I currently ride a Yamaha R15, I've had it for 3 yrs now.
I'm now looking for something more powerful. I was really excited about the 250s (Ninja and CBR) but honestly, they've both been disappointing for diff reasons. Also, I feel 250 isnt enough of a jump, hence a 600 being ideal.
Again, as with the Ninja 250, the 650 inspite of a relatively affordable price, it just doesnt do it for me, only looks wise, but ive heard that its a beauty to ride.
Next came the Hyosung GT650R, I checked it out in the showroom in gurgaon a couple of months ago, n I thought it was decent (only cause I was fantasising about the Yam R6 and Honda CBR600RR)
I test drove this beast day before ('beast' since it looks n feels bigger than a 600) in lajpat nagar (Ive heard a lot of positives)
The pick up blew me away.

And even though, my preference still is the R6 and the CBR600, i'm aware that its a pain either importing it myself or buying it off someone.
So the easy way out is either the Ninja 650 or the GT650R.
I wont get a test drive of the Ninja till dec since they're overbooked n all.
As for the GT650R, I'm really impressed with the bike, thanks to the price (assuming that if n when the Japs enter the market, their 600s will be priced much higher)
Also the service and professionalism (of the lajpat nagar showroom)
But after thoroughly going through the thread and reading up on owners' experiences, the bike seems to have a lot of problems n niggles, like the vibes (seems 2 much even for a v twin), the hard gear shifts etc

Guys, my knowledge is embarrassingly limited when it comes to a future purchase of a 600cc bike..

Im sorry for the lengthy post, but I needed to get my story straight

Please advise, any information is appreciated
The service by gurgaon was pathetic as experienced by one of the GTowner here, but i've heard that the one in delhi is way good than that.I don't think that R6 or 600RR gonna launch soon & if launched thats gonna be priced somewhere around 7-8 lacs. for sure.Finding a second hand R6 or 600RR is quite a pain.Few GT650R owners are using it for everyday commuting as well.Vibes & hard gear shifts problem was rectified as reported by most of the GT owners here.
    Good luck,RIDE SAFE.

thanks, budget isnt an issue though, but what do u guys suggest? like is the hyosung or ninja worth it? even though im looking for a bike after 3 yrs on the R15..my plan is to stick with whatever 600 i get for at least 4-5 years..so i wanna make sure if 1) its gonna last that much (assuming im a guy who does respect n take care of his machine) n 2) im not gonna ride it as much as my R15, its mostly gonna be weekend rides on the highway

i dont mind waiting another couple of months or so..but there seems to be no sign of the Japs entering the market, I mean I can wait till the Auto Expo which is in Jan, but there's no guarantee that I'll get a dependable n reliable timeframe, as to when they'll launch the 600s in India
I'm aware of the ban of import of bikes upto 800cc, hence they'll have to be assembled in India right? Please correct me if I'm inaccurate

so i dont wanna waste time..I'm sure u guys understand the anxiety that comes with the wait of getting a new, more powerful bike
I remember I had to wait 4 a week 4 my R15 and its been THE LONGEST WEEK EVER!!

Ideally, I'd like to decide and be sure by end nov/early dec..
Not sure how I should go about it..
      Suggestions plz...

But now as my car is out of action for a month, after an accident while driving back from Hyderabad last saturday, I guess, I will be riding the GT more than I did in last 2 months.

I am planning to stick to the oil that Garware guys recommend for the first service. anything major that I need to take care of during the first service ? had no problems as such with the bike so far otherwise.

          Cheers
          Got the bike serviced yesterday..

          I was charged for Oil (2447/-) + Chain Lubricant (276/-) = Total bill 2723/-

Garwae guys told me that they are using Castrol Synthetic Oil, when I asked Semi or Full, they had no answer.

Gear shift was not very smooth on the bike for last few KMs, I told this to service guys, but while coming back after service, I did not notice much of change.. still Gear 2-> 3 is kind of having a play in the gear lever.. will have to take the bike back to service center next weekend again for that..

Any advice on the Chain cleaner and lubricant to use and how to lubricate the chain without the Paddock stand ? has anyone bought a paddock stand btw ?

          Cheers

Bro... even I waited for an Year for my dream R6... Since there is no sign of bringing it Indian market bought the GT650 which is an amazing machine and good one for the beginner. Even though its heavy you will get to know the handling of an SBK. The riding position is simply amazing. Initially you might get neck pain but once you used to it you feel like flying. It gives an amazing mileage of 20+. As Mel said, it has its own pro's and con's.

Yes, Ninja 650R is a prefect tourer with great comfort and Japanese smoothness and economic too. You get more service centers for N650R than the GT.

If u are looking for a sporty, sexy, attractive and a men machine -- no doubt u can for GT.
If u r looking for Classy, comfortable and proper touring machine, thumbs up to N650R.
People look for mileage... But I choose Mile Age

thanks for the tip, im going for a proper test drive this weekend
went for a test drive last week, mid-day, in lajpat nagar, so barely got to ride the bike
i want to find out how the bike handles, if i can flick it as naturally as i did on my R15, looking forward to it because, the ride really felt good, however shortlived it was.

Nope.. i dont have an R6.. I couldn't find the one with legal papers so I bought GT650R. Its very difficult to find a clean 600cc bike apart from GT650R and N650R.

Its very simple... when I'm ready to invest 5-6 L on a bike, I don't want to hide the bike in a garage or fren's farm house or ride only at night and before the sunrise.

                        Patty,

have you managed to get your bike serviced yet. i have not gone through the posts so i am not sure if you have. The callipers of the front disc in my 250 are conked out which means i need to get it replaced. this is something the SC guys didnt notice. just a heads up. also, if you are going to the SC can you check with tehm if they have the front callipers for the 650 and how much it would be...

                        Cheers,

                        V

Am from new delhi, have had the GT for 2 months and 1500 kms. Got the bike from their gurgaon showroom but would never visit them for service.

I think you being in Delhi should go for a TD and a deal from Delhi sbks, lajpat nagar. Absolutely brilliant staff, very eager to help, youngsters who are full of enthusiasm, yet to try their workshop service as its not yet open but they did the special way of asking me to come to their showroom, calling their mechanic and setting everything right even though i got the bike from some one else.

The gurgaon dealers are average sales wise but service is pathetic, they are thick skinned and not willing to help - they will take you for granted and treat you like a 100cc owner.
Garware have been helpful till now but the gurgaon svc overpowers that as well - they dont listen to anybody - every one has the same opinion, terrible staff.

All the best brother, say Rajat said a Hii to the delhi sbks guy when you go, they remember me as the white gt650r owner
