel and I went 150 meters sliding (fishtailing the rear wheel). I could manage to contersteer the slide enough to not crash. the bike came to a halt after 150 meters of sliding.

The damages were catastrophic. I had to get the bike toed on two different trolleys (chota haathi type / Ashok Leyland).

PS - The chain had done 24000 kms before this incident. The chain was making horrible noises in the last 200 kms before the mishap.

Petrol tank both panels + front fender + side black panels will cost approx 2500 max.

If you're using Yamalube 10w40 oil then it makes noise over 6.5k rpm. Have switched to Elf 10w50 fully synthetic, noise is bit reduced.
Hows the Elf FS oil performing.
Iam using Liquimoly FS oil.

Any improvement in gear shifts with the elf???

If possible post a video of your bikes engine sound.

I will talk with 'em on my final free service and let's see what they have to say about the issue, this time.

yeah you are right.. so called Japanese brand yamaha is not the same in India.. as we all know the condition of consumer laws in India.. every company knows the right of customers.. they would be better off paying a couple lakhs to customers in lost cases whose judgement will take years.. rather than investing huge money in r & d.. we made a mistake trusting yamaha.. but we won't make that mistake again in future
